Any chance of conceiving with 25% sperm motility

Post by annam »

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has managed to conceive naturally with only 25% sperm motility or is there no hope?

thanks

motility

Post by CARINABOO »

Hi Annam,

Welcome. I am fairly new to all this too but I do know my partner had barely motile sperm and some non motile sperm and we have gone through a cycle of ICSI. As I dont know much about the other treatments I am not suggesting ICSI is the answer for you....but just wanted you to know that our doctor told us that for ICSI motiliy is NOT and issue as the motility (or movement of the sperm) is mainly for swimming to the egg (and with ICSI that put it in the egg so it doesnt need to be motile) As you mentioned IUI has been suggested and there may be other options too but just wanted to to know that THERE ARE WAYS.....as long as the end result is a BFP right!!! Good luck x

Hi There

Not quite the same problem as you as motility ok. However DH as only 2-3% normal morphology and we were told we would need fertility treatment to concieve. While on the waiting list I have got pregnant naturally. It only takes one to make a baby, I'm sure with 25% motility you have a good chance of concieving.

Best of luck

I would say that you would concieve with that, my dh has no sperm so I would very much wish we had that situation.
I wish u all the best with it, I'm not sure about how 25% effects you, do you have any problems??

Hi Anna ... I'm just looking in Zita West's book at the moment .. To work out if 25% is good or not, you need to also know if the sperm are
(a) swimming in straight lines
(b) have erratic movement
(c) twitching but not moving forward
(d) immotile.

Normal fertile sperm usually includes at least 50% of (a) and (b) or 25% of (a). So, if your spermies are all (a) - 25% is a perfectly normal reading.

Another point made is that even an occasional alcoholic binge will seriously damage sperm and it could take 3 months for the sperm count to be restored.

Hope that helps a little ...
