Hello ladies – this is just going to be a short update as I am a little stressed, hot, etc … I woke up this morning at 4:00am and I was a little worried because I was having some cramping but no spotting. It was strange because it was a little gassy as well. So, I took a stool softener to help and it relieved the gassy feeling for awhile but when I woke up again at 7:00am it was back and I was sore. I drank some water and took my morning meds and went to work. I was doing fine until lunch time when the slight cramping turned to pain. So I called my high risk OB and they said to call if my symptoms worsened (I do have a u/s this Thurs and a doc appoint on Mon). So finally I made it home and I became extremely worried because I couldn’t feel Gabriella move, so I did the kick challenge where I drank something sweet and laid on my left side and finally I felt her kicking and moving around. Ladies I tell you, this is just one stress after another. I now trying to calm my nerves and relax for the night.
I hope you ladies are having a better day than I am … I will catch up later.
Steph - Ok, so I agree that 1.5 pounds is fabulous...but um, no, I don't think you'd want to be delivering this early! What?! At least they are ahead of schedule, so that's wonderful. I have actually been told to drink at least eight 16oz glasses (or bottles) per day for twins. It helps stave off the contractions. It's not hard for me at all because I am an avid water drinker, but I could see how it would be for someone who's not. My sister can't drink water unless it has Splenda in it. If I DON'T drink a lot then I get UTIs. My days of 5 cokes a day ended when I got married
A friend of mine just had to deliver her baby last week at 26w5d and he was only 1lb 4oz, 12 inches (his placenta wasn't working properly so he wasn't growing). SOOOOO tiny, but such a little fighter. I think he'll be fine. Another friend has twins delivered at 31 1/2 weeks and she was a special needs preschool teacher before that. She said all of those kids were 21-24 weeks. All the ones after 24 weeks were fine by age 5. I love that, I think it's awesome, but I am shooting for 36-38 weeks myself! The bigger I can get these girls the better. But, I guess we all just have to take it day by day and pray things go well. Most of my twin mommy friends delivered between 35-38 weeks, so 35 sounds pretty darn good!
And yay in advance for the adoption tomorrow! You'll have to let us know how everything goes! The judges are usually super nice when you are at this point. Make sure to get a picture with him/her.
Claudia - Steph basically answered the BH question. My book just tells me that around week 20 (which we are in now), to try to monitor for contractions every day for an hour (this is my multiples book, but I'm sure it's the same for anyone if you feel the contractions). Lay on your side and press your fingers into your abdomen. Should feel soft. If it tightens, write down when it happens and for how long. If it's less than 4 an hour, you're golden. 4-5 just drink a couple of glasses of water, lay down and monitor another 30-60 min. 6 or more and and call your doctor (mine said to call her at 5 per hour). And of course, any bleeding, change in discharge, etc. I did it today and I had one that seemed like a partial contraction and another that was a full BH contraction, but that's it. I felt so much better afterwards knowing they weren't happening all the time.
Gi - HOLY COW!!! That is super, super scary. I am so glad baby girl is ok and you are as well!
Angela - I think we are all on high alert right now. Rest up friend. Do you have a home doppler? That has helped relieve my worries soooo many times!
AFM - Did I mention I get to do an early glucose test next week, and again at 28 weeks? JOY!!!
Hello ladies - For those of you who are renting a doppler, can you please post the site that you ordered it from. I thought since I have been getting weekly u/s that I would not need one but I think I want one now. When I woke up to take my shower this morning, I noticed my breasts aren't as sore as they normally are. Has this happended to you ladies who have reached 16 weeks? I have an u/s tomorrow so I will feel better once I see her!
Angela - I went to Amazon.com to get mine. I got the inexpensive Baby Sound one for $40 and it does what it needs to do. I have even found two of my friend's babies and they are not as far along as you. As for the breast... yes. I found that mine weren't as bad after just a few weeks of knowing I was pg. I can be a little tender here and there, but not like I was at first. I am sure your little girl is perfect, but I know how scary it must be for you after losing Ashley. I think all you need to do is get past that 21 week mark to feel more calm. I know that nothing will truly be "ok" until you have her in your arms. We are all here for you though so come to us anytime you need to. Think happy thoughts! If you really feel you need immediate reasurance, go to labor and delivery. You are far enough along to be seen by triage if your doc can't get you in. My hospital was so kind and understanding when I went in a worried mess because I couldn't feel Angelina moving.

Angela - I also bought mine off of Amazon for about $70. It's the Sonoline B 3mhz and works great. Also, yes, I have definitely gone through periods where my symptoms seem to lessen...I think it did happen around 16 weeks. Then new symptoms come a few days later (or I continue to put on weight) and I feel better, but my doppler during that time was so valuable.
Everyone got all teary eyed. I have a picture of Andrew too but his face was so red caused by his close to leaking face that he doesn't want me to post it. lol
Hope everyone is doing well and staying in the air conditioning!

Hey ladies - just checking in with my update following my scan and consultant appointment at the hospital today. The good news is that the placenta has now moved up and out of the way, so it's not in the way of a vaginal delivery. The bad news is that Zorba is still measuring biiiiiig - his/her head and femur are within normal upper limits but the abdomen is off the scale, even more so than at 20 weeks. The average baby weight should apparently be in the region of 1.5kg by this stage, and in fact Zorba is already at 2.058kg (4.5 lbs) - help! The first thing they want to do is for me to have a glucose tolerance test urgently, so that's been booked in for Friday morning. In addition, regardless of the results of that, they want to rescan me in 4 weeks and see what the baby weighs then. I'd always assumed that the issue for a natural delivery was the size of the head, but apparently it's also that if the head is normal proportions but the baby weighs a lot, the head may come through OK and then the body might get stuck. OMG... They said that the likelihood is that they will want to induce me at or before 40 weeks, possibly starting with a membrane sweep at week 39. Presumably, depending on the size of the baby at the next scan (when I'll be 35 weeks), we might also be talking about needing a C-section. Just when I'd started getting my head around coping with a 'normal' labour and delivery, it's all up in the air. Needless to say, I'm now a little scared, but trying to tell myself that we won't know any more until 4 weeks time and the next scan, so there's no point in getting terrified now.
Oh, and as if that wasn't enough scary information in one hit, there were traces of protein in my urine and my blood pressure was up (although that presumably might have been from the stress of talking about big babies and inducing labour!) so now they've got to keep an eye on me for signs of pre-eclampsia as well. It has really not been a good day...
Steph - love the belly pic, but I can definitely go one better in the competition for big stomachs! I must get around to taking an up to date picture and posting... Happy to hear that your appointment went well, and I'm over the moon for you, DH and Alex that the adoption is now official!! In relation to the previa, my placenta was low at 24 weeks and the tech told me today that 24 weeks is still early days and that it may well not move up for at least another few weeks after that, so fingers crossed that yours will move out of the way soon. And thank you for writing the 'memorium' passage on behalf of us all, it was absolutely beautiful and so touching.
babyluv - hope your OB app't went well today. What did they say about the Braxton Hicks? My understanding was that they happen from very early pregnancy, and aren't a problem (but that regular and painful ones could actually be proper contractions and not BH), but some women feel them and some don't (I still haven't felt any at 31 weeks, unless I'm not observant enough!).
katie - yay, you've started buying baby stuff! Isn't it exciting? Hahaha, you sound exactly the same as me, dragging DH around and insisting on looking at absolutely everything in the shop. Hey, it's our first baby, we're allowed to go a little nuts! So, bathroom finished, how's the office going? Isn't that the room which is going to become the nursery? p.s. For the list, my glucose test is this Friday 9th July and my next scan and consultant appointment is Wednesday 4th August.
gi - OMG I was shocked to read the story about your poor dog, was he badly injured? So happy that Kayla was looking good at your anatomy scan. Hope you can finally let yourself relax and enjoy the pregnancy now! Are you off to buy that gorgeous (pink and purple?) buggy you saw?
Angela - hope the cramping has stopped and your appointment goes well tomorrow. Around 16-18 weeks I had an awful lot of cramping, some of it very painful, and it turned out all to be completely normal so I'm hoping the same for you (the turning out to be normal part, not the really painful part!). Also, my boobs haven't been remotely tender or sore since about 17-18 weeks, so don't worry if that tails off for you while other people on the thread are still sore, these things can come and go and are different for everyone.
claudia - good luck for your appointment tomorrow, look forward to seeing a new belly pic!
Hope everyone else on the thread is doing OK.
I'm off to visit my parents tomorrow, then Friday I have the glucose tolerance test and after that we're away for a big family weekend in the country. I'm back late Sunday night, then off up to my parents again Monday to Tuesday, so I'll have limited opportunity to check in with you all until the middle of next week. I'll be thinking of you all as always though...

Ladies - Thank you so much ladies for providing the web sites and the advice. I ended up calling my OB early this morning because I just couldn't get it off of my and concentrate on work. They said that it is normal around this time to have some symptoms come and go as my body gets used to the hormone levels, which is similar to what you ladies told me. I will check out the web sites tomorrow or Friday.
Well, I am going to turn in for the night ... I will be with my manager tomorrow and this heat is absolutely exhausting. I will update everyone once I have my u/s tomorrow. Please God let Gabriella be healthy and moving around tomorrow.
Have a great night ladies!
Angela

This will be a quick one since I'm on DH's laptop in an empty room smelling of paint- yuk! Between the heat and humidity its going slower than I thought - even with the central air ( like a meat locker ) the darn paint doesnt want to dry fast enough to make me happy, plus I'm just tired of painting, sanding, spackling and having to be in painting clothes too. In other words I'm just a cranky tired female today! We got the bathroom done and it came out great ( went from sage green to warm sand color) but the office we're just got emptied, spackled some rough spots and sanded, and it took 2 entire coats of primer to erase Chris's poor color choice of his bachelor days ( deep merlot) yes' I've been dying to get that color gone for awhile! Tomorrow it will be a warm sandy color' but i dont see being done with that and the nusery before the weekend. Poor Chris gets a week off and I put him to work so hard So as much as I miss you girls, I figure i'll be in painting hell until sunday - yuk save me! Of course I'll quit complaining when its all done and pretty - well that plus when this heatwave subsides! so I'll be back to stalking this thread next week - ha ha
Steph - Oh I'm so happy for Alex! Bet she was so super thrilled today! Yay for being official!
Hazel- Oh honey I can imagine you're stressing alot, but you are so right dont drive yourself mad for the next few weeks, it wont make you get more info any sooner
And you surely dont need the extra strain. Try to think good thoughts, and what ever it takes to get Zorba safely in your arms will be worth it- xoxo
To all my girls, I miss you guys and have been thinking of you all- much love xoxoxo
