Time for me to register. Help!

Post by liz35 »

I'm having twin boys and my shower is on March 21st.
My daughter is now 8 so all of the products are soooo different.
I need to register for swing, bouncy seat, bottles, car seats, stroller, etc.

Could ya'll pass along your favorite products that you couldn't live without.
Also, let me know buying 2 of something is a waste of money or simply a must.

There may be a thread for this. I just haven't seen one. I think this will be so helpful for so many.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Liz, My name is also Liz and I am also having twin boys AND I also have a daughter who's older. She's 10 though. How funny that our situations are so close...Any way,

I just had my shower 8 days ago and while I can't give you any advice on what products are can't live with out or what you'll need two of or not just yet as my boys are still in the oven, I can tell you this much; if you register at babies r' us, no matter what you do, make sure EVERYTHING you register for is still going to be on the shelves when the time comes for people to buy your gifts.

I cannot tell you how much trouble I had with people not being able to find this that or the other because it was being discontinued by babies r' us.

Everything from the baby books to the swings to the high chairs to the car seats, people would call me and say "they discontinued it, what should we do?" Or "They discontinued the pattern, what shoud we do?"

Almost every one had this problem and it was so frustrating. I can't tell you how many times I had to change the registry to fit the stores problem and in the end I wound up with 4 high chairs because my step mom bought me a set but then other people found the ones that were "Discontinued" at another store because they where left over and the same thing happened with the car seats and the a few other things....UGHHH!!!

And to top the whole thing off, babies r' us just sent me a whole list of things that where left on the registry that are about to be discontinued so I better hurry up and come get them!!

So frustrating. And I didn't register forever ago either. Just beware of this and save yourself the headach and everything you scan no matter where you go ask if how long it's going to be available.

Thank you for the advice SilverAngel. I am about to go register. I've been putting it off because it's not part of my culture, therefore I'm having a hard time with it, but people have been pushing me to do it, so I'm finally going this week before our shower (about 4 weeks away). I'll keep your advice in mind. I'll probably end up at Target.

Liz--I started a thread a while ago, slightly different but it might be helpful to you as well. It's related to baby essentials, sustainability and affordability. People provided great feedback in there. I'm going to bump it up so you can read it if you're interested.

Here was what I loved and could not live w/o for my twins!

2 cribs~ I did inexpensive ones because I had no intention of having both my kids have double beds in their room one day.
1 swing
1 bouncy chair~ I did the Newborn to Toddler rocker and they still love it!
1 play gym
2 car seats~ I loved my Britax companion ones
1 snap-n-go stroller! MUST HAVE!!!!!
1 BOB jogger stroller~ Worth every penny!!!
1 pack-n-play (although we now have two for all our travels so they both have an away bed)
2 high chairs~ I love my Eddie Bauer wood ones. They clean easily and look great at a great price.
1 tub
1 sponge bath matt
1 baby bjorn
1 sling
1 double nursing pillow~ A MUST have if you are planning on nursing!

Also, I returned any and all things I didn't want or need in order to get what I knew I wanted to use. I just simply didn't have the space for stuff I didn't plan on using. For instance, I did not buy a diaper genie but people thought I needed one. I simply put my diapers outside our back door in a trash bucket jsut for them because I didn't want them in the house at all. I know people really want to give you something you will use so I didn't worry about taking things back. Also, I got about 100 onesies at my shower so back most of them went in exchange for things I needed. Hand me downs are also a God send!

Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

Not yet! we've gone through a few but we haven't come up with THE one yet. Both dh and I are of African descent, therefore, we've settled on a few African names that reflect our experience trying to conceive this little one (i.e. hope, beloved, patience, long waited for). Now we just need to continue narrowing the list until we are down with THE one ;)

I love African and Hawaiian names. They're so exotic. Can't wait to see what you pick!!

Well I am along the lines of Kholtan. I will say do not waste money on a diaper genie. They are great for when they are young but as the diapers get bigger you change the dang thing all the time and the bags are money. With twins save money where you can I say! But if you can, put a garbage can in the garage and put the poopies in there. We put the tinkle ones inside and it does not stink it up at all. But poopies...yeah, get those outside!

2 cribs...I did not do bassinets. They were straight to the crib when they bot home.

1 swing
1 play gym
1 play mat
1 bouncy that vibrates...I would say maybe two of these as they do come in handy when you start to feed and they can not sit up in a highchair yet.
2 highchairs. I have Graco Wooden ones. Mine can not sit in there yet. We are still in the bouncy/bumbo eating
Snap and Go stroller....MUST have I agree!
2 car seats...I did graco for the stroller but I will get Britax when they can go forwards.
2 pack and plays
1 tub
bottles if you are not bfing. I have 14 so I have enough to get through the day with the girls (They eat every three hours, minus at night)
I love Dr. Browns even though they are a pain to clean.
diapers...ask for lots of different sizes
bed sheets. If they spit up have at least one extra for both cribs so you can change them real fast.
A mattress protector that goes over the mattress and zips up around it. They do not come off as easy when you change the sheets.

If I think of more I will let you know! Do not get bumper pads as they increase SIDS and are just there for decoration anyways.
Me: 25 PCOS, BFP 1st time with twin girls!
