First IVF cycle !!

Post by sun999 »

Hello everyone !

I have been taking lupron 10 units since 4 days.. so far so good..still long way to go. Doc suggested IVF with ICSI. I (27 yrs old)have been diagnosed with tubal disease(1 tube blocked, 1 tube open but unhealthy) and my husband(34 yrs old) with low morphology and low count. Motility improved after taking Vitamin C for a couple of months...

Insurance company denied ART request in the beginning and so went for an appeal and finally approved for IVF but denied ICSI. It is a very long story..ttc since 2 yrs..been married for almost 6 yrs... devastated to know about our options to have a baby. Of course, now got over depression and looking forward for better results from IVF.. I would greatly appreciate any kind of info and support from u all.. as it my first IVF cycle .. ..

Thanx in advance !

Hi Sun999

Like Traci has said you have come to the right place. You will get so much help and support from people in the same or similar boat as you. Any questions you have, don't hesitate to ask.

I too had tubal damage after a routine op 15 years ago. I had to have them both removed and after 3 attempts I am now 21 weeks pg this week. It is hard when you are first told that your only chance of having a baby is IVF but the whole process has moved forward considerably over the years and it is becoming more and more successful.

Just remember to try and be positive and if there is anything you want to know - just ask.

Good luck

hihi , sorry to hear that u have to join us girls on the road down ivf,
at first it seems quite frightening and yes it can be stressful, but i find
if u can share any of your uncertainties/problems it realy does help.
You only have to read all the posts to find positive and encouraging
stories which i think is a great help.
You mentioned your husband is taking vitamin c, my partner
had a low count as he was taking warphrin at the time, and the
clinic advised him to take "Zinc-ace" (also has vitamin A) the zinc
helps the reproductive system and it certainly improved his count.
You mentioned your insurance co. will now pay for IVF but not ICSI
so does that mean u will just have to pay the difference.
As the other girls said if u have any questions pls ask.
take care

Thanx a lot for ur responses !

Hi all !

Thanx a lot for ur responses. It is a bit comforting to know that we r not ALONE. I will be having a suppression check on Feb 9th after 12 days of lupron. I think I will be given further instructions about Gonal and Repronex after that. I am very much scared about those injections as my doc says I have a high risk for OHSS(under 30 yrs of age). Any thoughts on OHSS....???? Hope everything goes well .. I never thought getting pregnant would be this tough but who knows God must be having better plans for all of us. HE knows that we can take this challenge and come out with flying colours.. just testing our faith and patience I guess... That is how, I console myself and regain the confidence.

Yes, we r paying the difference for ICSI . But, we r re -appealing and if the insurance company approves for ICSI then we will be reimbursed by the fertility center. Thanx so much for the info about Zinc ace.. will let my husband know. I wish u all good luck .

Would greatly appreciate any replies & info on OHSS...

Thanx again !!

Hey Sun,
As the girls have said, welcome to the site, you'll find the women here incredibly supportive.
I had OHSS after my first IVF cycle, I ended up in hospital with pain initially, then started fainting and dehydrated, I needed catheterisation. I'm 31, my good friend (pregnant after IVF) got OHSS so badly she ended up in an intensive care unit, this is very very rare though. A number of us on this site have experienced OHSS, the symptoms aren't fun and are fairly easily identified. For me, as I said, was fainting, pain, dehydration and abdominal swelling (I looked nine months pregnant). As this is your first cycle, most doctors are fairly conservative with the follice stimulating drugs, they're not sure how your body will react so they under rather than overestimate the dose, certainly that was the case with me. My OHSS was evidently quite mild. My clinic advised drinking lots of water whilst on the injections and then after EC, this will probably help!
All the best sun, look forward to hearing of your success!

Hello

I had OHSS on all 3 of my treatments. I was 33. The first one put me in hospital for 2 weeks after ET and was catheterised, on oxygen, stomach drain, morphine pump on 5 min intervals and saline drip, quite a disaster really. My tummy was so bloated I looked ready to pop!

BUT.........

If you are at risk then you will be monitored really closely all the way through your treatment so that it doesn't happen like it did for me. I was monitored on the next 2 of my treatments and although I did hyperstimulate each time it was controlled. The last one was a bit iffy but it was because I was PG and my hormones went doo lally!!

If they are aware of potential OHSS people it should be fine. They will put you on a lower dose of stimms. I was on 250 Puregon and they dropped it to 200 Puregon and I always ended up with approx 30 follicles each time.

You MUST drink water like a fish all the time as this is one of the best preventions for OHSS and rest lots. I hope you get your insurance company to pay for the ICSI.

Good Luck

Love Dagny xx

Hi all !

Thanx a lot for all the info. I hope they monitor me closely... I am very much scared of the hyperstimulation. I work full time and hope I will be able to rest at that time.. I usually drink 2 Liters of water and hope 3 liters per day would help ????
Hope everything will be ok with me...

Thanx again for the info..
