I had my follow up at the hospital this morning and thankfully the test results came back clear so the m/c was "just one of those things".
The consultant suggested using progesterone injections rather than pessaries next time as this might prevent m/c. Has anyone else heard of this? Also, because they are intra-muscular rather than subcutaneous (sp?) do they hurt more than the stim injections? And where do they recommend you inject?
This is not good news for someone with an needle phobia!! But needs must.......
Hope you're all ok

cant help with questions but wanted to say I am glad that your results came back clear....
"one of those things" is always such a frustrating phrase but it seems that it is also a very common phrase with ivf....
take care
are you doing a cycle at the mo? or starting soon?
I am relieved that there wasn't a bad reason for your M/C.
I had to inject progesterone in my first IVF and I won't lie about it. I know you have a needle phobia but I have to be honest as to what you should expect. The needle you have to use is the big one you normally use to draw up with As it has to be intra-muscular it has to go deeper and the small needles don't go deep enough. The actual stuff you have to inject is like an oil as well which makes it really hard to push the syringe down. I was so nervous when I had to do it as I had always used the injector pen and you can't use it to inject the progesterone. Once you have done it once it is fine and putting the needle manually into your leg or tummy is like a hot knife through butter and it doesn't hurt. Believe me. I decided after that and for my next 2 treatments not to use the injector pen at all for any of my injections as I found I didn't bruise so much. It is just the needle size that freaked me out.
hi dolly, it's really good that you've got an all clear.
i've heard about the progesterone injections, not quite as grapically as dagny's just explained! dagny, proud of you girl for doing it! i was lucky enough to just use high dose pessaries for 12 wks.
dolly as you say, when needs must we do almost anything. sounds as though you're thinking about another cycle?
I'm happy to hear that you got the all clear with the m/c.
I also have a needle phobia and I'm proof that we can all manage it. I am on day 11 of the 2ww and every other day DH has been injecting me in the bum, a different cheek every other day. NICE!!! But I promise you, like Dagny says, after the first time it really is no big deal.
This is my 3rd attempt at IVF and previously I have used the pessaries, but this time they said I should try the injections as they have had a very slightly improved success rate - why the bloody hell they didn't tell me that before I'll never know!
If I get a positive on Friday (PMA PMA PMA) I will continue with the injections up until 8 weeks. I'm also taking 75mg of Aspirin this time.
When are you starting your next tmt?
Love, Michelle x
Our darling son Jake was born in October 2004 on our 3rd IVF attempt. I have PCOS. We're now trying again naturally, before embarking on our next FET IVF possibly late 2005... so watch this space!!!
Just to add to the advice of the others. Make sure and put an ice cube on the area you are going to inject, it numbs it and you won't even feel it. It also helps relieve swelling and bruises! I had prog inj for 12 full weeks after my ET. A baby is about the ONLY thing I would do that for!!! Good Luck!
Thanks a lot for your replies. I am still feeling very apprehensive about the injections - we use an autoinjector for stims so DH will have to go for injection lessons! But we all go through so much and I know that I will get through it.
I still have to wait for one more AF before they will let me start again so hopefully I will start sniffing at the beginning of March.
Michelle, Good luck for your test on Friday - sending you bags of baby dust. Fingers crossed all those extra injections you have had to persevere will have done the trick!!
Love to everyone
