Question...can someone tell me what a "blast" is? I haven't heard that term before and don't understand... Thanks!

ajdec - congrats on all the follies. You are starting out really well. a "blast" is a growing stage of the egg. If I have this straight a fertilize egg is considered an embie on day 3 then after a certain amount of developing cells it is a morula(sp) usually that is day 4 and then day 5 as they are considered blast. I know there is more to it they have to reach a certain stage of growth. This growth normally is reach in 5 days but if it is a slow gorwing egg then it could still be a morula on day 5. Hope this helps. I didn't know any of this before hanging out on the boards. Good luck.

hey ladies- chris- i'm sooo not religious either..but i believe in 'something' and i just started to call it 'god'...so writing to him/it/ her(?) was weird for me too.. i got the idea from the book 'eat.love,pray'. i found the first few chapters so relatable (she's falling apart) and she writes to god on the advice of her girlfriend. it's an awesome book..

and 'blast' also is short for 'blastocyst' if you wanna look it up adjec.

ciao for now! karen

Please let me know if I have missed anyone or any info. I know I probably have. Anyone can update the chart or if you don't feel comfortable doing that just post or message me what you want to be updated. Also I don't have a lot of info on most so once you begin BCP's /lupron start stimming etc, either update the chart or post what needs to be changed. Thanks.

Chris - I believe the doctor said I would be on BCPs for a week or two, but I am not sure. I get so confused by all of it, I just didnt know how it worked. I guess I will just have to be patient and see what the doctor tells me is my protocal.

Ladies I cant believe it is already Oct and some of us are on our way already with meds.

NY4thtry - Yeah you will be starting stims right around the corner. I have updated the chart. So how is the antibotic treatment? How much longer do you have on that?

Foreverlove - Once you get AF this month your RE should send you a schedule. That should help you out a bit. Don't worry you will figure it all out, there are a lot of steps and once you get to one step you will figure out the next. Looks like your first step is to get AF and then you will know more after that.

Hope everyone is having a good day. I just couldn't make it into work today. Felt like I really needed a day off. Don't know why, I have vacation starting next week but just couldn't make it till then. So I am going to relax some, run some errands and maybe do a little shopping.

Good Morning Ladies:

I am new to this thread, so I would like to introduce myself. My name is Elida, I am from NYC. I am now starting my 2nd IVF cycle with a 21 yr old donor, Our ER should be around the 27th of Oct. Our 1st cycle was horrible. I was on 750 iu of Gonal F and only produced 4 follies. 2 fertiilized and none made it past 3rd day. I have a genetic factor also that calls for PGD testing, so with the odds are stacked up against us. We decided to ask a friend of my daughters if she would help us, she was more then happy. So our Journey is now starting again.

Some of the names on here I find familar from the Aug thread. I know that this thread is going to have many BFP's we all just need to keep the hope alive and have faith in what we feel is our destiny.

I look forward to getting to know all of youo much better through out this amazing process.

Much baby dust

Hi ladies-

Chris I just read your first entry and it sound just like my story...except that I'll be having my first IVF Oct/Nov. I've been ttc for over 3 years, unexplained IF, on Clomid for 5 cycles with IUI, then 3 cycles FSH injections with IUI. Obviously all BFN or I wouldn't be trying IVF.

So DH and I just met with doctor last night to discuss starting IVF. I expect AF around Oct 20-ish. At that point that said I'll get on birth control and they want to do a saline ultrasound to check the uterus. Has anyone on here ever done that? is it painful?

Then we'll start with Gonal-F 225 with monitoring every other day. I was nervous to hear about risks such as hyperstimulation, ovary twisting which would lead to a loss of the ovary, and puncturing the bowels during ER (though my clinic said its never happened to them). But I figure if I don't try it I'll be in the same boat forever - with no baby. So in a couple of weeks I'm ready for lift off. I'm definitely nervous. And excited. And I hope to check this thread throughout my cycle.

Good luck to everyone.

Much Hope --- YEAH, I am so glad to see you hear. I can't wait till you get your BFP with those 21 year old eggs. That is so nice that your daughters friend is helping.

not hopeless yet - Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have a good start having already gone through the injectibles. I think that is the worst part of IVF is the u/s, b/w and all the shots. ER and ET to me were a breeze. Yes there is a chance of hyperstimulation and twisting of the ovaries but as long as you take it easy while stimming and in your 2ww you shouldn't have a problem with ovaries twisting. And if you Re monitors you E2 levels well then you shouldn't get hyperstimulated. The saline ultrasound is no big deal. Have you done the test where they use the blue dye? It is kind of like that. Maybe a little cramping. Wishing you the best of luck.

Ny4thtry - Congrats on finally getting the IV out, I am sure you are glad to be done with that.

Well, I had to go shopping today and get a present for my cousins 1 year old. Usually I don't get too bothered by all the baby stuff at the store but I was walking past the strollers and bouners and I was about ready to ball my eyes out. I am not that type of person to get all tearied eye at baby stuff. I think I am losing it. Come on AF so I can get started again.

Oh Chris-
Sorry to hear you're having a rough day. Believe me, I've been there because all my friends and coworkers are having babies. At first I would attend their showers but now I avoid it all together because shopping, attending the shower, and visiting the baby are too much. I can't keep it together lately either. But I'm going to keep moving forward.

It was a relief to hear that you think ER and ET are a breeze compared to the shots. I hate shots but my dh has no problem giving them to me. Yes, the bloodwork and ultrasound are a pain in the butt. And I know my doctor will monitor for any hyperstim. Plus I usually bike 4 mi/day/4 days a week & walk 3mi/day/5 times a week but I will cut out the biking during stims and 2ww.

Baby Names

Post by JennLB25 »

It is exhausting worrying about the steps of IVF and the infertility process.

So, something fun, how many of you have had your baby names picked out for years?

Me and DH picked ours the 1st week we dated. We just happened to be in a grocery story checking out and they had one of those little $1.00 books with baby names. Be bought it and picked our names out immediately. We just knew we were meant to be together. We got married 1-1/2 years after our first date.

The names we picked were:

Boy: Alexander Cameron or Isaac Alexander

Girl: Kaitlyn Lacey or Alexis Janelle

But after talking with my DH's grandmother when she was alive, we dicussed naming a girl after her. The look of emotion and excitement she had, makes us think we may name a girl after her. She was 100% Italian and her name was Giovanna. So the name we are considering is Giovanna Gabrielle.

My DH says not to think about names yet cause we aren't even pg, but you have to have some hope, right? Without hope, this whole process would be just too hard to cope with.

So, if you are not uncomfortable sharing names, let's share. I don't mind if someone would like to use the names I've picked.

not hopeless yet - I just had that test done less than a week ago. It didn't hurt at all. There was a tiny pinch/cramp-like a pap. Anyway, this is where they look for polyps and fibroids and wouldn't you know it, I had two. They either are the remains of my deceased twins' placentas or a endometrial skin tag type of tumor, hopefully not cancerous. I have surgery scheduled for October 13th, which might as well be October 13th 2017 because it seems like forever.

I sorta went off on the surgery scheduler because I told her they had to get me in earlier, I had been waiting for two years. Can you believe she actually thought I had only been waiting for 4 days? HA!

Anyway, I am on bc pills and was supposed to start stims on 9-29, obviously not the case. I do have a question for you ladies, for those that have been through numerous other treatments to get to this point, how did you respond? I was on clomid 50 mg and got 1-2 eggs, then clomid 100mg and got 3-4 eggs per cycle. My right ovary is the size of a tennis ball, it isn't shrinking down quickly at all...they said it would once my HCG returned to zero but it has been at zero for three weeks...URG!

Is there any way to know if your eggs are still good also?
