I've been asking about this on first trimester thread but not many on there have experienced OHSS and wondered if anyone else has. My doctor is convinced I was overstimulated because I am very bloated (I look 6 months pregnant even though only 5 weeks) and I am still in pain. I just wondered how long other people's symptoms lasted if they had this condition because it's really very uncomfortable and not very easy to get on with day to day life! Is there anyone out there who can help / offer advice / give me a light at the end of the tunnel?!

I didnt suffer from OHSS, but I know some other girls have done following becoming pregnant. I think the main thing is to make sure you keep well hydrated and rest and if your symptoms get worse contact your clinic.
One (good!) thing i read about OHSS in a book im reading 'The IVF Revolution' by Robert Winston, is "It is true that if you get OHSS after an embryo transfer and are pregnant, the pregnancy is more likely to stick!'
Im sure it doesnt last that long. Hope you feel better soon.Take care.

Im 15 weeks pregnant tommorrow! It is an incredible journey. All the best with your scans - they really are amazing.
Ive learnt so much more about IVF from the Robert Winston book. Im still really fascinated by the whole process. He mentions that when they were doing transfers at the end of the day, they would enjoy a glass of red wine with the client to relax her, and it appeared to improve the chances of pregnancy!!!!
Take care

Wow - that sounds great, I wish my doc had recommended that! Congratulations on your 15 week pregnancy - you must be starting to feel more confident and enjoying it more now (did you spend your first trimester convinced it was going to end any second like me?) Which book do you have? I looked up in my book but there wasn't much in it so I'd like to get hold of some others - any other recommendations?
I can't believe I'm finally posting on this site - I'd peeped on so many times but never thought it was going to happen - Fantastic!

The book ive got is 'The IVF revolution' by Robert Winston. I actually got it from the library. Its fascinating stuff. I wish I had got it before I started IVF. Other books ive got now are lots of pregnancy books. Gone a bit mad! I still see others I would like, but have to restrain myself! Just have a browse before you buy - most are quite good. My midwife have me an NHS pregnancy book at my booking in visit (You normally have this at approx 12 wks+, mine was at 14 wks) and its a really good book. All I would say is, dont spend as much as me! I have a few books now! (Although good when you have a particular symptom and want to look it up in each book!)
I am feeling more confident now re the pregnancy, but Im afraid I still worry. I surpose there is always something to worry about! Yes, I did worry things might not progress in the first trimester, and was scared before my scans, but the good thing is on this website there is always others to discuss things with and you can reassure each other.
Hope the OHSS is settling - take care!

I did have OHSS and although it was not a fun experience, it did confirm my pregnancy early on. Be sure to stay hydrated and do not strain yourself with much physical activity. I did have a short hospital stay when my u/s revealed cysts and ovaries were enlarged. This all goes away at about 10 weeks and then your belly will poke out for different reasons.
There are different levels of the syndrome and I am hoping yours is mild. Be sure to keep tabs with your doctor.

Thanks Sher - good to know that things can work out well after it. My symptoms have definitely reduced now which you'd think I'd be happy about but as I'm only 5 weeks pregnant I'm wondering whether it's a bad sign because they said that symptoms are worse if you're pregnant. I have to be positive and strong though otherwise it's just goiing to mess my head up so I will pray that mine was mild enough to relieve after a couple of weeks rather than longer - there's nothing I can do if things are goiing wrong so I must stop thinking about it. I just don't want this feeling to end - everywhere I go at moment I'm grinning like the cheshire cat and keep feeling waves of incredible excitement. Anyway - enough of me - I'll stop obsessing now - how is everyone else feeling?

i had ohss with my pregnancy, and it sarted going away at 7 weeks.. it was bad. but now i have a 4 year old.... i was told that as the placenta attaches and grows it will start to produce the hormones, and the ohss will subside, which they said can be up to 12 weeks...
Thanks Colleen - mine seems to have really eased off now which might be a bad sign but I'll just have to wait and see. So glad to see you're doiing well after a long wait for a positive - you are a true inspiration - many would have given up long ago! It just shows that if you';re determined and keep goiing it does happen eventually,
