For those trying to decide on a name for your new arrival (or names for those of you in the twin club like me!) I thought this article might be of interest:
Jack and Emily are the most popular
baby names, according to official
figures released today.
It is the ninth year in a row that
Jack has topped the favourite boys'
name list among new parents in England
and Wales.
But after seven years in the top spot,
Chloe dropped to third place behind
Emily and Ellie, the National
Statistics figures for 2003 reveal.
The biblical names Joshua, Thomas,
James and Daniel were popular with
parents of boys.
Old favourites such as Jessica and
Sophie were chosen for girls.
With a little help from the soap
EastEnders the name Alfie has shot up
31 places to number 18.
The arrival of Alfie Moon, the cheeky
landlord at The Queen Vic pub, a year
ago has perhaps helped boost the name's
popularity.
Other big breakthrough names are
Harrison up five places to 47, Archie
up five to 50, Harvey at 36 and Tyler
at 35. Freya was the highest new entry
among the girls at number 41. Isabel
jumped 12 places to 47, Aimee, up 16 to
49, and Ruby up 16 places to 50.
There were big increases in popularity
for Poppy and Daisy, the names chef
Jamie Oliver has given his daughters,
which came in at 42 and 31, and for
Isabella at 37th most popular girl's
name.
Up-and-coming names include Kian at
56, Spencer at 89, Logan at 88 and Noah
at 91.
A move towards more unusual monickers
for girls has made Tia, at 53, Libby at
58, Evie at 61, Eloise at 82 and Summer
at 84 names to watch out for.
Nadine, Honey, Tianna, Hermione, Kyla,
Chardonnay, Fleur, Halle, Jorja and
Sinead are also becoming more popular.
Among the boys Mackenzie, McKenzie,
Flynn, Tyrese, Malachi, Malachy, Roman,
Ashton, Camron, Ned and Xander are also
becoming more popular, along with the
name Jonny - presumably since the rugby
World Cup.
If my dh had his way ours would be called Billy & Eddie (after Billy Bremner and Eddie Gray - Leeds Utd football players!) In fact, if it was left to him, they'd be named after the entire Leeds team of 1972 (when they last won something!) Fortunately I do have a say.........
I did read this in the paper Nikola and I showed great interest, don't you say about DH wanting Leeds United players names, I have the same problem with my DH but he wants Walsall FC names OMG
Well I'm afraid we're not very original 'cos both of our two have names from the Top 10 - Daniel and Charlotte - and Charlotte's middle name is the number 1, Emily.
But I did give Daniel his middle name because I'm a big rugby fan and wanted to call him after one of my favourite players. So he's Daniel Zinzan, after the New Zealand player Zinzan Brooke.
Yours are really lovely names. My grandma was called Emily and so its always been one of my favourites. We were thinking of Amelia which has the same origins as Emily!
I love Zinzan - how unique is that! I did think of letting dh pick one of the middle names, but our first choice for a boy is freddie, so he could end up being called Freddie Eddie - how chuffing stupid would that be!!!
Right I'm making myself laugh now (it must be the hormones!!)

for goodness sake don't dare her - she would - I know Nik.
Do you have the article to post me Nik - you know what I am like for being anal?
Love to you both

I emailed it to you as soon as I got it - thought you might need help now you need to think of TWO names!
Its lovely to see you back on the board and the old humour flooding out! I know I talk to you all the time, but your silliness has been missed on these boards! They've had to put up with me and I'm not nearly half as funny - just a bit stupid! I don't have any singing knickers (just a few very large pairs at the moment!), I don't have any birch twigs and I don't get my heel caught in the drain in the middle of the street very often!!!
I'm pleased the sickness is easing off - 12 weeks will soon be here. If I was a statitician (can't even spell it!) you know the statistics of what happened with Oliver happening again is about a zillion, zillion to one (very large mathematical number!) Hang on in there - you can always pop round and see Chris' mum she'll look after you!
You take things easy - must talk soon about website etc.
I think Freddie Eddie is fab!!!! Go on do it, he may grow up and be a rapper or something tee hee
If we have a boy we will have Jack as the second name as it's my grandads name and he paid for this lot of treatment. We have chosen a first name but not telling anyone as David is supersticious. We can't decide on any girls names but I am convinced that it is a boy so am not too worried. If it is a girl we have talked about Katharine as we got married at St Katharine's church and Alexia as it's my second name.
It's strange to see my brothers name in the list - Xander. It was deemed a very unusual name 37 years ago, we have Buffy to thank for its popularity I suppose. My brother was less than happy when I told him his name was on a popular boys list of names.
If my name ever made it onto it I will eat my hat!!!!! I don't think it is even on a top list in Norway where it is from. No one can pronounce it and spell it when I say it. It's pronounced 'Dan-yee' if any one is interested.
I don't think my dh needs any encouraging with his Freddie Eddie ideas - I told him you all thought it was great. So he thinks it actually going to happen now!
I'm like you, if I ever see my name spelt the way I do on a list I too will share the eating of your hat!!
Don;t think Nik and DH need any encouragement - or at least DH with willy billy - I mean he is already going on about if it is a boy what a big todger he will have isn't he Nik? i think you are having one of each - any more thoughts folks?
Nik - did not get the email - I suppose I could be technical and print this thread and you are just as funny as me - sometimes funnier which is very annoying.
Dagny - wondered how you pronounced your name and I was right - just call me smarty pants - or smarty singing knickers - will that name make the top 10?
Love

Oh Tracey some of the things you come out with make me laugh, oh and by the way I got your email I do already have your number in my phone so I will keep you updated.
Tracey Sharp! I can't believe your wrote that my dh had said if its a boy he would have a big 'one'! What he actually said was if at the scan on Monday we decide not to ask what it is, if its a boy he is sure he will be able to tell because its bound to be a big one! Poor child is going to grow up with a complex. Perhaps two girls would be easier!
Sue - its nice to hear from you - I've been reading your updates on the other side! I don't think my dh needs any encouraging with silly names! Its his favourite subject at the moment. He keeps trying to think of the most hideous names just to annoy my mother!
He told her that he wanted to call her Agatha if it was a girl and my mum turned round and told him not to be so stupid and if he called her Agatha she would just call her something completely different! I leave them to it. I actually quite like Agatha.
My DH David keeps on about daft names too. He said if it's a boy Tarquin or Horatio would be good - Yeah right! I quite like Barnaby and as our surname is Barnett his nick name could be Barbar like the book about the elephant but David said he wouldn't want a son called Barnaby all the time he has a hole in his ar$e (sorry Marcus) and he suggests Tarquin, I ask you
It's just so hard deciding on a name. Up until before I got pg I had lots of possible fave names but now it actually matters it seems an impossible task and I only have one baby to name!
Hi Girls,
I'm really laughing at the 'Freddie' stuff. I love the name Freddie and considered it for a while (no chance said dh!). My granda was Fredierick, so when my mum comes on the phone she says 'how's Freddie'. I think she'll end up calling him that as a pet name regardless now...! I also loved Alfie - I think they're all friendly and solid names.
We've decided on Sam (Samuel) Ross Walker I think though.
