Ghost - question about implantation

Post by kerpupples »

Hi Ghost! On Thursday, 1/5 we transferred 2 genetically normal thawed blasts (see picture below). One was almost completely hatched. My RE said that the hatching blast would probably implant the same day and the other blast the following day. Well, here I am 4 days after transfer and nothing but BFNs from my tests. Is it possible that either of the embies could just be biding their time? Also, I am historically a later implanter (no BFP until 12 days post retrieval in my previous 2 pregnancies). Is that more of a factor than where the blasts are in the process? This is also my first blast transfer - previous pregnancies were 3 day transfers.

Thank you so much for your help! --Amy

I hope you are not discouraged. You are testing too early. There are reports on the internet of a few detections this early (4 days after transfer), but don't assume those are routine. I would not give any weight to a negative HPT at this point. None. I would not even call that a "late implanter" yet.

You might try again in a couple more days. If it's still negative, and there's a good chance that is still too early, just wait two more days and try again. And again, if needed.

As usual, your wisdom prevails. Got a faint BFP this morning. :)

We ended up doing the PGD clinical trial I asked you about previously. Still early, but pretty sure that was the right choice. We've still got 5 genetically normal frosties if something should go wrong.

Congratulations!!!!

May I ask...why you decided to go with PGD? My DH has male factor and Im wondering if this is something that would benefit us? Maybe I should ask?

Thanks

Lauren - there were a couple of reasons. First, the success rate for this clinical trial has been upwards of 70%, which is ~15% higher than without for my age group. Second, I've had a miscarriage and transferring genetically normal embryos is thought to greatly reduce that risk. Finally, the trial got us the PGD for free and gave us a discount off the IVF.

So, it really didn't have anything to do with DH's male factor (other than that's why we need IVF to begin with). But I'm sure it's worth asking about.
