breast pump coverage

Post by deepa100 »

Hi all,
I am due this month (24th) and new to this side. I just called my insurance company and they said they do not cover breast pumps or rentals. What gives? Is this normal in the US now?

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield (also in the US) and they covered the purchase of a hospital grade double electric pump. I had to purchase it from a medical supply company. When I called the insurance company they couldn't give me a straight answer about whether it was covered. So I went to the medical supply company and they instantly knew that BCBS covered it and what kind they covered....they made a quick phone call to confirm it and I walked out with one about 5 minutes later. Did you try calling a medical supply company just to be sure or ask them for advice? You might try that.

Thanks, I will check with the medical supplies. It has been kinda' weird w/ my ins. lately. Almost everything I called them about- they are telling me it is not covered. I asked about a dietician (I am a vegetarian w/ Gestational Diabetes), doula service after c-section among other things. I am gonna' call about circumcision and see what they say.
