i dont really belong here but...

Post by minnow »

hi all, well today has taken my breath away. i posted earlier on the general site about being bored rigid waiting for AF to come while i was downregging. i have had strange low down feelings which i cant really describe but which indicated it was just around the corner.

anyway, i thought i'd do an hpt just for the helll of it and yes, i got a BFP! didnt ever think i'd see that result. I rushed straight to my IVF clinic and they did an immediate blood test which again came back positive. i am now waiting for them to ring with the results of the HCG levels. i am over the moon and in utter shock. our situation was unexplained but having started a second ivf cycle it was the last thing i expected.

my clinic takes the policy that the downregging cant have caused any problems and said that this does occasionally happen and most frequently after an initial failed cycle. they have suggested i take the progesterone pessaries for a few weeks too. i am going back on sat to check hcg levels again and they will also scan me at 6.5 weeks to check for a heartbeat.

it's funny but because of everything we've done over the last few months with ivf, this feels as if it is a semi ivf baby although of course it's not. is there a home for people who become pregnant mid treatment naturally?!

love and best wishes to all

thanks for that Sophie-J. it would be great to stick around here if i could. this is unchartered territory for dh and myself!

clinic rang to say levels are fine - 367. not sure how many dpo that is, but i reckon around 17 so i guess those levels are normal. i will go back sat to have them checked again.

i have spent the last 18 months reading books on how to get pregnant and of course about ivf, now i need to read about being pregnant! can anyone out there recommend a good book to take you through the whole pregnancy as i am a complete novice and amazingly only have a few friends with babies? i'd like to read something which guides you through the physical aspects but also about the tests involved. i also would like it to include advice on wellbeing throughout!

gosh... i can hardly believe i am typing this. never thought the day would come...

good luck all and esp. Deborah for her scan tomorrow.

Dear Minnow

Congratulations !!!!!! Welcome to this side - of course you belong here !!

I can't really recommend any reading text to help you through your pregnancy but I have found a website called www.babycenter.com that gives you a week by week account of what is happening to you and your baby which I have found really helpful. I'm not sure if it's a UK site or not so it may not be helpful regarding tests etc.. but your midwife should be able to go through all the options with you.

Look after yourself and your lovely little bump and try to enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can !!

Luv

Minnow,
Congrats on your BFP!!! That's great news! You and DH must be thrilled!
If your clinic said your levels are fine, then I wouldn't worry at all. I'm sure they are normal in regards to DPO.

I felt the same way as you coming into this pregnancy. Tons of info and books on getting pregnant, and no clue what to expect when it happened. I found that there are tons of great books out there, so definitely check out your closest book store. I really like the books that let you know what's happening week by week. I have 3 personal favorites. One is "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" by Dr. Glade Curtis & Judith Schuler. It's super detailed with everything from what tests to expect, diet, exercise, various conditions that develop, etc. The only down side is that it's paperback and lacking any photos. So with that in mind I also bought "The Pregnancy Bible" by Joanne Stone & Keith Eddleman. It covers everything as well, but has wonderful photos of what baby looks like at 18 weeks, what you look like, then also includes info on nutrition, travel, labor, after baby care, etc. The two combined answered every question I had. One last suggestion ... a friend of mine gave me a super funny book. "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine. It's an absolute riot! She gave it to me when I started the second trimester, so I had already read through the other books (perfect timing). The author is a 4 time mom who gives you the brutally honest scoop on pregnancy, labor, the birth, and afterwards. She answers all the embarrassing questions in a super funny way. I loved it, and I'll probably buy this for every pregnant woman friend from here on out.

Sorry for such a long reply. I'm sure you'll find some great reads out there. If not, feel free to check out the ones I mentioned. Congrats again and enjoy every minute of your pregnancy! It's truly miraculous!

Hugs,
Kelly

hi. thanks for your support and suggestions. i have armed myself with "Your pregnancy bible" which seems to cover a lot of ground. it still hasnt really sunk in yet and wont i suspect until a scan.

naturally, i'm terrified by every strange feeling and convinced things are coming to an end. since a few days beofe i found out i was pregnant i've been having some strange abdoninal sensations. they cant be described as cramps, more feelings of discomfort. they seem to come and go but have been daily. no sign of bleeding either. no real pregnancy symptoms as yet. my nipples are very sensitive, but my boobs feel pretty normnal. as this is a first baby i have no idea of what is normal and whether the abdominal thing is perfectly ok or a warning that things could be wrong.

on sat i had another hcg test to see if my levels had gone up in 48 hours. first number was 387 and on sat it was double so i guess all ok. any words of wisdom from those who have had babies before or those who are further down the line than me would be greatly appreciated. i will be 5 weeks on tues.

also, is anyone else out there at roughly the same stage and want to keep in touch??

love and best wishes to all of you wherever you are in your pregnancy.

Dear Minnow

At five weeks pregnant the discomfort you are feeling in your tummy is probably due to the changes going on in there. Over the next few weeks you are likely to feel all sorts of aches and pains as your body makes room for your baby. These aches and pains can be really worrying at times but are quite normal. However, if you need reasurrance at any time you should phone your clinic or midwife.
As for symptoms - I didn't have morning sickness or sore boobs. I've been waiting for boobs to appear since the age of 12 and at 32 weeks pregnant they're still tiny - I'm so disappointed. :? No signs of bleeding is great - I was lucky enough not to have any bleeding either, but a lot of woman do bleed and still go on to have a normal pregnancy - but if you're not bleeding it's one less thing to worry about. :)
I remember being at the 5 week stage so well and from what you've written it sounds like you're doing absolutely fine.

Will look forward to hearing about your 6.5 week scan

Take care

Kim
