Returning member - IVF

Post by Sharajade »

Hi there,
I have posted before but it was quite a while ago now.
I am returning to post as have just undergone my second (and last funded) IVF cycle. Had egg collection on 4th June 2007 and after the last time where we only got one egg, this time was amazing - I had 19 eggs!
Nearly fell off the bed and it took me 2 days to believe they were reading the correct file. Anyway, 12 survived and fertilised, and hospital frozen 6 and left 6 in culture and transferred the best 2 embryos on 6th June 2007.

So, I am almost a week into the 2 week wait and although I am surprisingly a lot more relaxed about things because this time around we have a good backup plan on the eggs - Call me Eggzilla! lol - things just seemed to go better this time around. Transfer was alot smoother.... last time it took 1.45 hours and I was sore as hell!! Egg collection seemed better this time around too.

I know that won't be any indication of whether this will be successful round or not, but I am just thankful it wasn't as bad as my first IVF go and then to only come out with one egg.

Wondered if there was anyone out there who can give me a bit of moral support and if anyone else is around the same point as me in treatment/cycles.

We have had so much bad luck in the past and endured a HSG, surgery, ovarian drilling, clomid resistance, and so many injections, and a few heartaches along the way. Hoping for some luck for a change this time around.

Would be nice to hear from anyone who is at the same stage - so I know that I am not alone here.

Wishing everyone great things.

Shara xx

Hi there,
Great!! Its lovely to find someone with the same ER date.... The 2 week wait is the most horrendous time normally, but I am quite relaxed this time around - surprising for me because usually I worry about worrying!!!

Yes, it will be my first child - we have been trying (including before IVF) for over 9 years now.

The IVF Hospital I attend doesn't do bloodtests unless you need them, instead I just have to do a pregnancy test and see what it shows me and let them know the result. Then I think if it's a BFP they scan me 3 weeks from the date of the BFP to see how many embryo's are there and their position etc.

I am on Progresterone pessaries twice daily at the minute prescribed by the Specialist/Consultant so that's all I am taking.

Seem to have been having headaches since last week, and also even though I have an awful insomniac-sleep-pattern usually, have been so tired I have been falling asleep at 9pm and then for some reason keep waking up between 4 and 5am!! Not good when you are working full time.

Keep me posted as to how you get on. It would be nice to find out.

Love, Shara xx

Shara

I too had my transfer of two embies on June 6th. I go for my BETA on 6-20 and I am chewing my nails off. This is my first IVF (ICSI) after no birth control for 10 years. Originally thought it was my problem since I am DES and my mother had 6 miscarriages before me. But found out it was my DH -male factor. The meds were a cinch for me since I am a nurse, and had no side effects. The egg retrieval however post-op was not. Developed slight infection and had to go on antibiotics. I have to finish the treatment and hope that it doesn't effect the outcome of a possible pregnancy. The transfer was uncomfortable since I actively had an infection, but they did the transfer because my infection wasn't diagnosised until the day after my transfer- (became feverish). So now I am back to work trying not to drive myself insane waiting for the 20th. I find it uncomfortable using the proges. supps since they melt and kinda get messy, but I'd rather the supps than the IM injections. The only symptoms I feel now are minor cramps in the lower abdomen and sore breasts. Hopefully related to possible implantation and not AF. My biggest fear is m/c. Which I'm sure is on everyones mind.

Congrats on your egg retrieval!!!! and six frosties! Lucky you! But after what you've been through you deserve it!!!! I had 11 eggs retrieved, 7 were mature and only 3 fertilized. But this support forum has taught me that its not the quantity but the quality (and a little luck I guess) But I would definetly feel more relieved with 6 frosties for back up. You go girl!

Keep me posted on your BETA. Your probably around the same time as me. I'm praying for you and all women who have to go through what we have to.

Hi Tracey,
Congratulations on your ET. Sorry to hear you had the infection and that transfer wasn't wonderful for you. Hopefully the antibio's will shift that for you. Its nice that a few people are around the same time as me, and that this forum was a good support for me last time around. I am trying not to get too caught up in hoping, just getting on with normal daily routine working full time and seeming to be sleeping a lot more lately. I have had a kind of permanent headache since last week.... comes and goes...but isn't a really bad one. Also sore boobs (think that's the progestorone side effect though) and some cramping pains .. which I am hoping all add up to good things. Wishing you good things for the 20th!!
Definitely keep me posted ... it would be fab if we both had good news.

Love, Shara xx
