My IVF nurse told me walking, swimming and riding a bike are acceptable forms of exercise during stims. If anyone is familiar with Curves (workout franchise very popular in US) do you know if it is ok to continue with this workout?
Good luck to everyone!

This was a big issue for me since I exercise all the time and have been for many years. My clinic actually told me no exercise after Day 4 of stims. I argued this with them as I knew that exercise was the only thing that would give me hope of keeping it mentally together thoughout the whole thing. They told me that once the ovaries began to swell I'd run the risk of ovarian torsion which could, potentially, result in the loss of an ovary. At any rate, I'd say your body will let you know what it can or can't take. By day 7 or 8 of stims, I was able to ride the stationary bike at a reasonable pace (doing so when my DH was at work because he wouldn't have been happy about my going against Dr.'s orders)! There's no way I would have contemplated going for a run though (ouch). I stuck with cycling and the elliptical trainer but my workouts got significantly less ambitious the longer I was on the stims. For one, my heart rate seemed to increase much faster than it normally would. For another, a day or two prior to EC I was in a bit of pain just walking. You will know how much you can take.
I've heard of Curves and have some idea what it involves but have never been there myself. I think it would be ok...at least up to the point where you might start feeling some discomfort...which probably won't be until a few days prior to EC.
Hope that helps!

Like Staci, I too an am excercise fantatic. Now holding at about a month without going for a run or playing volleyball has been tough.
My office actually had a woman Phys Ed teacher do too much and like Staci said one of the follicles erupted, this is a very bad thing...so just try to go on long walk etc. I wouldn't lift weights, and I know that Curves is based upon machines and cycle training.
My body has currently turned to Jell-O, but I have faith after the PG test that I can get it back into working condition
Candy,
I walked on the treadmill on an incline, until 5-6 days into the stim cycle. Then started again the day after transfer.
I was told not to lift weights. Like the other ladies said, your body will tell you when to stop. I felt like a cow, but I was afraid of my ovaries twisting. So take it easy for a few weeks.

TTC#1 since '97

1st IVF 5/04 - transferred 2-neg
2nd IVF 7/04 - transferred 3-pos but MC at 8 wks.
Thanks for the replies. I did speak with a nurse today and by her reaction you would have thought I asked her if I could train for a triathalon. She told me not to continue with Curves. I can only walk, bike or swim. She made it very clear that this is my time to rest and take it easy. I guess she doesn't understand how much exercise helps mentally as far as reducing stress. I will be good and walk on my treadmill - it's better than nothing.
Good luck to everyone!

You should have seen the look on my Dr.'s face when I asked if I could still play in the Bud Light Beach Doubles Volleyball tournament. He was laughing out loud. He also said, you won't feel like it anyway and he was right. With all of the fluid and follicles, getting in a bikini and playing volleyball in front of a crowd of people was the last thing on my mind.
