Sounds very frustrating that everytime you've been prepared to have treatment you have a setback.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this.

I've not had this experience myself, but I know there are several women here who have had to delay ivf for a variety of reasons.

Have you read up on all the info the dr.'s are giving you?

Hi Stepmom

sorry to hear you've had a frustrating time, especially if finding the money is one of the problems, cos that just never seems fair. I know IVF is expensive here in the UK but it seems just unbelievable in the US. I had my first IVF abandoned due to a life threatening medical emergency and felt really cheated that I never got to harvest my eggs, so I can empathise.

I'm a bit confused though about your problems in retrieving your eggs due to blocked tubes. I've also got tubal problems and I have started to wonder exactly how they get to the follicles, if they go in via the uterus and then the fallopian tubes. I think IVF was originally designed for women with blocked tubes, so it must work, but am I missing something here? How do they get there? And can tubal damage get in the way and should I add this to my list of things to worry about (it's getting to be a long list!)

Hi Caroline ... If you have a look down the left hand column of this site under "IVF and ICSI" and choose 'IVF Procedure', then within that at 'Egg Collection' it explains that the ultrasound probe (needle) goes through the vaginal wall, straight into the ovary (ouch !) and the fluids sucked out of the follicle etc .. so, it misses the fallopian tubes completely.

Thanks for that Sandra - it's good to have an idea how it works, though I can't say I feel any better for knowing that!
