New - Have some questions

Post by maxaccess »

My wife and I just recently went through the IVF! We are in our 2 week waiting period! We had 7 eggs fertilize one 7B, two 6B one 5A , one 4B and two 4C! We transfred three the 7 and 6's! I called the doctors office today to find out if any made it to be frozen and they said no!

My question's are

Are 7B and 6B's ok? Does anyone know what it exactly means?

Is the fact that the others could not be frozen have any impact on our getting pregnant!

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Trey

Im sorry i dont think I can help. where are you from? Over here in the UK our embryos/fertilised eggs are graded from grade 1 to grade 4, grade 1 being the highest, it all depends on the cell division. Or at least they were at my clinic. my clinic are very strict and anything graded less than a 2 is thrown away!! however out of all the eggs they took from me there were only 4 that made the grade and they put 2 back, a grade 1 and a grade 2, and froze the other 2. And look at me, now 16 wks pregnant with twins!! :)

dont be disheartened, the clinics know what is best usually I have heard of people on this board getting pregnant with grade 3's or less, and you have had 3 of your bundles put back which gives you a bigger chance that if you had had 1 or 2 out back. the best thing to do now is to rest and wait - tho i know its heard, at least i know THAT is the same all over.

Did your clinic not explain to you what all those numbers meant. Im guessing maybe a 7B is a 7 celled embryo?? Dont know what the B stands for tho.

I hope that someone else can help, if you post where you are from maybe someone else from there can help you, most of us are European but we have a few US girls lurking - tell your wife to rest up, nothing is harder than this 2WW bit!! But we are all here on the board to help you through it

Love

Hi Trey,

Firstly, welcome. You sound like a very supportive husband and believe me - us women need that support more than ever during ivf ( especially the 2ww)

My hospital grades our eggs with numbers and letters also.
The number 7 ( for example) is how many cells it has divided into, the higher the number the better and the grade A ( for example) is the quality of the egg, A being the highest.

If you are unlucky this time ( hopefully not) then you could ask about the blastocyst method if you are still not happy with the eggs.
In brief.. the blastocyst method is where they keep the fertilized eggs out longer before they transfer ( usually day 6 I think) this means they can monitor the eggs closer and if the eggs reach the "blastocyst stage" ( 20 cells , again I think) then they are transfered back and it is a more natural experience to the body, it can give the eggs a better chance of sticking to the womb as this is the stage it would reach the womb in a natural conception. If the eggs do not reach a good stage though, they may not transfer them and you could risk loosing the chance of having a full cycle that time, however, they will be able to acknowledge if the eggs are the problem or not.
I am still a bit hazey with all the details, you can find info. on the left hand side of the board. Not all hospitals do this and they don't all do it the same either.

good luck!!!!!!!!!

Hi Trey - Following on from Leanne and Toni's posts, to your second question .....The 5 and 2x4s obviously didn't divide as well as the embryos that were replaced. The fact that the 5 and 2x4s didn't make freezing bears no relation on those transferred back. I hope you are both surviving the 2ww, and will soon have / have good news.

hi,
dont know if i can be of help but again im from uk where embryos are graded 1 -4. 1 being the best. I had 5 eggs fertilized 2 were grade 1 minus and 3 were grade 2. My clinic advised against freezing the grade 2,s but said they would if we really wanted so we froze them. I know they have a lesser chance of survival but there is still a chance. i had 2 grade 1 minus embryos replaced and my test date is the 14th march so in that horrible 2ww!

Trey,
Congratulations!!! All that worry for nothing. :D

I'm confused about the cell division number of 7? I thought if they were dividing properly, it had to be an even number??? All my numbers were even. Anybody know for sure?

Trey !! CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF YOU !!! Now only another 9 months of worrying .. :)

Randa - I read the same - that it had to be even cell division. Then, at my last ET, I had a 7. When I questioned the doc, he said that it was absolutely fine - basically, that it was changing all the time, and that it would/should soon become an 8.
