CtMichele, Have an awesome vacation! You leave today right... enjoy.

Not much going on here. I continue to swim on Wed and Fri mornings and I can't tell you how much it boosts my mood. It's incredible.

I also can feel it strengthening my core muscles and that can only help come birth day.

I am investigating a bunch of Bradley method birth classes, so I can't wait to hear what they have to offer. That method focuses on strategies to deal with pain so that you can have a natural birth. I'm no hero. I am just scared of not being able to feel down there, and I also want to be able to walk around and change positions during labor. Sitting on a medicine ball apparently helps at certain points.

Other than that, I took the time to go to the dentist today for a cleaning while I'm still in the 2nd tri and able to lie on my back. Couldn't get x-rays done, but they did check my mouth for cavities and clean things up. My gums were certainly more sore than usual, but the dental hygenist was really careful so it was all good. Anyway, I'm glad it's over with. It was really odd to realize when the receptionist asked whether I wanted to make an appt in 6 months that I'd have a one -month old by then!

Anyway, I've got a long list of things to do BEFORE the baby, and I was glad to get this one done.

Happy weekend, Lostgirl

Hey everyone,

I just got back in from vacation and it was wonderful. I got to visit my brother in ny for a few days and then onto the romantic poconos in pennsylvania. We were upgraded to a room with a pool in it(very small), but I swam everynight, and it felt great. I could stay in the pool for hours, it releived so much pressure. Dh and I also got a couples massage, which was fantastic. Although I did get the same weird back pain on my lower right side at about 35 minutes of laying on my back. The same thing happened at my level 2 u/s. I will ask my ob tomorrow at my appt.

I do have an appt tomorrow, and I called ahead to see if they would give me an u/s to confirm it's a girl. At the level 2, they really couldn't confirm it even though they all thought it was a girl. My office doesn't like to do u/s unless there is something wrong, but they said they would try their best. If they can't do it tomorrow, I go for the fetal echo on May 12, which is another 30 minute u/s, so we should know for sure by then.

I hope everyone is doing well, and don't forget to post updates on how your feeling. Have a good weekend!

Michele, Welcome back from vacation. Sounds like it was well worth it.

I've been feeling pretty darn good so good that lately I've been a little spooked that maybe the baby died. It's just a passing thought, but one I've had a lot in the past three weeks. My worries were quelled by a bunch of kind ladies who responded to a post on this site entitled "Paranoid or Normal?"

I get an ultrasound next Friday to see the fingers and toes, but we aren't going to be finding out the sex. My dh doesn't want to know, and I agreed to that, then went through a period of extreme curiosity, now I'm back to feeling fine with not knowing. I figure that surprise will be something that will keep me going in those last long hot weeks before labor. My gut tells me it's a boy. I'll be shocked if it's a girl. But either way, we are sooo excited.

Anyway, I had some round ligament pain in the dead of night a couple of days ago. Ouch. Boy does it hurt. But it passed once I found a comfortable spot and bed, post-going-for-a-pee.

I continue to eat well for the most part but two nights in a row I've had ice cream instead of my good-for-me yogurt. A girl's got to live!

Tonight I'm going out to a garden party, which promises to be a blast. I can't wait! I haven't been out with a gal pal in forever. I'm making use of the second tri to get loads of fun in.

Happy weekend to all, Lostgirl

Lostgirl- I had those same worried feelings, just because I haven't really felt any moving, but I had my appt today and everything is fine. Heartbeat is 157 bpm, and I talked them into an u/s so we could confirm the sex, and we saw the proof, it is definitely a girl! They did send me to another dr today b/c my blood pressure was a little high. The other dr said it was fine for now and we would just continue to monitor it. One weird thing is that I haven't gained weight, I have actually lost weight. I was down another 3 lbs today. It is definitly b/c I have had almost no appetite at all. Dr's weren't concerned since I am big to begin with.

How is everyone doing? It was like 70 degrees out today so I went for a walk on the beach with my grandma. It was nice, but boy am I out of shape, I am so tired now.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

ps- lostgirl- I had a gut feeling mine was a boy too, but I guess anything can happen, so don't be too suprised...

Hi Ladies,

Michelle - Glad to hear about your wonderful vacation. Sorry you aren't feeling well. Whatever nutritious things you can force down would be good that way your body won't harvest what it needs for your sweet girl from your bones/muscles.

Lostgirl - I have said the same thing you did many times (maybe it died...) and have been freaked out since I know someone that happened to. Happily for me I can feel tiny movements for 2 weeks now - that said, when I don't feel anything for a few hours it really freaks me out. I say, just enjoy your new found energy and don't borrow trouble. My husband also passionatly DOES NOT want to know the sex and though I am very curious, I am going along with him. We did disagree on names the other day (he likes Chloe and I think it is too common) and I will be firm on that point....

Yeah, 20 weeks down, 20 to go. Gained 15 pounds and 2 cup sizes. Sorry to have been so quiet for the last week, but I am frantically trying to finish my dissertation in time to get it photocopied Monday and distribute it Tuesday before I leave for the Virgin Islands for a quick trip to go to a friend's wedding. And, of course, I had to shop for some clothes since my old summer stuff doesn't fit.

I am SOOO sick of working on this massive document. Still quite a few details to finish, but I won't need to burn midnight oil....that said - I seem to be up for many hours each night, but I think it is due to an active mind (finishing and defending) and not a sick body. I was exercising 5-6 times a week (walking and lifting), but fell off the wagon a bit this week with my husband on a golfing vacation (he is a teacher too) and my dissertation due so soon. Despite my dilagence in the weight room I have lost that chisled look. Oh well, I would say easy come easy go, but the only easy part was the 'go'. My 5 mile walk with the dogs today took more out of me than I would have liked it to. Poor dogs wern't used to this heat! Me either. OK, back to it. Have a good rest of the weekend.

MLB, hope your thesis is almost done!

As for me, I'm desperately awaiting Friday ultrasound to be able to see the baby. I really hope he's OK. I haven't felt any kicking yet, but at 19 weeks I guess it's early for a first time pregnancy.

Still Friday is almost around the corner. Thank God!

MLB- Good luck with that paper. I Hope you finish soon. I am soooo glad this semester is almost over, just 3 more weeks to go!

Lostgirl- I hope your week goes by fats for you. I look forward to every appt., even if I just get to hear the heartbeat. It gives me reassurance. Up to this point I haven't really been able to tell if I was feeling the baby or not and I was starting to worry...

That was until my commute to work this morning. I am just over 21 weeks and I am pretty sure I felt baby this morning. Up until now, I wasn't sure if what I was feeling was gas, bowel, or baby, but this morning was different. It went on for a couple minutes and I know for sure I wasn't gassy. It felt like the baby was rolling around, and it was a little uncomfortable. I can imagine it will probably hurt when she is bigger. But it was definitely reassuring to finally know I could feel it. Our dr said dh should be able to feel in 3-4 weeks. We are going to start playing some classical music on my tummy tonight and see if we start getting responses.

How is everyone else? Washingtonda, andnichole? Any news or updates? We haven't heard from you in a while...

Schel- You holding in? When is your next appt? I go for the fetal echo on May 6, so another opportunity to see baby on u/s, and get a third confirmation on being a girl...I don't think I can ever have enough confirmation, I have heard to many stories about them being wrong!

We picked 5 classical songs from the cd my dh made. We played them on my tummy for the first time last night and I didn't notice any response. I am going to try and find time to do it everynight while I am watching tv. I think there will be response soon. I keep feeling the baby when I am driving, so I think that may be in response to the music I listen to in the car. Even if I don't get any response, they say it is soothing to play the same songs for the baby once they are born. I will keep you posted on progress.

CT_Michelle: Congrats on finding out you are having a little girl!

I went in for my regular OB visit yesterday. I say regular since I also have to see a high risk OB as well b/c of having twins. I was pleasantly surprised when the u/s tech asked if I wanted to know the sexes. We found out we are having a little boy and a little girl! I am so excited although now I have to figure out a gender neutral nursery theme. Everything has been fairly calm as far as the babies go. I feel them moving around especially after I eat which really helps to reassure me that they are doing ok. My belly has gotten fairly big already for only being 16 weeks along (tomorrow I turn 16 weeks but I am counting it now LOL). I will be so happy once class is done in 2 weeks. We go for our anatomy scan on May 16.

Washingtonda: How are you doing?

Hi Ladies -- I've been so busy at work and at home that I have not had time to post.

I am doing well and the baby is doing great. Just got results back from my AFP test yesterday and it was negative so I think we are all done with all the testing for downs and chromosomal type stuff so I am now releived. I am waiting now to get past that 24 week when they say that the baby have a good chance of survival if born after these number of weeks and is attended at a good neonatal facility. It's alway one hurdle after the next with this IVF stuff isn't it.

I have been having some severe back pains on a daily basis. I am showing but not very big yet so don't know what is causing this. When I got pregnant I weighed 136 and I am now at 148 which seem to have just come all in a month. Too early and too small to be having the back aches that I've been having. Anybody else experiencing this or have any suggestions.

Also I find it hard to eat without getting stomach cramps at times. I do notice when I'm eating more healthier things it doesn't happen as much. Any suggestions.

I go back to the high risk doctor on the 29th and at that time we can find out the sex but DH is making me stick to not knowing. I want to know so bad now so we'll see if we hold out. He wants a boy and I want a girl so one of us will get our wish but we'll be happy with just a healthy baby.

Also back to regular OB on the 2nd. Those are just heartbeat appointments and measure of belly which is still always exciting.

I wish I were off work for the rest of this pregnancy because it is so hard to concentrate and since the weather is nice, I want to be home and just enjoy the pregnancy. DH has offered the stay at home mom to me but I don't think I'm cut out to stay at home.

Good luck to all and I hope to start posting more.

CT Michelle -- Congrats on the little girl.

Andnichole -- My Shady Grove bud. I know you are excited to be getting one of each.

Lost Girl - Good luck.

WashingtonDA,
Sorry to hear about your back pain! That sucks. I don't know what could potentially be causing it this early. I too can't wait to get further along if only because risk goes down with each passing day, but I am also just trying to enjoy the 2nd tri, because I'm told it's as good as it gets. By the third tri, we'll be in a trickier spot.

CTMichele, I am starting to think I'm having a girl too. Here's why. We got our ultrasound for anatomy today and all went well. We told the ultrasound technician that we didn't want to know the sex. It's only half true since I want to know, but hubby wants the surprise. Anyway, when the high risk doctor came in to look over the ultrasound, she almost let it slip out, then I told her our plan.
She said, well a mother's intuition is usually right. And I said I think it's a boy, and she responded, well a mother isn't always right, which I take as a clear sign she was hinting we have a girl on the way!! I haven't discussed it with my dh, and don't intend to, that way he gets his "surprise" and I well am now pretty sure that I was wrong in thinking the baby was a boy, and think the doc was hinting that to me!

IN other news, I am strongly considering an epidural after hearing the birth story of my best friend from college, who gave birth to a boy 7 weeks ago. She went in thinking - like me - she wanted to do it naturally, but the labor was 31 hours, and involved all manner of trauma, and she did get an epidural, only to have a nurse shut it off completely 45 min into 2 hours 40 minutes of pushing.

Yes, you read that right!!! I was stunned into silence, and now find myself contemplating drugs, drugs, drugs.

Anyone else on the fence about drugs or no drugs? I think I may feel more confident after my birth classes, but got to say, I'm a wee bit petrified at this point. Not sure what happened to the tough athlete in me... Lostgirl

Hello Ladies.
I am glad that everybody is doing fine. I am trying to read your posts regularly, but between working and going to school I don't have too much time for postings.
We have had an u/s recently, and found out we are having a girl too. Both are very excited :D
WashingtonDA, sorry about your back pain. I don't know what causes them. However, you could try to wear supporting belts. My co-worker is a month ahead of me, but started wearing such belt a month ago, so I guess it isn't too early for them.
I also started feeling baby's moves (at about 18 wks). It is a beautiful feeling; I enjoy it every possible moment. My DH was able to feel and even see a few times those movements.
As for physical activities, I got a maternity swim-suit, and ready for water to warm up a little bit more before starting to swim.
I hope everybody will have a nice weekend.

Hello everyone!

I am so glad to see all of the new posts. I know everyone is super busy, so I understand when the posts are far and few between, but it is always a welcome suprise to hear from everyone.

Andnichole- Congrats on one of each! How perfect! I am sure you will do just fine finding a good nursery theme to suit them both. I am with you about classes...just 2 more weeks. Only 4 more assignements to go, and one will be done this weekend. It just stinks my b-day is on monday and everyone wants to see me, but I have to stay in and do homework :(

Washingtonda- Congrats on good results and creeping closer to the 24 week mark. I am also having some back pain, but I am not sure it is pregnancy related. I have had some posture related back issues in the past. I have now been sleeping with numerous pillows raising my upper body to help reduce heartburn, and it seems to be helping with my back too.

Lostgirl- After day 3 of music playing, I think the baby does respond to it. I waited until dh got home last night hoping that he could feel the baby move, but he couldn't even though I could. I think you might be right about having a girl from the responses of your dr's. Maybe you could talk dh into finding out?? Try to explain to him how much easier it will be to shop if you know...

Elca- Congrats on a girl! Have you talked about names, or are you keeping it a secret? I am thinking about a maternity swimsuit soon, but I am trying to wait until I am bigger. i would hate to buy one and then need another one. I have lost weight during this pregnancy so far and I know at some point I am bound to start gaining. It will probably be another 2-3 months before it is warm enough to swim in CT anyways.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend. I have to go finish homework so my dh can take me out for b-day tonight. We won't be able to go on my actual b-day (monday) since i work and then have class until 10 at night. It is also supposed to be a terrential downpour in the northeast on monday. We are going to dinner tonight and then I told him I want to see that movie "Baby Mama." I think it will be especially funny for us since we are pregnant! Talk to you all soon!

Hello everyone,

Its been a while since I posted. Just been super busy at work and I walk so much at work it gives me back pain every night. All I want to do is just eat and sleep when I get home. Anyways, we found out we are having a BOY!!! I was so shocked, I was so sure it was going to be a girl, but whatever it is, it's exciting.

I think I'm starting to feel him move inside. It feels like some rumbling and tugging on the uterus. I'm pretty sure its not gas anymore. It happens randomly not just in the night.

I'm glad to hear everyone is doing good. I think most of us have crossed the 20 week limit, so we are technically half way through. I've gained almost 20lbs. I'm 5'9" and I was 127 pre-pregnancy. I'm 147 right now, it's fun, I've never weighed this much ever before.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and I promise to write more next week.
