no one really knows if it is better for a 3 day transfer, 5 day transfer or 6 day transfer. some clinics have better success wit 3 days while others have success with 5 days. Just depending on the labs. Some Dr.s feel that the embryo is better put back in you on day 3 while other clinics feel that if an embryo doesn't make it in the lab to day 5 then it was not a good embryo to start with. This is what is frustrating about IVF is that there is no set guidelines on what is best. I can tell you that my clinic does a lot of 5 and 6 day transfer. they hardly ever do 3 days unless the patient specifically request. They have a good success rate with 5 & 6 days and 6 days is just as good as 5. I know its frustrating. Good Luck!!

Any day 3 embryo that can not make it to day 5 will most likely not result in a pregnancy. Culturing day 3 embryos to day 5 or 6 gives clinics a good indication about viability of an embryo. If someone has very few day 3 embryos, they may not want to wait to day 5 for transfer. Blastocysts in general yield very good results. Blastocyst are graded on both quality and rate of growth. This means any blastocyst that becomes 5AA on day 5 is better thanthe blastocyst that becomes 5AA on day 6.

After giving you most prevalent research data, I will write about my personal experience. I had a IVF cycle and got 15 blastocysts with varying morphology. I was high responder. I had my best of the lot, one day 5 5AB blastocyst transfered, nothing happened. Then I had my first FET cycle with one day 5 3BB blastocyst and came out negative. I was successful in my second FET cycle in which I had one day 6 5AA blast and one day 5 grade B 4AA blast transferred. I am 3 months pregnant with twins. Grade B blastocyst at my clinic means that the egg at time of retrieval was not mature enough. It had to be cultured for one day until it is mature enough to be fertilized with sperm. Embryos formed from in vitro matured eggs have low prognosis. But you never know. In my case very good quality day 5 blastocysts did not take but day 6 blast and day 5 blast from IVM egg became my babies. Viability of blastocyst can not be predicted with 100% certainty yet. Hope this helps!
