Paint Safety

Post by siouxsie »

We’re moving and my husband is painting the new apartment with “No VOC” paint (Olympic from Lowe’s). Do any of you know how long I need to be out of the apartment? I tried to get information from this site, but they may not get back to me in time:

I can stay in the old apartment if I need to, but it’ll be practically empty so I only want to do so if it really matters. Thanks.

The brochure I got from my RE specifically addressed that question and said that it was OK to paint with latex paint in a well-ventilated area. Based on that, I myself was painting my bathroom a few weeks ago while pregnant. I think that most regular latex paints are fairly safe these days with normal precautions. It's not like the old days when it would have been lead paint.

I think any exposure to the zero VOC paint is fine. I painted a bathroom myself with it and researched it.
