Hi, I'm new and cannot get ahold of my Dr. office until Monday so thought I would ask here. I am a surrogate and started progesterone injections last night for second cycle. first transfer failed. i have been given 1 inch needles for progesterone injections in hip. everything i have read says they have to be done with 1 1/2 inch needle, but i was given 1 inch needle because i am thin. of course i am wondering if this is why first transfer failed. the dr. office never shared progesterone level with me so i don't know what it was. i will check with them on monday, but i'm thinking maybe i should be using 1 1/2 inch needle until then. i have next transfer on wednesday so i want to make sure my levels are good. any help would be appreciated
Dannat - First, I want to wish you good luck and say that I think it is wonderful that you are surrogate for someone! Now, to your question … it is perfectly fine to use a 1” needle especially if you are thin because if you do not have a lot of subcutaneous fat that you need to get through before you reach your muscle, the needles you have are just fine. I am a registered nurse and have administered IM shots with both 1 ½ inch needles and 1” needles. Also, if you had low progesterone levels during the first cycle and your RE tested your level, I am sure they would have mentioned that to you and provided even more supplementation during this cycle.
