Hi everyone! Lyly14, that is such a pisser! Ridiculous you have to wait until TUESDAY! Our lines froze to our washer, so now we have to keep an oil heater plugged in behind the washer, next to the wall, so we (make that I) can do the laundry!! AND I can't wait to hear about your appointment either!!

Yeah, Marina, how are you feeling??

AFM: I saw the GI doc on Thursday last week and he scheduled a full colonoscopy for this Friday- YIPPEEEE. :( I fear we won't even be able to make our 1st attempt at IUI until March.

QUESTION for everyone: DH and I are bikers (he mountain bikes, I road ride).... I am wondering, since we'll be attempting IUI, due to his LOW morphology~ don't you think it would be OK for him to go ahead and ride our recumbent bike or even do a spinning class once a week? I mean, even if it is the reason why his morphology is so low, we're going to be separating out his good swimmers anyways, so why not go ahead and ride, right???

Any and all comments are appreciated :)

Not pregnant yet,
Nicole

Quick Update

Post by melmar »

Hi girls! Glad to see that everyone is doing well...well, minus some of you that are cold(hehe Lyly-hope they fixed your pipes! My brother just had his pipes freeze the other night-he was out there all night trying to fix it before they burst.)

I am really sorry I don't get to write very much these days. I am always checking in, but I find my time at a minimum lately. As it is, I should be writing about three different tests for the kids right now that I am blowing off for another hour or so.

Here is my brief update. We went in for our CVS two weeks ago and before we did it-we did a check on the babies. Babies A & B were good, and suprise to us-Baby C's intenstines seemed to be getting better(not completely inside, but better than it was) and the nuclea fold behind the head was now within the "normal" range. So we decided that we would do the CVS on all three (originally I had planned only to do it on A & B-because we were going to reduce C the next week because of what we saw in the first u/s).

Well, they could only get to Babies B & C for the CVS b/c A was in a bad positition. Results are back and B & C are "healthy". B is a girl and C is a boy. We have no idea what to do now-we were scheduled to reduce this Thursday on Baby C-but with the results-have decided to go in for another u/s to see where we stand on the intenstines and to do an ammnio on Baby A. Once we have all that information my DH and I will decide what to do.

I do not want to keep this going on for much longer. It is mentally draining. I just want to do what is right for these babies. I had no problem reducing when there was something wrong with the baby, but if nothing is wrong, I feel like that poor baby is trying to show us he is a fighter...oh well, only time will tell...

Best to everyone,
Melissa

Melissa, Oh man, I cannot imagine what you are going through. Trust that you are in my thoughts though & I cannot wait to hear how your next appointment goes. So many hoops to jump through. A simple amnio is enough to send me over the edge. You must be a very strong woman....

much love!

hi guys
Jamie-good news on your test! :)

Nicole, glad you are doing that colonascopy.I know the prep part is not fun,but the procedure itself not that bad-my dad just had it done.I thought it was opposite  Good luck!

Lyly,so sorry about your pipes and your cold!Gosh,I live in Minnesota and we had -15 almost every day for the past week,so today was only 20 F-feels like spring,I've seen some people in shorts  Can't even imagine being sick and have a freezing cold house!I hope they fix it for you tomorrow. And let us know about your appt tomorrow!

Melissa, what a journey!I don't even know what to say :? The good thing is-you know two babies are fine and even know the sex! so you don't have to worry about that part. But what about baby A? If you wait for amnio to find out ,it's too late to do anything, isn't it?Yeah,I can imagine how stressed you are...

AFM-I'm fine, had an appt today,my spotting stopped last week, got to look at the babies, they are very active and doing good.No worries at this time.Next time we hope to find out the sex of the babies,if they'll cooperate(I will be 16 weeks),but they don't promise. At least I'll pass the 16 weeks mark which will easy my mind a little.
I bought my first maternity pants :) ,I definetely look preggo and feel preggo.Still have no energy, trying to stay away from malls, crowds and stores and try not to get a cold or something worse ,I didn't do flu shot this time.Trying to make it through the winter.Reading a lot of books on twin pregnancy, trying not to get too scared

Hi girls- My pipes are all unfrozen except the ones for the laundry. I thought is was nice to have and excuse not to do the laundry but this is rediculous, especially being sick. I know this is gross but every time I cough or sneeze I end of wetting myself. So now I NEED to do my laundry somehow. I think I may just put a bag together and have dh drop it off at the place up the road. They are great they wash dry and fold and its not too expensive. Anyway, I went to see the ob today. He is so great. I now have a u/s appt for thurs. I am hoping to see if the baby is a boy or a girl ( I will be 16 wks 6 days so fingers crossed). If not I have another appt Feb 17 with th ob and also another u/s for an anatomy scan. I am still losing weight, so the ob said I have one month before he will be really concerned, unless the u/s on thurs doesn't show enough growth. I just don't understand how I can be losing weight. I mean I could see not gaining but actually losing? It is crazy. I gained so much weight with my dd, then again I was super skinny when I got pg with her. Oh well as long as the baby is healthy that is all that matter.

Melissa- I am happy to hear the results of the cvs but that sorry you now have to struggle with the decision to reduce. It is hard when you think one way and then find out it is not what you think. Do they think the intenstines will completely fix itself or will the baby need surgery to repair them? Keep us posted and good luck. You are in my thoughts.

Nicole- good luck with the GI thing, I know it is not fun.

Lyly, I am excited that you got your u/s. I hope the baby cooperates and you will know what you are having. At my 16 week scan the doctor would not tell me as he was not 100% sure because the baby was misbehaving and not cooperating!! At the 20 week scan they told me 100%.

Marina good for you staying away from crowds and malls etc. I definitely think the best thing to do is try not to get sick at all - I hope you manage to stay flu free. So far I have managed to keep healthy and had no illnesses.

Melissa I hope things will work out for you the way you want. What a roller-coaster ride you have had. I am sure things will work out the way they are supposed to. Tough decisions though.

Nicole hopefully they will get to the bottom of everything soon. I am sure you are sick of waiting and having tests etc. But lets hope the colonoscopy goes well and you get some answers.

I am doing OK. Nothing much to report. The days are ticking by. I am getting big but thats OK. I basically have 10 weeks to go before I have my C section. Hopefully the doctor will be able to tell me the exact date of that next time I see her.

Take care everyone and I look forward to your scan update Lyly.

Girls,
Sorry I haven't been on at all. I had a flare up with my Crohn's. I knew it would happen once the boys were born and out of me. I had to go to the ER on Sat. and didn't come home until last night. I missed the boys so badly and cried more than I can say. I had awful fevers and some stomach pain and lots of dehydration. Needless to say I stopped pumping. :( However, Pumping for 5 months with twins, working for weeks at a time and everything else considered, I am proud of myself. I had an ileoscopy (similar to a colonoscopy) this showed severe inflamation and I am now on prednisone. I have an appt with my GI tomorrow. (NICOLE...how weird is all of this?) Did you go to your appt? I know this is all kind of jumbled but just wanted to let all of you know what was up. The boys are doing well and thankfully Greg had lots of help when I was in the hospital. I am just so happy to be home. The boys went to the Pedi today and everything went well. Ben is 12 lb. 5 oz. and Paul is 13 lb. 4 oz. I can't believe how they are thiriving now that they are home.
love to you all and I will be on when I can. I really need some rest. xox

Wow,Lisa, that's scary! The good thing is it's sounds like you have people to help you with kids. and yes,it's so hard to believe they are 5 month old! It seems like just yesterday. So ,you said you stopped pumping-what happens now?Does milk just disappear or you have to do something?
I probably won't be able to do it at all with twins, considering my previous experience and the fact that I have no help except my DH,who is at work all day,and no time to eat all these calories to produce milk. But will see how it goes first.
I hope you feel better soon!

Hi girls- Sorry I have not posted in a few days I have just had a lot to take in. After having my u/s on thurs and told baby looks good, I got a very disturbing phone call on Friday. I had gone for the second set of blood work for the modified sequential screening on tues and got my results rather quickly. Despite the fact that the NT scan was normal and the first set of blood did not put me in the high risk group for downs, I am now told my chances of this baby having downs is 1 in 37 based on the both sets of blood work and my age (which is only 34). I am in total shock right now. All the other risks were negative so no trisomy 18 or anything like that but now I have to see the genetic couselor. I called friday afternoon and I am waiting for them to return my phone call. I don't see what the genetic counselor can tell me since downs is not a genetically inherited problem. I am so upset right now. I really don't want an amnio because of the m/c risk but had said I would consider one depending on the results of this screening. I honestly never thought I would be in this high of a risk for it so didn't think I would ever need an amnio. I am going to talk to my regular ob on Tues and see if my 20 week u/s would give me more insight as to whether or not I should really do the amnio or not. Ugg it is just one thing after another. I hope everyone else is ok. Sorry I am not doing any personals I am just not up to it tonight.

I am really sorry to hear that Lyly. Lets hope it is just a bit more drama you have to get through and nothing more. I had an amino because my triple test came back with elevated chances of downs however, my NT was totally within normal. I did a lot of research on the amino and really it comes down to who does it what the rate of miscarriage is. The standard stats are 1 in 200 but lots of doctors stats are more like 1/600 or 800 or even 1000. I think it really depends on the experience of the doctor.

The genetic counselor really just talks you through your results clearly and then goes through options - basically to have an amino or not.

Stay strong and try to see this as just one more hurdle you have to get over because as it stands with the results you have there is a far, far higher chance that the baby is fine than there is something wrong.

Thanks Jamie- I know that it is only a screening and cannot actually predict whether or not the baby has downs, but hearing there is such an elevated risk is concerning. The doctor tried to tell me that although there was a 1 in 37 chance the baby had downs there was still a 1 in 36 chance the baby was fine. It is just not really reassuring. I did do some research on the markers that put me in the high risk and found out some interesting info. They are the same markers that show increased risk for placental problems, intra uterine growth retardation, preeclampsia, and still born. All of which I am already at risk for and the reason I am high risk and on blood thinners. I am praying since my NT u/s looked good that maybe that has something to do with putting me in the high risk for downs. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember what stats where that they gave you for your chances of downs?

I was 1/150 but I know of two other people who were around 1/50 and everything turned out fine. I know it is scary and unsettling but you have to keep reminding yourself that your chances of everything being fine far out weigh your chances of there being something wrong.
