I am new to this site and will really appreciate if anyone can share their IVF experiences. We have been trying for 3 years.
We discovered that I have polycystic ovaries and my husband has a low sperm count mid 2004. We were advised to go for IVF. My father passed away end of 2004 and I was quite stressed for the 1st few months of 2005. We then decided that we should try IVF in July 2005. I was so anxious and was very disappointed when the result for negative. I took time off work for the scans and also took a week off after egg transfer. I could not understand why it failed. All in all 2005 was a stressful year and we decided to have a break, a holiday and then try again in 2006.
Our first attempt was with St Helier & Bridge (transport IVF) and we are thinking whether to go with them or even Lister Hospital. We are not sure yet but I am so anxious about the 2nd round. I hope and pray it works !!
Sorry to hear the news about your father. Why don't you post this Q in general form, you will get more responses. I also have PCOS and I have a hystery of miscarriages. But luckily, I have a 7yr old girl with the help of clomid. I have been trying for the 2nd one for the past 4 years and no luck. Having a 2nd one is becoming more tougher than the first one. I have gone through 2ivfs and both are failed. Now I am having a frozen one transferred and got pregnant. I am at 7weeks by today and when we went 2 days ago for the scan, we couldn't see the heart beat. So this one is also in 50/50 chance. I am 36 and DH is 39. When I went to my doc for treatment in Feb'05 for ivf, he said, I am so young and it's going to be very easy for me(I don't have any other complications). We were very confident at ivfs. But it didn't work for us. What I am going to say is ivf is also not 100% guanteed. For some people it works and for some it doesn't. This is my experience. Good Luck.
Hi, Sita Best of luck to you and DH. Second time was a charm for my dh and I. I hope and pray it will be the same for you.
I am a firm believer that stress has a lot to do with all of this, and I did as much as I could the second time to reduce stress. We even timed our vacation (a do nothing vacation) to fall just 2 days after the transfer.
Best of luck to both of you and hopefully you'll stick around the site. All of these wonderful ladies have been such a great support system through all of the procedures and even now that I am pregnant.
Take care,
Brandy

Thank you so much Reddy and Brandy for sharing your experiences. I am so glad I joined this site. At times I used to feel so depressed and could not speak to family about these issues. My husband is supportive but there is alot of pressure from my MIL who now knows that we are going through IVF.
I am keen to go through IVF again when I read that so many women out there are never giving up. I guess it is best that we try and try until it works. I saw a program on TV the other day and a couple had tried a whopping 12 times for a second child after their first child was born. The embryos were frozen and finally they were successful again !
Yes, I think it is a good idea to have a stress free holiday just after embryo transfer.
The whole emperience is daunting for me especially as i am doing a very stressful job. Do you think it best to go through an IVF cycle when work is relatively quiet ? As I work in finance some times of the year are quieter than others. Will like your views on how you handled your cycles.
Love,
Sita.

6th IVF - June / July 14
My job can be pretty stressful as well. However, I did not base my cycle on what was happening at work. That is why we chose to take a vaca after so that I would not be submitted to that stress. If you can do that and pick a less stressful time it might be good for both you and dh...cuz if you're like me that work stress can sometimes tumble into home life

Did you go away somewhere for your holiday or did you relax at home when you took two weeks off ?
After my last egg collection, I had a lot of pain and cramps. My consultant prescribed pain killers and anti-biotics. Do you think this is advisable evn after the egg transfer.
I was thinking of really bearing the pain next time and not take any pain killers. What are your views.
I wouldn't worry about the meds...I think that is pretty standard. My doctor prescribed them anway. We went to a friend's lake house, which was pretty much like being at home, but without the urge to do anything like clean up

Yes, I also have a friend in the Lake District. May be I should follow your footsteps..
Di you take much of the prescribed medicines Brandy. Glad to heat that they are standard. I was honestly thinking whether the embryos did not survive because of the medication. I am a bit relieved now.
Yes, I took both the pain killer and the antibiotics.

Yep They do that largely so you don't get an infection and aren't in total pain...I'm all for that!
