I was sitting last night thinking about things and I suddenly thought "me and DP have never had a test to see whether we are one of these couples that our genes counteract with one another" - I don't know what the official test is called but sure it is fairly basic - I wonder if we have gone through all of these treatments and we just simply can't ever have a baby because of our genetics - then I thought "surely our hospital would have done this test at the offing" - wouldn't they ????????????? Does the fact that we have good grade 6 to 8 cells make this not a viable option?
I don't know whether anyone has any views on immunological problems or has heard anything about this?
What are your thoughts please?
Love
Nickie
1st Cycle ICSI - Cancelled before E/R due to poor response
2nd Cycle ICSI - April 2004 Negative
3rd Cycle FET - July 2004 - Negative
4th Cycle ICSI - Nov 2004 - BFP (Oh my GOD)
We have never had this test either, however, for some reason I was under the impression that if this was a problem it would show up at the initial stage when the sperm & eggs were mixed and no viable embryos would be created.
I can't remember if this was something I was told or just a conclusion that I jumped to.
Hi Nickie,
You are basically at the same stage as me i think. One fresh cycle and one fet. The odds are that it will take three goes before we get a positive (30% success rate). Therefore I think it is too early to tell for you, and it would be pretty rare for there to be a genetic problem. I am sure the clinic would do this test first off if they thought it was worth it. However it is worth ago.
Have you had the antiphospholipid / anticoagulant and lupus blood tests. The Lister suggested these for me and I had them done via my GP.
I just think we have to keep on at it, and our time WILL come. Sorry I haven't really given you much useful advice or answered any of your questions

OK,
I know this may sound stupid, but I read in a magazine that Courtney Cox had no problem getting pg but kept having mc. She said that it was because of her body rejecting the embryo, I think something to do with anti-bodies. They did genetic testing on the embryos when they did IVF and she was able to sustain a pg.

Nickie,
We are going to have the Genetic Screening done for our next ivf cycle but we have had 3 full ivf and 3 frozen ivf attempts and still no pregnancy. We have no problem with producing embryo's we are lucky enough that most reach blastocyst stage but our problem is with the embryo not implanting.I don't think that you need to worry yet as i think it takes most people 3 attemtps to get pregnant but i totally understand where you are coming from and that you want to do everything possible and are willing to try anything to get there.Has your consultant recommened that you have any tests done as that would be the next stage but i'm sure that you won't need them and hopefully your next try will be successful.
Wishing you lot's of luck,
Nicky
