First Scan

Post by Michelle »

Hi Girls
I had my first scan today at just over 6 weeks and it did not show us what we hoped it would. They saw one sac but said that I have a tilted uterus and because of this the one sac was positioned far back and extremely hard to see and they couldn't see clearly enough what was inside. They said this isn't a good OR bad thing at this stage - and I am to go back next Tuesday for another scan. Next Tuesday I will be 7 and a half weeks and they expect to see something then and if they don't they will be extremely concerned. DH is being dead positive and saying that it will all be fine - I'm not so sure. I really want to be positive (obviously!)but can't bear the thought that after a positive result it may go wrong.
I can't believe the timing of this - the wait will be excrutiating. I so wanted to just enjoy Xmas knowing that all was well and now it just seems that yet again we have to play the waiting game. Don't mean to sound so negative, especially on Christmas Eve, but don't know what to think. DH keeps on saying PMA - positive mental attitude - I'm going to try.
Sending you love and a very Happy Christmas.
Michelle xxxxx
Hi Michelle,

I'm so sorry that you've had such a set back.

After my experience, I can assure you that they saw nothing in my case, so that is something positive - you can be sure it is not ectopic.

Did they only do an internal scan? If so, phone them to see if you can go for an external scan sooner (you'll need to have a full bladder). Or contact your local EPU to see if they are open.

I will be praying for you and keeping everything crossed. I know it's hard, but try to keep strong and positive - like Beck says, it is early days yet.

Lots of Love Fiona xxxxx

Hi Becks and Fiona
Thank so much for your words of encouragement. I'm feeling better about things now and just dying for Tuesday to arrive. Christmas was actually lovely and as we were so busy I didn't have time to think and yesterday we had family over for a late lunch so another busy day. Today we have just lazed around, eaten for England and are beginning to look like Turkeys!
It is very confusing trying not to analyse every sympton. My boobs don't feel nearly as sore and I don't seem to be weeing as much. But yesterday I didn't feel at all hungry or thirsty and at about 1.30pm I felt a complete wave a nausea and was a little sick in the toilet - which I've never done before. So as you can imagine I'm driving myself nuts with the symptons...would I be throwing up if there was no baby inside the sac? why aren't I peeing more and I want my boobs to hurt?!!!
Fi, the doctor said that the best thing to do is give the baby another week to develop and that there is no point having a scan before then. Would they be able to tell more from an external scan?
I hope that you both had a lovely Christmas.
Love, Michelle xxx

Michelle,

we were on down reg drugs to start a cycle of IVF and i didn't have a down reg bleed, they did an internal scan on 23rd December and I'm pregnant!

With me , same as you, all they could see was a sac and nothing inside! Told us to go away and come back in 2 weeks on 3rd January. So we too are waiting - only a little longer! They think i was about 6 weeks at last sacn so will hopefully be nearly 8 weeks at this next scan. Had IVF last summer and got pregnant but 8 week scan showed no heartbeat & I had to have a D&C.

Am absolutley beside myself with this dreadful wait! Only 5 more days to go. Will be thinking about you - and will look forward to hearing how you get on!

Fingers crossed
Love
Eve
xxx

Hi Eve
I'm sorry you are going through the same stressful wait as me. I go for my scan on Tuesday - which can't come soon enough. At least if it is bad news I would rather know sooner. My feelings keep changing from positive to negative. Are you having any symptons? I am which makes me think that things will be ok - but the dr. said that symptons don't mean a thing either way. I'm just driving myself nuts.
Good luck for Jan 3rd - will be thinking of you and praying that we both see a little heartbeat.
Love, Michelle
p.s. Beck - thanks!

Hi Michelle,

Posted the last message too soon. Was meant to add this, but you'd replied before I could edit it:

The external scan shows things from different angles, so it may be a clearer view of the sac. The only thing is you need a full bladder for an external and an empty one for an internal - why not ring them to ask if they'd do an external one 1st so you can go prepared with a full bladder - better than having to throw loads of water down yourself if they suggest it at the last minute (been there, done that and the wait was horrible)

Fancy chatting a while - shouldn't really, I'm at work, but what the hell - its Christmas!!!

Lots of Love Fiona xxx
