OB release

Post by Tara2009 »

Hello Ladies,

I am from the December 2009 mommies thread. Since you all are ahead of us, I read this thread also to see what is down the road for us. I have a question. At what point are we released to an OB?

Thanks,

Wondercat, thanks for the welcome! and yes, they had me just do the hpts on CD 25 and 27. I guess they didn't feel there was a reason for the blood test until I got a BFP, then they had me come in and do 2 betas, all good numbers, I think the 1st was a 289 and 2nd was 623. And yes, you are further ahead of me. The LMP was on 2/26.... so we'll see how the baby measures on week 8.

Tara: I was told I'd be released around week 12-14..... I'm taking progesterone suppositories for mid-cycle and spotting prior to my period, but other than that, I think they just want to watch and take care over me (us) in that critical "miscarriage" possibility window.

Tara2009 - I was released after my second u/s, which for me was at 8 weeks. It would have been the following week, but they moved it up after I had some bleeding. Their philosophy is once the pregnancy is established it can and should just be treated like a normal one.

ianmichael3 - I know I'm ahead of you, I was just confused that your ticker says you only have 191 days left if you are only 5w5d along.

Hello, ladies! As I mentioned, we've been out of town for a few days. I was really worried about traveling with my horrible 24/7 nausea, but here's what happened. I forgot to take my prenatal vitamins one night and the next day had next to no nausea. So...apparently for me the biggest culprit of how awful I've been feeling has been those vitamins. The strange thing is they didn't bother me at all while I was taking them prior to getting pregnant. I'm going to try some different ones to see if I can find some that don't cause me to feel so horrible.

Hopeful - I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Keep up your great attitude and best wishes to you on your next cycle. Keep us posted.

Tara - I was released to go to my own OB after my third ultrasound which was at week 8.

::sigh:: I am so tired of feeling paranoid about everything with this pregnancy. In "real life" I am not a paranoid person, so I'm not well-equipped to deal with it now. In this case, I just got a message from LAST WEEK on the phone number I put down as my secondary number from my regular obgyn. In it she says that she has my "ultrasound results" and wants to go over them with me, and that since she's on call that night I can call her through the evening if I want. First off, I didn't even know there was such a thing as u/s results that you wouldn't get right at the time. Second, it just makes me more worried when they want you to call back that same day even if it's at night.

Of course when I called today, that particular doctor was not in so now I wait until tomorrow to figure out what's going on. Argh! When I had the u/s done the technician said everything looked great, so why am I freaking out now??

On a non-paranoid note, I was wondering if everybody else is still on progesterone, shots or otherwise? If you have gone off, I wanted to know if I should expect any side-effects when I stop taking my shots next week. Thanks!

Hi all.

IanMichael3 Welcome and congratulations!

Tara2009, crash any time. I am with my fertility doctor until week 10 or 11.

A spot of tea, congrats on the good ultrasound and heart beats!

The adventure continues out west! We went to the fertility doctor Monday who told us there were two heartbeats, but he was not hopeful for the second, as it was about a week behind the first. We were just glad that "Sac A" looks good!

Tuesday, we went to the perinatologist who said that they actually both looks great and he fully expects this to be healthy twins (of course, this is the same man who told me two weeks ago that the second sac died at 5 died).

We go back to both doctors next week - it is a rollercoaster and we are just taking it day to day. I feel blessed to have at least one strong heartbeat and see anything else as a blsessing!

I have an appointment this afternoon with a fertility acupunturist - friends suggested it and the doctors liked the idea. My perinatologist is also sending me to a pregnancy nutritionist next week. It all feels like a lot - but I am doing all I am told at this point!

Thanks all for the answers and I am happy to see your progresses! By the way, did your RE gave you pictures of your ultrasounds?

Hi guys,

I'm glad everyone is doing well.

WONDERCUT: I came off the progesterone shots last Sunday and business is as usual. Scheduled to stpo vaginal capsules in about 10 days.

nancy1 - Thanks. Just as my doctor had predicted, I was getting to feel kind of dependent on the shots as much as I HATE them. BTW, did your RE ever test your progesterone levels?

So a different doctor left a message yesterday to say I must have been mistaken, they wanted to discuss my urine culture results, not my ultrasound results. I listened to the message again. I may be losing my mind in other ways, but hearing is not one of them. She definitely said ultrasound. Called back this morning and the receptionist hung up on me by accident. I called back again and said, "You hung up on me," to which she immediately retorted, "I never did that!" We eventually agreed that when the phone clicks and then goes to dial tone one has probably been disconnected rather than transferred, and I was then successfully transferred to the nurse. After all this, turns out all I have is a very mild UTI. Good heavens, they could have just said that in the message instead of being so mysterious about it!

I hope the quietness on this board means that everybody is doing well. :)

Hi all. I guess my being quiet is good news. I have nothing new to report. still not much nausea, in fact I feel fine. I was tired 1 day this week, but that's all. I have an ultrasound with my ob this coming Monday - our first appointment. Our fertility clinic still wants to see us until week 12, but our ob/gyn wanted to see us already too. There's no way I'm saying no to another ultrasound - i need my mind eased again. I thought my symptoms should be getting worse!

I am so over the progesterone shots! We are continuing until week 12. My sides are sore and numb with big knots at the injection site. I even get twinges in my nerves that travel down the sides of my legs. The only upside is the bonding experience I get with my DH - it's almost like a nightly ritual now. He went out of town for 2 days last weekend and I had to give myself the shot. I sat my hip up on our bedroom dresser and it took me 20 minutes to do it - my heart was pounding. I know I've done the little insulin-sized shots in my belly too many time to count, but this is a much bigger needle! I did it, eventually, but I'm so glad I don't have to anymore. My DH is not going anywhere until this is over! Anyone else have to give themselves their own progesterone shots?

Glad everyone is doing so well, despite the doctors office craziness. I'll be in touch again after my u/s on Monday. Happy weekend!

cristi262 - Yes, I too have given myself the shots. And I did almost hyperventilate the first time. I stood there with the shot poised over my bum for about 5 minutes with my heart pounding muttering "you can do this" to myself. I'm sure I looked like a complete idiot, but I did do it and can now do it no problem whenever I need to.

My injection sites right now are red, bruised, bumpy, and ITCHY. Actually, the redness/itchiness is starting to move up my back which is kind of disconcerting because it goes 8 inches up from the injection area. Last night I was having trouble sleeping because from my flanks to halfway up my back on the sides felt like it was on fire. I have also been getting stabbing pains in the right side. Lovely. But only three more to go!!!

Good luck at your u/s today! I don't have one again until May 7. But if nausea is a good sign, everything is fine - I just threw up again! :?

Wondercat- oh- yeah, maybe it just depends on what I put in my ticker as the 1st day of LMP versus the day of our IUI/or color change on my Lh sticks?? I still haven't even been given a due date- so I have no clue if it will be the end of November or beginning of December! ARGH!

It is so good to hear good news from everyone- I'm so hopeful for my u/s on 4/22, but SOOOOOOOOOOOO afraid! I just can't help but feel like something is going to be wrong. I know that's bad and I should be optimistic............. but it's just how I feel. (Aside from the nausea and sore bbs!!)

Geez, for once I was not the one totally freaked out about my itching/rash from the shots... But my RE freaked out, and had me go to my regular doctor TODAY because it MIGHT BE AN INFECTION (her inflections, not mine). Ya know what it was? An allergic reaction to the bandaids I was using. Since I know I'm allergic to latex, they're latex free so I'm kind of stumped as to what part of them I'm allergic to. In any event, my silly husband should have been able to see that the rash was in a suspiciously bandaid-shaped pattern. I certainly can't see very well what's going on back there!

ianmichael3 - Hang in there! I know exactly how stressed out you are about the u/s. My biggest fear was that nothing was going to be there. I felt cold all over sitting there waiting on the exam table. Maybe some people can be all gung-ho optimistic - but clearly, some of us can't. :)

Hi everyone. We had another ultrasound today and our two little sacs look good. One is a few days behind the other, and our fertility doctor says he is concerned, but hopeful.

Our RE released us today. I had expected to stay with him a few more weeks, but he said we are ready to go - and we are already seeing the perinatologist regularly (because of my previous miscarriages and that fact that it is multiples for now). We go back to the perinatologist tomorrow.

I give myself the shots - my husband would literally pass out! But he helps with the ice, heating the shot, choosing the spot, etc. We learned a lot from the first IVF cycle we did, so I thought I would share some tips that have helped us with the progesterone shots:

-Heat the shot under warm water.
-Have your husband feel around for a spot that feels good (it can take a while)
-Ice the spot before you do the shot
-Use a heating pad after the shot
-Have your husband rub both sides each night after the heat for about 10 minutes each - it really makes a huge difference.
-I am allergic to bandaids too, so use small, round ones instead of the big ones and/or tape -that really seems to help.

They also found some clotting issues, so I am also on Lovenox shots - anyone else on those? It is a blood thinner and they said I could be on those through the whole pregnancy. We shall see!
