Baby b - Oh hun, I can only imagine your stress with the results! I am so happy that you have a healthy baby! Thank you so much for your post, it gives me incredible hope and more peace! I think you are referring to Gori, I sent her a PM to get more info too! Thanks!
kim I read about those results too and I really wish I had skipped the blood part of it, thank you!
Hoekey you are a sweetie - thank you for your prayers they mean a lot to me!

Thank you girls for being so wonderful, I am a lot calmer today and I strongly believe in my heart that this was another bogus blood test. They also found two cysts in my left ovary and said that was because of the fertility drugs.

My DH and the OB office are trying to get the full results from UCSF so that we can all meet and my Doc can give me his thoughts on this. I am trying to keep the PMA! :D We are still not sure if we are going for an amnio or not...

That's the way! Keep a positive attitude.

Are you against having an amnio done? I was a bit hesitant at first especially after I asked my doctor what are the risks and/or side effects. Then I had to bite my lower lip.

Of course, my doctor said that if it was against my religious faith, then we didn't need to go to see the genetic specialist.

It was kind of cool to watch my specialist do the amnio. You're watching it on the screen the whole time. So he/she can see exactly where the needle is going and not harming the baby.

I only had discomfort with the needle going in. And that the only thing I had post procedure. My DH came w/ me. He was very supportive throughout the whole thing from when he found out the results of the blood test to the amnio and its results.

Good luck and keep thinking positive!

tryw8- I am not against amnio in any way, in fact I go back and forth on wanting to do it, my reservation is the small risk of miscarriage.

Quick update: I went to my OB today and he was awesome. He said that he really didn't see a reason to be concerned right now. He said my papp-a levels were low but not that low where I should be concerned about fetal development. He said that with constant u/s to monitor and more testing that everything should be fine, he recommended u/s weekly after 28 weeks. He said we would also monitor for pre-eclampsia. He is ordering an expanded AFP at 16 weeks, then at 19 weeks we have a level 2 ultrasound to look for Down markers, he said that after the AFP results and u/s we can elect to do an amnio. I feel much better today and he listened to the HB. He said everything loks so great with the baby that I shouldn't be concerned and that the risk is still very small.

Thank you so much for your wonderful support - I copied your posts and sent to DH and my mom and they were overwhelmed with what a wonderful group of women you are!

Hi

Post by gori »

Hi Riogirl, I sent you a couple of PM's. As you know I am 35 & my risks came back as 1 in 46 [due to HIGH HCG]. 1 in 46 certainly is considered high, given my age! So, I decided to do the amnio. My amnio results were fine [touchwood]. It's now been 3 weeks since I did amnio, so far so good. There are different view points on amnio & the final decision is yours. I decided to do it for my peace of mind. Risks with amnio are not as high as they seem but then, it may not be necessary & worth the risk in some cases. I know the decision is hard. And waiting is the worst part. Having gone thru it, I feel your pain. But I can give you some positive news as mine has been going good, so far [touchwood!!]. I am 19 weeks now. My Best wishes & prayers are with you in whatever you decide to do.

Hi Riogirl, I just saw your most recent post. I agree with your doctor. Your risks certainly do not seem high at all. With all the continuous monitoring & testing, you will be getting more & more comfortable, I am sure. Good Luck again.

I just wanted to post good news after this rollercoaster. My AFP results came back and although I didn't get any numbers, the assistant called UCSF and she used the words "negative" and "fantastic" so I am very relieved!!!! :D Now we have level 2 u/s on May 21st and see what happens, hopefully there will be no soft markers and we can skip the amnio. THANK you so much for all of your prayers and well wishes, you girls are the best support group ever!
