I'm just wandering why they don't tell you if you are in the test group or control group. It's not like we can change the outcome. Is this normal not to tell the patient?

Which study is that?
Often the study design prevents the patients from knowing which arm they are in because it might bias their behavior. It's called "blinding". If patients prefer to be in one arm, they might drop out of the study if they are assigned to the other arm.
There are studies where the doctors don't even know which arm the patient is in.

My clinic is involved in a PGD study. I don't know if they are running it or just one of several clinics with patients participating. They will test all chromosomes. Also, they don't have to freeze the embryos. It's a fresh transfer, so I'm just dying to know what group I'm in. For those not in the test group, if you have any embryos left over they will do PGD on them before freezing them. So either way, a patient potentially gets some sort of PGD. I just found out I'll be having a day 5 transfer (today is day 3). I'm sending good energy that I'm in the test group...b/c I'm 39 and this could really help us in getting pregnant!

Hi karenthscorpio...I am eager to hear when they tell you which group you are in! I am about to participate in the SAME study (maybe we go to the same place) in NJ and I was wondering the same thing...I would have thought that they would tell you before the ET in case you want to have a shot at choosing gender. Please post when you know! Thanks!
How has the whole IVF process gone for you? I am just starting the process (yesterday was my first Lupron injection).

If you are a day 5 transfer there is a good chance that you are in the PGD group. My clinic doesn't run programs like this to test some of the patients. However, you can choose to do PGD. I had to do PGD for a known genetic condition, and I was always a day 5 transfer bc of this. On Day 3 on cell is removed from every embryo to test. It is then tested and the transfer is on 5.

Is that at St. Barnabas?

Ghost- I'm at RMA. I think they are working in conjunction with a clinic in Colorado for some reason. I remember reading that on the paperwork (i think...not 100%).
Molly- if you are at RMA then we are at the same place/study. I can share my experiences via PM if you want. I think if we wanted to know the gender perhaps we'd learn which group we were in eventually. But we really don't want to know (esp. my DH). I just told them...all things being equal in embryo quality, transfer one of each. Otherwise, transfer the one's you think look the best.
Amanda- I hope you are right! I remember from my last FET one of the doctors said they do mostly 5 day transfers...so it's hard to say for sure! UGH.
