Anyone taking nifedipine to stop contractions??

Post by tortillachip »

My doc admitted me to the hospital 2 nights ago because the fetal fibronectin test he did came back positive. My cervix went from 2.7 cm to 2.1 cm/ in one week. When the test comes back positive, there is a 50% chance I would go into labor in the next 2 weeks...which is scary because I'm only 30 weeks this coming Monday! Plus I haven't felt ANY contractions!!! So they admitted me, gave me a shot of Terbutlane which makes you feel like you've done speed, and then gave me Procardia in a pill form every 6 hours. The contractions stopped;-) They also gave me the steroid shots for baby's lungs, if she decides she wants out early. Now I'm on nifedipine, which is giving me what feels like heart murmurs and shaking hands. Is there anyone else taking this?

Hi Tortilla - you may remember me from way back when we both first got pregnant, our due dates are about a day apart, me with twins. Anyways, I had cramps and headed to the ER at 19 weeks only to find out I was having contractions. They gave me the shot of Terbutlane which quickly calmed everything down and they kept an eye on me for a couple hours and then released me. I saw my OB the next day and he prescribed nifedipine on an as needed basis ... If I get cramps &/ contractions. I've used it about 4-5 times since. It does make your heart race and it gives me horrible head-aches. My OB basically told me if I have to take it I should lay down after. He said it is completely safe though. I don't know if this helps at all, it is just my experience with the meds you've been given :D
