Well, I did consider the surrogate idea, but would not really comfortable with it not being my eggs or my womb. So at that point, we would go the adoption route! It could get awkward at family gathers and no one can really predict how they will feel in advance. KWIM?
Me: 44 severely reduced reserve
DH: 44 perfect
IVF 1: Feb 08 -BFP twins (lost one at 7 weeks, one at 13 weeks)
IVF 2: June 08 -BFN
IVF 3: September 08 -BFN
IVF 4: November 08 - Katherine Emma born 8/9/2009
Okay what about her being the surrogate and you doing staggered ivf with CGH. That is what i am doing but without the surrogate. I just hope that i have 1 or 2 normal eggs in 3 retrieval cycles. It s a lot of money. I am going to be heartbroken, mad and broke if it doesn't work.
Or there are now places that you split the cost of the donor cycles between 6 people. It is shared risk. If you don't not get any embryos out of one of the six cycles you get all your money back. I can't remember the name of the place that i heard of that was doing it. If you are interested let me know and i will try to get it for you.
M, this is the buddy group. If you will tell us more about yourself we will have an idea where you are coming from. I am a little familiar with you because i have read another of your posts but the other ladies may not have. So please post an intro here and start chatting away. If you have read through the other posts you will see that this group is diverse in there situation but are the same in the struggle to have a child at an suboptimal (to say the least) age.
Ask questions and we will try to help. Also, go to ivf connections it is free. It is a large site dedicated to ivf. There are many ladies over there and many different boards covering everything. However the 40's board is very slow. In addition go to haveababy.com. It is run but the SIRM centers and the doctor from the centers answer your questions on the discussion boards. You do not have to one of their patients. Also, you can set up a free phone consult with no obligation. The docs are all very nice and very fast to respond to any question you may have.
Sorry about your cycle. I know you are heart broken but i am glad you are not giving up.
There is another "Over 40" group on the general forum. I am 44.5 and getting ready to try a frozen cycle. We have 4 frozen eggs (not embies) left over from our IVF #2, which was not successful. Luckily for us, while waiting to proceed with this frozen cycle in 2006 I became pregnant naturally. Our son Andrew was born 2/28/07 and is 20 months old.
I would so like to have a sibling for Andrew so we decided to go for the frozen cycle. Last time I had an HSG x-ray procedure just prior to getting pregnant, so I am going to have this procedure again before attempting my frozen cycle. My RE said for whatever reason, this procedure does seem to increase pregnancy rates for the couple of cycles following the procedure. Since I have frozen eggs and not embies, we will have to see if any of our eggs survive the thaw, fertilize and make it to transfer. I know this is a long shot, but I feel like we should try.
Good luck to all,
Tammy

I don't know if it is appropriate for me to join this group or not, but I do relate with all of you women. I am 41 and 34 weeks pregnant from my second IVF attempt.
It is very scary in our age group to be going through this. As you all know, we don't have the odds that the younger women do. Not to mention, if you are willing to explore other options, such as adoption, the age factor is also present there, so for us it was how long do we try before exploring other options. We had decided, after our second try, we would start adoption while concurrently trying IVF number 3. Thankfully, we did not need to do any of this, but it is a lot to think about. We are blessed to have some insurance coverage. I am so sorry to those who have to endure not only the stress of all of the IVF but the financial aspects as well.
I will give you a little history. First IVF attempt, we did a traditional Lupron supression cycle. I got six eggs, only four mature and only two fertilized. They both made it to day three, one 6 cell and one four = BFN. Second cycle, my RE wanted to use a flare protocol to try to get more eggs. I also tried acupuncture for this cycle (what could it hurt, right?) Well, we got six eggs, but all were mature and five fertilized. On day three, we had three 8 cell and two 7 cell. Because of my advanced age, the RE wanted to transfer four, so we transferred all but one 7 cell. That one would be watched to see if it made it to blast, and if so, frozen. Well, thank God, we got our miracle and now we are getting close to having her here with us. It was not easy, even after the BFP. My mother, who lived with DH and myself, and was my best friend passed away suddenly when I was 8 weeks and I was terrified I would lose my little angel. Thank God again, we made it through.
I want you all to know I will be reading your posts and pulling for you every step of the way. You are all incredible women, to be going through this at all, for as we all know, infertility is incredibly hard. Not only the wanting, wishing and praying, but the actual up and down of shots, ultrasounds, retrievals and transfers is just exhausting. I wish you all the best wishes and baby dust.

Kris congrats to you!!!! You are most certainly welcome. You can be our inspiration. Seeing others successes are often the only thing that keeps people going through this daunting process. So thanks for joining us.
As for me i am out this cycles. I am just waiting for day 1 so i can fit in one last iui attempt before i go on BCP for my first ET in Jan.
Tammy that is amazing that you already had banked some eggs then you had your son naturally. Now you have siblings on ice. What a miracle. That never happens. I did see the other board but the thread was soooooooo long i wanted to start a new one. I hope nobody other there is mad about it. I just figured there were newbies like me that didn't have it in them to join such an est. group so i decided to do this.
Helen, only one more day until your beta. Sending sticky vibes and prayers to you. Let us know asap.
NY, how was your US today?
Elida, ER tomorrow or the next day. Pray that you get tons of healthy little eggs. KUP
Renee that super sucks that you can only try through ivf because your DH is away in the military. You are both sacrificing greatly for this country. Thank you.
Natasha did you see my post to lynniecat? I use to be on FF a pay to use site. Just before i left a lady had found out about a large clinic that was offering a package deal for DE/Dembies. You and 5 other people will share the eggs retrieved from 6 cycles. You are guaranteed a certain number of eggies/embies or your money is refunded. I think it was about $25K. If either of you are interested i will have one of my old friends from the site find out the name of the clinic. It was all the talk right before i left because it was such a good deal. It sounded like a no brainer.
Waving hello to you Lynniecat, Carolyn and M.
I think i got everybody. If not, i am sorry. I will check in later today and recheck my work. I will catch you then.
Is it ok if I join too? I'm not yet 40 but I feel like I am! Bit of a veteran at the ivf game, about to do cycle 6.
My history:
tubal issues - operation failed
ivf 1 october 2005 - positive - ectopic
fet 1 february 2006 - negative
other tube removed 2006
fet 2 late 2006 - negative
fet 3 march 2007 - positive - m/c at 9 weeks
ivf 2 feb 2008 - positive, twins - m/c at 12 weeks
various investigations - dh has minor genetic issue
I'm doing a standard day 21 long protocol starting down reg on the 11th nov. I am scared. Terrified to be honest. Don't know if I could cope with another m/c but equally do not want to stop trying to have a child.
anyhoo! Onwards! looking forward to getting to know you all - that is if you accept an almost-40 on board????
Yes you may join Lola. I am sorry you have gone through so much. Have you been through immunological testing? It may not be your eggs but you. Your eggs should still be pretty good. I know many docs poopoo the idea but the ones that don't have gotten women pregnant and kept them that way when nobody else could.
You are not 42 plus like me so you could delay this a month and have that checked out if you haven't already. Just a thought. You will find that i think multiple minds are better than one. If you have not already, i think you should go to haveababy.com and post questions to the doctors in all the regions as to why you have so many m/c. It doesn't matter if you are their patient are not. You have to sign up to post. No biggie.
Also, if you want, you can set up a free consult with no obligation a doc in which ever region you pic. I would go to ivf connections. Also free to join. Go to ivf by location and ask women in the state you are nearest to to recommend which SIRM doc they recommend and set up a consult with that doc.
Like i said, just a thought. I find it hard to believe that given your age at the time of pregnancy all those losses are do to genetic abnormalities. I think something else may be at play. You will also find that i know just enough to be dangerous.
Kelly: Yes, I had 12 eggs retrieved during my last IVF. We used 8 of the eggs and had 4 left to freeze. I wish that I had saved 6 instead of only 4, as they have to survive the thaw, fertilize and then make it to transfer. But I keep telling myself that Andrew's egg was a few months older than the eggs that are frozen and he came from just one egg. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm just waiting for AF. Then I am to call my clinic and they will see if they can get this frozen cycle in before they close for the Christmas break.
Renee: I'm sorry that you cannot try naturally. I got married at 40 and we immediately started trying. After 1 year of TTC, we began the fertility treatments. I agree with Kelly, as we all have our military families to be thankful for our freedom. We appreciate your sacrifice. I assume that you have your husband's sperm frozen.
Regards,
Tammy

It is so nice to see so many wonderful ladies over 40 ready to share this journey..
I have some news. my donor had her US today, we have 24 follies. RE said at ER we should have between 15 and 20 mature... My lining is at 17mm and he said it is a beautiful lining and perfect to have those healthy embies snuggle in for their nap until next Summer...
Looks like ER will be Saturday Morning and sent off for PGD by Monday afternoon then ET either Wed or Thursday on day 5...
I know that this cycle is going to be wonderful for all of us, I have such a sense of faith.
Now lets bring on the BFP's for this thread!!
