2 Weeks of Waiting after ICSI

Post by Aida80 »

:x
Dear Ladies,

Please give me feedback on how to keep maself occupied in these two horrible weeks of waiting between egg transfer and Beta HCG check.

When to expect getting my periods ( God Forbids) Is it after the blood test or before?

This is my first ICSI cycle due to low sperm count and healthy me. Doc retreived 8 eggs and ICSI'ed 7.

4 eggs were grade 1 and 3 eggs were grade 2. Three were retured to be and the grade 2 eggs were not candidates for freezing.

I wonder why many ppl in the forum talk about 5 days transfer, surprisingly, mine was only 48 hours between retrieval and return

I did not transfer on 5th of Jan 2009 and I got 10 more days to go.. when to expect a positive serum result........................ I'm SOOO anxious!! :(

Honestly, I never found a way not to suffer while waiting. It was impossible for me, but my best suggestion is movies and trashy romance novels!

Well the doctor told me don't think about it...

That is not possible becuase I took a leave from work for 3 weeks (I'm a nurse). :?

Of course I try to use diversion such as TV , reading and cooking. But each time I put the progesterone pessary twice daily , it reminds me...

By the way the doctor told me that if it won't work, I got NO right to cry... I felt bad. But is there anybody on earth who got no right to cry?

Aida... First, good luck to you for a BFP!!! I haven't figured out how to make the 2WW go by any faster. I ended up watching a lot of movies, surfed the Internet, and went out with family or friends, but it was always on my mind.

As for the 5dt question, some REs will wait for the embryos to grow 5 days in the lab and then transfer it into the uterus. My clinic will only wait it out to 5 days if we have 15 or more embryos to work with. Their reasoning is the longer you wait, the more likelihood a lot of the embryos will not survive outside the uterus. For instance, I had 17 embryos on Day 3, but by Day 5, I only had 6 that were still growing. Everyone one is different. If you could choose which day to transfer, some people believe a 5dt is better b/c it's more mature and has a better rate of implantation. However, there are many women who have done 3 (or 2) day transfers and have been successful. And some people believe it's better to put the embryo in the uterus sooner b/c that is the best "incubator" for it. So there is a lot of argument as to which is better. Hope this helps.

And I can't believe your doctor said you don't have a right to cry. How horrible! He must not understand what we go through emotionally and mentally during the 2 WW. It's definitely okay to feel what you're feeling at any moment. I've cried many, many times during this process, but it's having hope that this will work for me that keeps me going.

Good luck to you!!!

i had a 3 day transfer 2x and resulted in 2 bfp's so try not to stress so much and keep positive thoughts flowing. As far as your dr. is concerned i bet he is a man that said it.... the heck with your re, let it out. i cried over not wanting to take another stim shot the first time and my re looked at me like i was crazy but you know what? it made me feel a lot better after my cry! you are allowed, with all these hormones we are taking it is only natural to be overly emotional..... GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BFP!!!! will you test at home?

Post by Aida80 »

Thanks to all..

What I wonder is, after 2 weeks of embryo transfer, is it possible to appear in urine or only blood test is confirmative?

When to expect a period if ever?

Wow your clinic actually gave your dh a shot of coffee? Inetersting- I had read an article that said that men who drank coffee and then ttc about an hour to two after have a higher chance of conceiving. That is really intereting to see a clinic use it as a protocol! Congratulations and good luck on your transfer. Make sure to relax on your 2ww!
Aida- when is your beta scheduled? Sending you lots of sticky vibes!

Aida80 - All clinics are different when they do the beta test. If you did your beta 9 dp 3dt (9days past 3 day transfer), then you would only be on day 12 which might be early. My clinic usually has us do Betas on day 14 but only as long as day 14 is not on a weekend. They don't do betas on weekends. As far as getting your period if it doesn't work. Some women do bleed before their beta. Other women don't get AF till after stopping the progestrone supplements. It is really confusing because also women sometime get implantation bleeding which can be confused with AF. So don't read too much into how your body is reacting. Also, the progestrone supplements will mimic both pregnancy symptons and AF symptons. This is why the 2ww suck so much. You can do a home pregnancy test but I would wait till a few day before your beta, and also keep in mind that if you get a negative that there is still hope. A lot of women that have gotten a negative with HPT on the day of their beta and still end up PG. Hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Well Thanx Chris,,

I think this time I will spend the time with my family and parents and hope days will go by fast....

I remeber getting a mild period when I got pregnant once last year (without IVF), the urine test came back positive. But unfortunately, it ended up in missed abortion on week 7. that time i did not get my periods again until 4 weeks afte the DC. Doc told me it was becuase of the progesterone supplements.

I'll Wait and See :P
