Acupuncture -??

Post by Chubbs »

Hi there
With a negative urine test and bled today it smacks me in the face that I'm not pregnant. One of the Bourne IVF nurses said that acupuncture was good for patients with poor ovarian reserve.
Now desparate after second failed IVF/ICSI and known high FSH can anyone give me any hope or information about Acupuncture.
Need something positive to focus on today as I feel soo low
Love Jane

I am so sorry about your negitive today and I can understand you need some possitive news to focus on , well I too have a High FSH and have had 2 x failed ICSI attempts with my own eggs My FSH is 10 12.3 16 and 23!!!!!! well I then decided to do acupuncture and after going every week for 2 months and taking tablets she gave me I got an FSH of 3.8 I was over the moon so asked to start a short Protocol the next day and they scaned me and found 2 x BL***Y cysts on my right ovary now I wasnt told that they were the reason for the low reading but it could have been OR it could have been Acupuncture , I feel very balanced and calm after every go and would recomend it fully , since my last ICSI with my own eggs I recieved donor eggs from my cousin which ended in a neg and on Friday I will be recieving donor eggs from a sharer hopefully!!! I have decided to go this route as I dont think I will respond well as my FSH did get to a 23 which is passed it !!! anyway go for the acupuncture there are loads of +++++++ results that have come out of it and they have all gone to the other side  as you will , keep your pecker up .

Thank you soo much

Dear Trace

Its soo amazing to have people like you there. You have just given me some hope in such a hell of a month. Its amazing how isolated you can feel, hopeless and why me?
Just reading your message has lifted my spirits and I'll be off to the yellow pages to find an acupuncturist. It does sound successful and being a stressout bunny it may just calm me down.
I too have problems with cyst and the right ovary. My only concern is the last cycle the cyst was not a usual shape?! The consultant gave me three options. 1. to stop the tretament, bleed and have a laproscopy. 2. go for egg collection and freeze any embryo or 3. go for implant and then if pregnant watch and review within the pregnancy. So I went for third option. Now I have to see when the laparoscopy is.
But in the meantime I think I'll go for acupuncture and see if this helps my FSH and see what my review consultation offers?!
Thank you soo much for your advice and hugs. This forum has kept me going over the last week

hi jane,

i'm sorry about your unsuccessful cycles. it is such a stressful time and then to receive a -tive, it's a real blow. i had two ivf cycles (1 was icsi) and didn't respond well, both were neg. age wasn't on my side (so i was told) and although i had a good fsh level i didn't respond well to the drugs so had low egg collection and high fragmented embryo's.

i tried acupuncture and chinese meds amongst other things and thought it was excellent. while inbetween treatment i became pregnant, just 3 mths after starting acu and chinese meds. also i have lost 3 pregnancies so had another worry about carrying past 3 months. i continued with acupuncture and i'm 28 wks now and feeling great. i am convinced acupuncture helped me enormously.

i must admit that when i initially started i was not overly sure but as traci said, i too started to become so unbelievably relaxed after each session that my confidence grew. i found a practioner that had experience in fertility and he knew he was working with an ivf 'r, poor responder and egg quality issues. i would recommend trying it. it does cost (doesn't everything!) but in the grand scheme of it, if it works then great.

Hope

Post by Chubbs »

Dear Phil
Your message brought tears to my eyes as you and Trace have given me hope that was rapidly dying. At 38 I didn't think I was old but over the last 6 months with poor egg recruitment even on high doses I was old. I'm so pleased the Bourne IVF nurse mentioned acupuncture because now I have hope.
It would be nice just to be calm but if I could achieve pregnancy that would be a miracle.
I will watch this message board to await your wonderful news.
The day has been a roller coaster but I just can't wait for my first treatment tonight.
I can't thank you more for your message and support
Take care

jane, i am really so glad the posts helped.

i am 43 and became pregnant right before my b/day. i know full well what it's like to be told "it's age", even though i first m/c before i was even 30.

i really wish you the best with your acupuncture tonight. if you don't feel immediately better DONT worry, it may take a few appointments before you feel any different.

speak soon,

Dim question

Phil
What should I wear, what do they do as such, I'm assuming he will put fine needles in me but where?

jane, sorry i might have missed you already. if not then wear underwear (might sound silly but i never used to wear a bra!! just as well i did on my first appointment). not too many layers as you'll be there all day peeling on/off.

he/she will put needles in certain points. mine were ankles, calves, knees, lowever back (just under my knicker line). other points are in the pelvic area but i didn't have it there as the same pressure points are in the lowever back (somewhere near the ovaries).

hope i'm not too late.

best of luck

Dear Phil
First session went well. Couldn't quite get to grips with chinese medicine and the yin and yang but he said I was definitely deficient in ? yin. Had 5 needles, both feet and wrist and one over my uterus?!
He said there was a lady at Harley Street that was the IVF specialist in acupuncture but said she cost £120!
Felt really positive after seeing him and have three sessions booked.
Today I'm back at rock bottom as I'm now terrified by the what next and possibility of no further attempts but will just have to wait and see what the review appointment offers and hope in the meantime the acupuncture keeps me calm and works on my uterus and ovaries.
Thanks for all your support

Hi I just wanted to say carry on with acupuncture,I started it in Dec an we had our 3rd treatment in Jan but we got a bio-chemical pg with we were quite positive about as we have never got that far before we started our 4th treatment in April and we tested positive yesterday we are so happy and we both think the acupunture and chin medicine had alot to do with it.
Wishing you loads of luck with your treatment

Dear Gem
I was really pleased to see yesterday that you were pregnant considering all the traumas you have had and your history. But todays message has filled me with such hope as you too have had success with acupuncture too.
I have just heard today that I should be able to have a third attempt with IVF / ICSI but probably its my final chance and I will continue with the acupuncture. Thank you soo much for your message it gives me even more hope.
Your news and message yesterday was wonderful, take care

hi jane,

sorry i couldn't post sooner, my pc has been playing up.

jane, you're bound to feel down following a negative. it is so hard having gone through the whole cycle full of nerves and anticipation and then in an instant knowing it hasn't worked when the tests results are through. there is no easy way to get through this bit, but don't give up!

why do you think the next cycle might be your last or not another one at all? do you have your follow up appointment booked?

i'm pleased you found acupuncture ok. i know about the Harley st. specialist. i was almost tempted to go there but thankfully didn't as i found a fab Dr NOT charging £120... have you been given any chinese medicine?
