Hello all,

Been couple weeks since I posted on this board, I am in my long 2WW get my beta test done this Friday the 4th and I am going nuts can't get it out of my mind! Every little thing i feel is either a sign that I am pregnant or That I am not pregnant!!!!! I can't keep myself convinced one way or the other, my DH is in Afghanistan so I am here all alone- stinky! We made promise not to test until Friday when he will for sure be calling to find out hopfully the wonderful news. We had 15 egss and 9 that fertilized and then 3 stopped growing after 2nd day and then out of the last 6 three were good enough quality to transfer and the other were so fragmented my RE said they would not make it through the freezing process so we transfered 3 -on a day three transfer which was the 24th they were 2- 8 cell grade A and then 1-6 cell grade B with A being the best of course so we are definitely optimistic that the Lord has chosen this cycle for our BFP!

Many blessings to all,
Amanda M.

Margi – okay, I have stopped my crazy dancing! Man, you should have seen me! I’m so excited for this cycle for you and your CA baby. It’s going to be wonderful! Have you found out if DH can get extra time off? Lots of love to you.

Andsahsa – yes, I agree. I really do try and stay as relaxed as possible, but I know how you feel. It’s hard to let it all go. Can you try and do something for yourself each day to help with the stress?

Leora – HA! I hate paperwork. You should have seen me today at the acupuncturist. I can deduct that from my flex spending and I had to explain to the receptionist about all of the mistakes she made on my chart on days I had visited for her to print me a receipt. Sometimes I just don’t know. I must say, I’ve come along way on knowing how to make sure things are done correctly! I have heard don’t swim at ALL! Tell me you are staying out of the water! That is so awesome about your ½ birthday party! I wish I was there to help plan it! I have a great ½ birthday party idea.

Qita – welcome! Better late than never! Congrats on being pupo!

Nwquiz – thanks for the sticky dust.

Kat – again, I’m so sorry!

Carol – That’s great news about your follies! Can’t wait to hear how things go tomorrow!

Anton – thanks for sending me good BFP vibes! I agree, my DH is so very very sweet and I can’t wait for him to spoil me rotten when we’re finally pregnant! You and your Fiancé are so cute! You mentioned he got an infection? Is he okay now?

Lou – I am sending you enough PMA for you and your puppy! So, I seriously feel some twinges and then I get all excited. But honestly, I think I’m just making it up! You are going to do great! Have you POAS again yet? Or are you going to POAS with me on Friday?

KRCA – congrats on an awesome 2nd beta. I am smelling twins! How exciting! When is your US?

Lauren – how are you doing? Ha! That’s so funny about the path for your dog. I think that’s what I would hate the most if I was a dog. Being forced to go to the bathroom in the cold. Seriously. My beta is on 2/9. Yes, an eternity away.

Hope – I’m going crazy over here, but doing good. That is amazing news that you have 7 really really good quality embryos. I am foreseeing a lovely BFP in the near future!

Wannabeamum- I’m glad that you have found the strength to move forward! What a hard journey it is for all of us and for you to have this on top of it. We are all here for you.

Darlene – I am so so very sorry. Words aren’t enough, so I am sending you a giant hug! I am enjoying being pupo and trying to enjoy every minute of it. Have a big glass of wine for me okay?

Sunshine – I’m so glad that you can take a day off work. Besides sleeping, I hope you spoil yourself with something you enjoy. Ha! I’m going to use that one on DH. Love it.

Amanda1979 – Ha! That’s hysterical about the nurse. I think if I was a nurse there, and because I’m a POAS addict, I would secretly tell people to do it! I would be terrible. I think they would fire me because of my POAS addiction. I think I would give away the sticks. So, are you thinking Sunday?

Jkublab – you are an egg making machine! Congrats! 7 is a great number!

AFM: I am going to have the worst day ever tomorrow. I am scheduled to fly to New Jersey and I don’t think that’s going to happen! We shall see. This always happens when I try to combine a work trip with a personal trip. I purchased a ticket for DH to meet me in DC and I don’t even know if I’m going to get there! But, don’t you worry, I packed the sticks. Also, in our Sunday newspaper, there was a $5 off of EPT pregnancy tests, go get your scissors and clip it out! Then we can all be POAS addicts on a budget! I picked mine up today! Come on…you know you want to!

You're Kidding! Medical Clown Increases Pregnancy Rates with IVF

A study of 229 Israeli women undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to treat infertility found that a 15-minute visit from a trained "medical clown" immediately after the embryos were placed in the womb increased the chance of pregnancy to 36%, compared with 20% for women whose embryo transfer was comedy-free.

After controlling for factors such as the women's age, the nature and duration of their infertility, the number of embryos used and the day on which they were transferred into the uterus, researchers found an even greater effect of therapeutic laughter: the women who were entertained by a clown were 2.67 times more likely to get pregnant than those in the control group. (More on Time.com: 5 Pregnancy Taboos Explained (or Debunked))

The quasi-randomized controlled study was published in one of the leading journals on infertility research, Fertility and Sterility, and led by Israeli researcher Shevach Friedler. It is considered only quasi-randomized because the timing of the recruitment of the control group was slightly different from that of the clown group.

In the trial, the professional medical clown — who was dressed as a chef and performed the same light routine each time — visited patients during the half-hour after embryo transfer, when women typically stay lying down and allow the embryos to settle in. The idea was to help reduce women's stress, which laughter has been shown to do, and, hopefully, reap the physiological benefits.

Researchers have long known that stress can sometimes play a role in infertility. The condition not only creates stress by itself, but treatments for it can often add to the burden: during IVF, women's ovaries must be artificially stimulated to produce multiple eggs — a process that requires several drugs delivered by injection. Then, the eggs are retrieved and inseminated outside the body. After the embryos grow for three to five days, the most viable ones are placed back into the uterus. (More on Time.com: Can You Really Be Allergic to Your Own Semen?)

It's possible that the more relaxed a woman is when the embryos first enter the womb, the more likely they are to nestle in and grow successfully. In previous research, a Cochrane review of studies found, potentially stress-relieving acupuncture treatments done at the time of embryo transfer have nearly doubled pregnancy rates.

Of course, with any study, there's always the possibility that the results happened just by chance. Statistically speaking, a result is accepted as significant if the probability of it occurring by chance is less than 1 in 20. The findings in the clown study were significant to the .008 level, meaning that the chances that the clown had no effect were 8 in 1,000.

Nonetheless, until the study is replicated, I remain skeptical. Either way, though, as far as treatments go, at least a clown is noninvasive, cheap and unlikely to do harm. And if it works, a lot more people struggling with infertility will have something to smile about.

Sherry: Yeah! Congratulations on trigger and day off of meds.

Kerri: 9 sounds like a good number! Don’t know about the pain in your legs. Have you mentioned that to RE?

Hope: Good luck tomorrow...2 blasts are wonderful! Sorry about the bloating. To some degree it is natural--but the gatorade won’t hurt any. Better to be extra safe and extra “salty” than take a chance of OHSS. Make sure to rest as well. How very exciting!!! What are your RE’s recommendations for after transfer? Rest? Bed rest? Just take it easy? You are going to be PUPO tomorrow!! I am so happy for you!!

Tammy: Looks like you are stimming away so nicely. This new protocol seems to be working really well for you! Hope the weather cooperates and you don’t have to take hours to get to the clinic.

Kynlee: Congratulations on getting ready to start meds! Thanks for the congrats to me. I started BCP tonight and will be adding Lupron sometime soon. This is a new protocol for me so I am excited to see my exact protocol when they fax it to me.

Darlene: So very sorry. (((HUGS))) Lucky it was only the trash can that you rammed into. Good luck with WTF appt on the 7th. Bring your list of questions! And another July baby you are! How cool.

Kat: Some more (((HUGS))) for you. Good luck Monday for your WTF session.

Carol:
Good luck tomorrow with SnS!! Those follies are gonna be lookin great. I can’t wait to hear your report. And yes, Happy, Fat and prego in the Spring sounds like a great plan to me, too.

Anton: Cyprus...so cool. I am originally from NY, but have lived in PA and even Iowa. (I wouldn't necessarily recommend you visit IA on your next visit to the US, btw. Unless you like to see lots of corn.) It is wonderful how sweet, supportive and understanding your DH is. You make a wonderful couple.Image
and will make such a wonderful baby (or more).

Qita: Congratulations on being PUPO! Enjoy and pamper yourself. Image

Kristin: Excellent 2nd beta...now the next 2ww...Image

Andsahsa: Sorry work has been such a pain. Looks like we will be pretty close in our schedules....probably 2ww buddies. My estimated ER is 3/1.

AmandaM: Sending you tons of baby dust as you...ImageIt is indeed a challenge to interpret the symptoms/non-symptoms...especially when either or neither could still mean a BFP!! Keep up the PMA!! We are all here with you.

Tiger: Wonderful dancing btw! Loved it and appreciated it! Yes, DH should be able to take off a week, so if I go for 10 days he will be with me nearly the entire time which will be fabulous indeed. I hope that your flight is able to leave tomorrow for you and DH’s minivacation...you deserve it! Image

Lou:ImageImageImageImage

Lyd10: Glad to hear you are “progressing like last time’. Retrieval next week sounds awesome. I am watching your cycle closely as I am doing a Lupron cycle for the first time myself.

Sunshine12: Love the sweet image of the babies choosing the parents...I’ll have to warn DH to watch himself these days. Lol. ER on Saturday? Sounds terrific!! Not long now.

Leora: What a stupendous DH you have indeed!! What a completely awesome way to start off this perfect cycle. Your PMA seems in great shape...I am just so excited and pumped up for you. Get to stimming my friend!!!! Image

Kimber: 5 day transfer tomorrow? Wow...look at all these PUPO ladies we are getting! It is wonderful! Hope that the weather doesn’t cause any issues...take care and be safe.

Amanda79: You are PUPO!! Congratulations! Rest up and let those embi-babies snuggle in to momma. Are you going to POAS?!?!Image

Rio: You, my dear, are indeed theImage..who taught me everything I know about blinks....lol...7/31 is perfectly fabulous EDD, however, your little bean just might want to appear on her make-believe-aunt in NC’s birthday on the 26th.

Jeib: OMGoodness!! 17 eggs. Giiiiiiiiiirl. Take it easy as you wait for transfer. Lucky 7 fertilized.....excellent indeed.Image

Pauleen: Where in Southern Cali are you? I will be going to SCRC. Why Cali? Because I now have insurance again and I wanted to find one of the clinics with the best rates with the older ladies with their own eggs group. (My current RE is sweet as pie, but has horrible success rates). So here I go! Ok if I send you a PM to maybe get some guidance about SouthernCalifornia?

AFM: I started BCP today!!! I have never been so excited to take a BCP before. Image It is a step in the right direction. The STAT labs have still not found their way to California--except for my thyroid which she said was great. My AFC was good at 16 so she said he wanted me to start the pill and as soon as they get the other labs they will send my protocol (Lupron). She estimates ER on or around 3.1.11. YIPPEE!!

Amanda79: THAT is hysterical. Leora did you hear about that study? Know any participants? I think it would have the opposite effect with me if some crazy clown came into the room after ET....I think I will stick with relaxation, positive visualization and acupuncture. But wonderful story!!! Thanks for sharing!

Hi everyone! :)

To all the snow ladies out there! I would love to have some snow in my back yard!!! :D Here the temperature is 12C degrees during the day and up to 1 degree at night. its cold but it only snows up in the mountains :( i so envy you!!! :) here it only rains...if it rains. i heard the news last night that the next few days and during the weekend we are going to have a rain storm!...yeah right!..i hope this snow strom most of you are facing will bring you also babies with it!! take it as a sign! :D

sweetpea-i hope the next cycle is THE one for you! so hang in there! good days are coming for you dear and hey! you can do fun stuff while IVFing! life is not on pause! :D

deftonesmo-hey there! how did your u/s went? i believe it was due on the 31st...

Lou-Friday is getting closer! i am crossing my fingers for you for a BFP!!!!!!!

Jkulab-Iam excited for you too! everything will be fine with your ET!! your 3 embies are super dupper! :D

Krcaja-How's mommy doing? :) i hope your beta 2morrow doubles/triples! i wish twins for you and a healthy pregnancy! :)

Sunshine-i like the idea of babies picking their parents :) good luck with stiming!

nwquiz-thanks! at least now I know one person that will read my books!

Cjinc-Oh! i love your wish of all of us being happy and fat with babies this spring! Amen! :) good luck on your follie check! ...dont worry if you feel like crying! didn't they tell you that it comes with the IVF package! :) haven't you read the instractions!: lots of crying, most of the times without any reason, panic attacks that this cycle is not going to work, also without any reason. no need to say more right!

Rio-hey! so sorry about your huspand's C adventure and I am glad he is fine now! well I am hoping to start end of month. Actually I am going to find out 2morrow morning (3/2) when I go for my 3rd and last embolio shot :)

LYD10-i hope everything goes well on your ER next week! you are getting closer to the BFP! :) so you had the antagonist protocol before. can you please tell me a bit about it? is the one Iam going to use this time and I've never done this one before. my RE told me that it will only last 2 weeks the whole thing (stiming, ER, ET) is that so? can you please share with me or anyone else that has done this before? thank you!

Hotgreentea-Good luck with ER! :)

Kerri-Don't get your hopes down! when is your ER due date? and which protocol are you using?

HopeisallIhave-Good luck in your ET tomorrow! everything will be fine! :) 2 excellent quality blast embies sound like a baby making recipe to me! :D lots of baby dust to you!

Kynlee-i wish you a great start on your cycle with a BFP waiting for you at the end! :)

Penny-Your AF will come any day now, dont worry! you should give your RE as many :?: as possible so that will help you make the best possible decision for your next steps.

Trusting-I wish you a BFP on Friday!!! :D

Tiger-Have a safe trip POAS junky tiger woman! and try to enjoy this mini vacation with your DH   ...in my previous PUPO days my RE told me no swimming, no bathing (only showering) no steambath and no orgasms! for the total 2ww! apparently having an orgasm (even a small one) can be bad for implantation. the infection you are asking my DH had it was back in 2005. he got a severe mumps infection that caused damage on both orchids. he is ok now, besides the fact that the infection damaged the quality and quantity of the sperm. and that is why we are doing IVF. the RE told us that there is no way we can have a natural pregnancy. only with IVF we can have babies. Other than that he is just super! :D he is an athletic guy all the way! marathon runner, swimmer, gym, healthy diet, healthy living, the works! Me, i do the same except the marathon, and not obsesively! :) seriously, I could die if i run a marathon! but i walk like 1hr everyday, go to the gym 2-3 times a week (depending on my mood), read, paint, meditating, i do handicrafts and I just love cooking!!! (everything based on a balanced healthy diet ...ok, not always :) ) and organizing parties and events! but seriously,I always loved to cook and experiment in the kitchen but the cooking Obsession started in my last 2ww! in those 2 weeks I have cooked and baked for an army! now i just cook every night and once a week I make a cheescake or something to treat our selves from exercising :) i think i might have been a chef in my previous life!...or a writer...or both... our friends are always looking forward to our dinners or sunday lunch invitations over because I give them royal treatment! from the decoration of the table to the decoration of the salad  i am a ''detail's'' person and perfectionist. The house clean and food on the table kind of person 8) ...except when my DH cooks once every 15days or once a month and on wednesdays when we have our Boys night and girls night and so we go out separately. he thinks of something and he does it and I dont even know what he is cooking until its ready. On his night I am off duty! just sit on the couch and wait :D (we have an open plan house so I see him during cooking and I make fun of him  ). but no matter who does the cooking we always clean the table together...except when he is cooking, then we clean the entire kitchen! lol

Amanda-is this research for real! :o  i love it! Medicine Clown! Ouao! i am going to suggest this to my RE and DH to do it in the ET! i hope my RE is not going to laugh and concentrate on the transfer! ...even if i dont do this I will be thinking of a clown during my ET for sure! that will lift my spirit! lol lol

margi-I am so happy for you! you "sound" really happy and excited! and you should be! I am crossing my fingers for you "California baby dreamer" :D

wannabeamum-i just loved the idea of yo buying a doctors jacket for your DH!! i am going to steal your idea and buy one for mine! we are going to have some laughs with that! ...yeap, its normal to feel like that with Gonal-F. i did in all 4ivf cycles.

AMF: i hope you ladies getting your BFP this month will continue and write here until I get my own BFP in March. i am going to be needing your support at that time....so dont you go and hide from me  ...do I write a lot or what! sorry for mumbling again ladies :) i told you! i cant help it! i will try and write less next time!...I promise!

Lots of baby dust to all! :D

margi- good for you. you know what i first started this ivf stuff i was mad at taking BCp. The first thing i asked the doc is how can taking bcp help with me making babies? :?: yes i was so insane at the time and i refused to take them coz i was not convinced of that theory. oh well it has its good. so go girl .
Amanda- I heard and read about that study to. and i was thinking how in the world did someone think of such an insane thing? oh well DH does his share for me as i rest. then he started to put on my pants making fun till am fully dressed. so i guess i get my share of it.
Wanabeamom-DH enjoys sticking me. he takes like 15minutes kidding around before he injects,. that makes me mad coz i hate needles. then he goes slowmotion i feel like hitting him. but i know he wants to be part of the process. he comes to all appointments without fail coz he feels guilty he is the problem we are going through this .
Anton-anytime girl am a reading celeb. so dont worry. keep writing and let those follies start growing to.
CjinNC- all the best in sns today. may those follies be big and many. and yes being bumpy fat in spring and summer sounds real good.
Rio- You go girl. yes when you think you are done then a natural BFP will surprise you.
Tiger- Okay POAS junky i see we are many. go ahead and pee b4 you go see DH for us junkies
those stimming may those follies grow large, strong and full. those in 2ww sending sticky vibes your way.
those waiting for af come on ugly witch we are ready to get the ball rolling. all those i did not do personals i have not forgotten you all. have a nice day.

That was a huge post Margi, but very colorful and quite delightful! :P

I had my bean count today and I had three on my right - 13, 9, 8 and, as usual they could not see my left. For some reason, due to the way my uterus tilts forward and to the side they can't see through it to my left ovary that hides at the top rather than the bottom. They could, for a brief split second, see it "pass by" and could tell there was something in it, but no count or measurement. However, on my baseline last week she was able to see more on my left than my right, so I am praying I have a few growing in there as well. In fact, the last time I did get pregnant in '09 the egg came from my left ovary, even though just 4 days before I ovulated my RE did a scan and saw nothing there - I think he just couldn't find it and blew it off... he was pretty slack to say the least. So I am trying to remain hopeful that others are growing and I don't have just the one dominant follicle on my right. I have already told this RE that I didn't want to waste the money for IUI on just one follicle.... after all, I get that every cycle just on clomid and haven't had any success getting a good egg in almost 3 years, so I need more than that to make my chances worth it. I may be a gambler (love poker) but I am smart enough to know when the odds are against me. SOoo.... two more days of stims and another sono Friday morning. Hopefully a few will bust out and my left ovary will be more cooperative.

Re: Winter 2010-2011 Cycle Board

Post by leorira11 »

Wow! This board moves FAST! Hopefully it's all good news!

Pauleen (andasha) - I totally understand. Our insurance pays for IVF until we have 2 kids. I really hope we end up with frosties! We don't have a choice, if we have frosties, we MUST do a FET - not fresh. So hopefully, I'll get pregnant this cycle AND have frosties! Our trip to Greece was amazing! I post pictures here, but if you can't find them, come stalk me on facebook!

Jeib - I hope you feel better! Good luck on Saturday!

Kristin - *I* know that we will good parents - the trick is getting the social worker to agree! Our appt is Monday - I'll let y'all know how it goes. Less than 2 weeks until your u/s!

sunshine 12 - I thought my DH never had a clue - but clearly he does! Maybe your DH will surprise you one day soon! (or you can give me his email address and I can 'encourage' him!) Hurrah for stimming buddies! When is your approx ER? My clinic won't approximate mine, but I'm guessing Feb 14-16 based on previously cycles.

nwquiz - I'm still hoping you are famous! I really hope that's AF knocking on your door! I need more stimming buddies! that Russian post looks like spam. We get some here occasionally.

Carol - I hope my ER is earlier than 2/18 --- but I don't mind going over my due date to have a baby on 11/11/11! DH says that if this cycle doesn't work - we have a chance to have a 'leap year' baby (birthday of Feb 29, 2012). I don't care about birthdays enough to want to push this off though! November 2011 sounds good to me! I hope your follies (and mine!) are growing like heavy-weight champs!

btw - I get super super weepy when pregnant. I was pregnant this summer and Katy Perry's song "California Gurlz" was on the radio all the time. Every time I heard it, I started to cry. NO IDEA WHY! :D

Rio - thanks for the penguin blinkie! For my first IVF, I did just Follistim (called "Puregon" here, but same stuff). For the second IVF, I did Follistim and added Menopur when I started the Ganirelix (no idea why they switched things). This time, doc said that last time I stimmed a little slow on just the Follistim - so we are doing JUST Menopur this time. <shrug> not sure why, but whatever. 2 Menopur a day and I go back on Sunday

LYD10 - I also love the "stick and stir" phrase. This thing is so stressful, we need some laughs in our live. I'm glad to hear things are going well!

Sherry - congrats! Good luck at the ER. Let us know how it goes!

Kerry - keep on growing those follies! Not sure about the leg pain - are you doing shots into your legs? Maybe ask your RE

Hope/Ashley - Tomorrow! Yay! Again, I'll say that choosing one or two is a really hard choice. We chose two the first time, and I lost my twins at 22 weeks. We chose to transfer 1 after that. I got pregnant again with the SET this summer, but miscarried. Now I'm feeling even more desperate. We transferred 2 with the last FET, risking twins again, but got a BFN. We will probably transfer 2 this time.... there is no right answer... just relax and be happy with whatever choice you make.

Kynlee - I really hope you get a fresh transfer! I know that it doesn't matter all that much, but for me, I've always gotten pregnant from my fresh cycles. 4 more days until you start!

Penny/Darlene - Another July baby! "SnS" = "stick and stir", ie the bloodwork (stick) and vaginal u/s (stir) - cute, no?

Amanda (trusting) - Welcome back! I'm so glad to hear that your ER/ET went well!

Tiger- I'm obsessive about paperwork! I file everything! DH thinks it's funny and laughs at me, until he needs the receipt for something from 3 years ago and I can produce it! If my doc says so, I'll stay out of the water -- but I'll miss it! Oh well... I'll have to take the dog on longer walks so I get my exercise, he'll like that.

Amanda 1979 - so many interesting things being done with IVF here in Israel. I hadn't heard about the clown thing... maybe I'll bring my laptop and watch my favorite comedy shows after the ET (Modern Family and Big Bang Theory - love them!)

Margi - Iowa? really? did you like corn? I've driven through Iowa... not the most interesting of the 50 states! PMA is not usually my problem.... until the BFN... hopefully that will stay far far far away this time! Birth Control! How exciting! --- I hadn't heard of that study Amanda posted (clowns after ET)... apparently a lot of interesting research is based in Israel (also the pipelle endo biopsy thing that I was a part of)

Wannabe (Samantha) - yup, my DH is fab! :D Your DH *likes* poking you with the needles? Mine won't even watch me do it to myself! I had him do the PIO shots (into my butt) and he was grossed out!

Anton - seems like we have similar weather. It only snows in the mountains here too - and we are about 12C during the day. I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's mumps. That's really scary. My DH has a severely low sperm count (near-azoospermia). Doctors tried to figure out why (did a karyotype, a testicular u/s) - they guess that it's because he had chicken pox when he was 19. You guys sound so happy and fun! So cute!

Tammy - any news? are you triggering? good luck honey!

AFM --- everyone read Amanda's post on the clowns. Israel really is cutting edge, no? My only fear would be peeing. I always have to have a full bladder for ET, and the 30 min my doc wants me to lie down afterward are SOOOO long because I'm dying to pee! I never make it 30 min without getting up to pee. I'm just imagining lying there, full bladder and someone is trying to make me laugh --- I'll just wet myself!

2nd day of stims - nothing interesting to report. I'm just curious - how strict are you about taking the meds at the same time? My doc wants me to always take them at 3pm (the latest I get the call if I had S&S). So far, not a problem, since I've started work at 4pm yesterday and today (don't ask! I'm annoyed about it!)... but tomorrow I'm working from 8am-4pm... should I bring my meds to work and inject at 3pm? Or will 4:30/5pm be okay?
