Day 7 on Lupron...

Post by AMITHIS »

Hi all,

I'm on day 7 of Lupron injections for my first IVF. So far, they are not as bad as I feared. My DH has been doing an excellent job giving them to me. So far, I've only even felt 2 of them go in at all!

As far as the side effects, it has not been too bad so far.

Tania, I'm sorry to hear you are having a tough time with the sniffing. I was still taking BCP's along with the Lupron up until 2 days ago. I don't know if those were minimizing the side effects from the Lupron or not. Guess I'll find out soon. I have had some very slight tension headaches and burst out crying once for absolutely no reason (which alarmed my DH) but, other than that, not too bad. I am more worried about the stims. which I'll probably start next week if all goes as planned.

Is there an easier way to reply to messages on this board? Should I be copying parts of other people's posts that I want to respond to in my message?

Exercise

Post by AMITHIS »

Caz,

I know how you feel about the exercise. I do cardio for 70 - 80 min. a day 6 to 7 days a week. I've been working out regularly since I was around 16 and have never taken more than 2 days off in a row except for once when I was pretty sick.

When they told me no exercise after the 4th day of stims until ?, I went into a panic. I have no idea what I'll do with myself. I'm always in a terrible mood until I get my workout in. And, like you, I am not a swimmer. I can barely dog paddle.

I'm wondering if riding a stationary bike at a very low intensity is ok? They said absolutely nothing that raises the heart rate. I don't really see how light cycling could hurt though...

Had blood and scan yesterday -looks like I'm downregged - so start puregon injections on Thursday. Yippee!
Hey - the GOOD news is that my doctor said the odd glass of wine was absolutely fine - YEEEHAH!!
So sad is my life - that ONE glass of wine is now a big night! TRAGIC.

He was a bit iffy about exercise tho - which worries me a tad - as have to admit am a BIT of a fitness fan (my ONE and ONLY GOOD vice i assure yoU!), and a bit worried I may go up the wall not doing any exercise. Everyone says SWIM - but I'm a completely crap swimmer and cant even swim in a straight line!! HELP!!

Take care all!

HI there
I have heard that exercise is basically fine - as long as yr heart rate doesnt rise above 145bp. Cross trainer/ bike am sure would be fine. Everything in moderation

Sharon - I have heard that ashtanga yoga is REALLY tough - would love to do it tho as everyone who seems to do looks AMAZING. Hope toe recovers soon!

Just did first puregon injection -myself! DH cant even be in same room!!!!
Was fine.

For first time - felt REALLY SCARED and quite NEGATOVE today (maybe because of first stim injection - dunno)
Called my doctor to ask what the % success rate was with TESE in a case like ours and he said he really couldnt tell me . I am now of course KICKING myself for not pushing him (I will ASAP) - but of course am left with the feeling that he doesnt want to tell me because basically the answer is - they havent got anyone in our situation PG (thats mumps and non obstructive azoospermia). DH seems REALLY anto using the donor this time
And am terrified of getting all the way to egg collection but then having no good embies (with DHs sperm) to be able to out back in

HELP!! I need some PMA!

Caz,

Thanks for the info. on exercise. Makes me feel much better. Only problem is my DH will insist that I follow the Dr.'s instructions (even though they don't seem to make much sense) so I guess I'll have to sneak in my workouts when he is at work.

I can't believe you give yourself your own shots. I'm not brave enough to handle that. Don't think I could do it....maybe I could if I drank a bottle of vodka first or something but I don't think that would help the procedure. Did your DH at least give it a try? Giving them might not be as bad as he thinks it would be.

Sorry you're feeling so negative today. I would definitely talk to your Dr. to try to get some reassurance. I'm sure there must be people who have your situation for whom this has worked.

Hang in there!

well
spoke to doctor today - and she said there is probably a 60% chance of getting usable sperm and then a 30% chance if getting PG with it. So my maths tells me theres about a 20% chance of something working - which I guess is better than the 0% they had left me with the impression of yesterday. I must say they were quite shirty when I rang and said "I'm sure the doctor went thru all of this with you at your consultation". Yeah....because if he had done I' d REALLY need to be using up my Good Friday calling you wouldnt I???!!!!
HONESTLY - it does wind me up a bit -I sometime think that these clinics forget that we are actually paying alot of ££££ and theres SO much on the line - that every now and again I MIGHT just need to inconvenience them for 10 minutes!

Right got that off my chest - better now!

Hows everyone doing. Nice weather for Easter eh?!

Take care

Caz,

I'm not sure what the specifics are of your situation but I think the chance of conceiving naturally in any given month for couples without infertility problems is only about 25% and I think most clinics have about a 30% success rate so it seems like your chances are just as good as anyone else's are. I know they are not the most encouraging odds. I can't think of any other situation in the world where I'd be willing to fork over such a large sum of money when there is like a 70% chance of getting nothing back in return. I think we're all in a situation where we have very little choice though.

I know what you mean about the clinic. I've had the same sort of problem at mine. One nurse was blatantly rude to me prior to a diagnostic test I was having because I tied my gown too tight and she couldn't get the knot undone. I didn't say anything at the time because I was already nervous about the procedure but I wish I had spoken up. I mean my money is paying her paycheck and I think that the least I deserve is to be treated with respect. She'd better hope I don't into her again while I am on all these medications.

Everyone,

Have a great Easter!

Morning buddies
Happy Easter
Traci It must be a short protocol,I have always done it for this length of time it takes just under a month from start to finish but I suppose it depends on how you react to the drugs I have always reacted really well to the drugs and am on the lowest dose,I'm not sure actually I think we saw about 3 which were 17mm and about 4 which were 14mm and a few smaller ones,in Jan I was only on 125 puregon as my 1st ivf I nearly over stimuated so they changed my 2nd drug from supercur to orgalutran which seems to agree with me better we only got 5 eggs in Jan and only 3 made it through so we had 2 put back in and the other one wasnt good enough to keep so this time they put my dose up to 150 puregon so hopefully we will get more eggs this time and pray to god that they want to stick around, last time we had a bio-chemical pg as I had a reading of 25 on test day but as I was bleeding it went down instaed of rising so hopefully this time will work, this is our 4th treatment and our 3rd ivf.
Does any one know if having a upset stomach will affect sperm as dh as had a upset stomach for a week now and it seems to be getting worse and sometimes hes in alot of pain so I have told him if it doesnt improve he IS going to the doctors on Tuesday but we are worried that it will affect his sperm, please someone tell me it wont affect his swimmers.
Well I 've rambled on again, have to go got my acupunture this morning.
Have a good bank holiday

Cameron was supposed to have a hernia op yesterday and we asked that would the anistetic affect the sperm ? amd they said no so I guess that an upsett stomach wouldnt be as bad. Hope he is ok.

Hi Gem

I shouldn't think your DH having an upset tummy will affect his sperm unless he has a temperature with it.

My DH had a really high temperature just before his first sperm test and the Dr was worried he had a problem too. As my DH had already got a child we queried it and after a lot worrying someone happened to mention about having a temperature causes the sperm to become less mobile and go round in circles so a month later he had another test and all was fine.

Just make sure your DH keeps his bits cool for the next few days. good luck for your EC on Tuesday. Hope DH feels better soon.

Love Dagny xkx

Hi Everyone

Havent posted too much this time, but the update is that I was scanned on day 5 of stims this time(as OHSS last time) and everything was fine, went back on Fri(day 7) and they had slowed down :( ?!? Anyway they upped my dose and pleased to say that as of todays scan everything is set to go, trigger injection tonite at 10.30 and EC on Weds  . Am I the only one who worries right up til this point? Last time I thought it would be canx as I had to be coasted for 5 days, this time have spent all easter thinking it would be canx as I hadnt grown enough!!!
Gem, I am going to be a day behind you again, good luck for tomorrow and I will be thinking of you.
Traci, am keeping my fingers crossed that all is ok when you scan on Weds.
Thought I would give you a laugh....I went for my scan on my own today as DH had to stay at home as we were having some new flooring fitted. Anyway at the clinic they said that they would call me later to advise what time to do my jab tonight. As it was a Sunday train service it took me ages to get home and the clinic had already called and spoken to DH. The nurse actually asked him if he was coming on Weds!!??!!(think his attendance is somewhat required! ) He said that he nearly said yes in a little white pot!!
God luck to all whatever stage you are at!
