Sources of Information

Post by debs_si »

Dear All

I have been working for a PCT for the past 6 months, still in the "getting to know the ropes" phase. After submitting postings in forums I have found out that PCT's are the people to contact re: IVF on NHS. So all this time I have been in the heart of information and did not know it :(

Anyway today I asked a few questions and have been given some links, which I thought I would share with you all.

Thanks Debs x

I haven't read any of them yet but wanted to say Thanks for going to the trouble of letting us all know.

Good luck with your appointments.
I know I picked up so much info. from this board that when I went back for a consultation after 3 failed ivf, I felt so armed with knowledge and information about all my options, I really felt like I was in control of the treatment. I think the consultant was quite shocked at some of the things I knew!
keep us posted on your news x

Thankyou so much Debs does not fill you with much confidence though that poeople that work at PCTs only just get the info!
My doctor and primary care trust has told me I will not get treatment as the only NHS hospital does not do ICSI,but looking at your list of firtility hospitals another one in the area that does do ICSI takes NHS I am in complet shock all this happened a year ago and I am currently doing egg share to fund treatment(even though it probably will be abbandoned)If my stupid doctor has sat on this info for that long I will have to restrain myself when talking to him.

Hi TylerB

I am so pleased that my info can be of some help to you,but at the same time sorry that this info was not already past to you through your GP. It was not the PCT's fault that I only just got the information though, I hav eonly been there 6 months and I work in the health improvement sector ie Healthy start to life, Quit smoking, Dietetics, Obesity, Diabetes. It was upon hearing a conversation that I realised the PCT deal with IVF, so than is when I began to enquire.

Where are you doing Egg share and why do you think it may be stopped?

I had a consultation for Egg Share but was refused it as I am sickle cell trait - you can read more in my postings at

http://www.fertilityzone.co.uk/thread.p ... =1343&sid= and http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum ... on=profile

My consultant said that many clinic would have the same view as him, but I have had an email from a clinic in london that said that I could do it there and I have heard from a few women who have been in the same position and have been accepted. So what I haev learnt from this is " always get a second opinion".

I would take it up with your Dr, for not providing you with info you could have used a year ago.

Keep me posted

Ps Please excuse the typo, wish there was spell check on this

Hi debs sorry for that comment I don't have much faith in NHS my doctor is a moron!! I am on egg share at the Lister Hospital and I am afraid one of the blood test was sickle cell,it must be such a pain to get so close then have that stop you from strarting treatment.
My egg share might be abandoned cause I found out today I only have 6 follies,I either give the recipient all the eggs and have another go myself keeping all my eggs or I keep all the eggs on this cycle but never get to do egg share again,my head hurts I have been thinking too much

Don't be daft, there is no need to apologise :) I too have little faith in the NHS!

Now I am shocked that becuase they only found 6 follies you have to decide whether to keep them all and never do it again or give the recipient all the eggs. Now from what I have learnt, what ever the amount of follies produced, it is split equally. In the case of an odd number production, the donor gets the extra. If the donor decided not to share the follies then they are liable for the full cost of the IVF. (if anyone knows differnt, please clarify)

Your head hurts, mine does too, so much info to take in. :?
