Hi Karen, its good to know someone else is going for it again. I'm down regging at the moment. I'm in France so the treatments a bit different here and a lot cheaper. The first time, I had to travel to Bordeaux - a 2hr trip one way, but since then the authorities have allowed private clinics to carry out icsi/ivf so we are going to la rochelle, just an hour away which makes a big difference.
How old is Ben ? Where are you ?

Hi Wendy
We had our treatment at Guys in London, however we live in Rainham in Kent. Its around 1 1/2 hours drive...depending on the traffic. We had started the treatment when we were living in London, & decided to stay with Guys for the following treatments as they knew us.

Hello Everyone,
Well I am one of the new moms and seem to be doing ok. A little worried about Alex at times because he is on 6oz of milk and doesn't seem to want it. He is drinking between 3oz and 4oz which is a drop when your used to him drinking his 6oz. I have just changed his teat to his bottles he was using number 1 which is for newborn but I have just changed it to number 2 and he drank 5 and half ounces so maybe this will help.
How is everyone else doing?
It is natural I guess to worry about everything.

your worry about everything for ages..but after a while everything seems to slot in and your into a good routine which suits both of you.
so how are you finding parenthood??
yeah i agree with moving up on the teats as they et older..have you tried the avent variable ones?? they have slow medium and fast all on 1 teat..i use them for jack...if hes going to bed i slow down the milk flow and he soon drops off on it.
i hope your doing ok,
us mums should try and meet up .

Hi girls
First time I've logged on for ages - it's great to hear from oldies that are now mums. Does it seem a long time ago now that you were going through treatment? it does to me.
My twin boys (Max and Harvey) are 5 months old now - where has the time gone! The last few weeks their weight has really slowed down so we've been advised to start weaning them - they just love baby rice (tastes like wallpaper paste to me!). We're due to start on veg tomorrow - how exciting. Little Harvey still only weighs about 9.5lbs so hopefully this'll fatten him up a bit. I've also introduced a bottle of formula for their afternoon feed (rather than breastfeed). How do the variable teats work then?!
Other than that, they're keeping me very busy with lots of smiles and "talking". Where has the time gone??

Like everyone else, I don't find the time to come on here much now. Where does all the time go? Daniel's doing fine - he's now about 12 lbs 8 oz and is only 7 weeks old today!! He's started to almost sleep through the night, which is wonderful and only wakes up once for a feed.
I'm enjoying every minute of it and still cannot believe that he's finally here!

Congrats on your little Sam - one of my all time favourite names!!
My boys were 6 weeks early and Harvey was really small too! Definitely expect delays because of his prem. I found it quite difficult for the first 2 or 3 months as people talk about a smile at 6 weeks and we were almost 12 weeks! I find now that they're older (all of 5 months! ) it doesn't matter so much that they are slightly behind what's expected for their age. When you have tired days you really need to remind yourself that he will get there and it won't take long! Just don't worry that he's not doing what the books say - prematurity really does make a difference and you really do need to add however early he was to his development!
I always think how lucky we've been to have had them in our lives for an extra 6 weeks !!!!!!

Hello strangers,
Talk about an oldie my two are now 22 months (11 weeks early) so totally understand the prem thing...but we are now at the stage when it doesn't mattter anymore...apart from the fact that Rebecca is normal size and Ross is tiny!!! He is only now wearing 9-12 month clothes.
I can't believe there was ever a time when these two weren't with me. They are talking...walking....climbing...and best of all they climb all over you for Kisses and cuddles. They are their own little people now and I couldn't be a more proud mum.
I haven't posted for ages and don't get on the site so much now...but there is still such a mix of joy and sadness that it is great to pop back when you need some inspiration.
My only regret was panicking too much about their development in the first few months as you won't believe how quickly they grow and before you know it you are starting to try and reason with them!!!! (still not mastered that one!!)
Anyway just wanted to say Hi and lovely to hear all your news...we have quite a little brood here!!

Well I never get much chance to come online these days as you know Alex keeps me busy. He is taking 6oz in his bottles now and moving up on the teats was the best thing. How do those variable flow teats work then? I have been looking at them but not so sure about buying any. He had his bottle at 07:00 this morning but only drank 2oz and he is due again at 11:00 but at the end of the day I can't force him to drink it can I? The time does seem to be going quick now I have got into a rountine and now I have had the all clear from my GP I will now be able to drive. Can't believe Alex is 6wks today and its just lovely to see him smile and chuckle.
How is everyone else doing?

Thanks Helen, I kinda guessed that's what the answer would be which is why we've bought no books on development to stress us out - he'll do things at his own pace anyway and like you, I'm so happy he's here. Every time I look at him, I poke dh and say how I can't believe we have a baby after so long.
The good news - he PASSED his hearing test in the right ear. What a relief as there is problems in Steve's side of the family. Mind you, I had convined myself it was male selective hearing starting early. LOL
I love the names Max and Harvey, especially the latter - they sound such friendly and fun names!!!
Nicky - I look forward to the clambering over me stage, BUT not wishing his life away yet, and am just enjoying him at the moment!!!
Shell - 6 weeks - OMG hasn't the time flown. Sam will also be 6 weeks on Thursday. Don't worry about Alex only taking a little milk this morning - he'll feed when he's hungry - Sam seems to have patterns too, and when I know he's on for longer than usual, he just throws some back up the greedy beggar

Well its just gone 05:30 and I have just fed Alex, he went to bed at 23:00 and woke at 04:45 for a bottle so I can't complain. He's gone back to sleep now, I am going back to bed as well for an hour and then I will get up but thought I would come online and just check out what's been going on.
Well Alex is up and down with his feeds atm, today is day 4 which he asn't had a poo so I guess this is why he isn't drinking his milk because his poor little tummy is full. I am going to phone the health visitor today because he can't go on like this. I have tried cooled down boiled water/oj with water/sugar water and nothing is doing the trick. Its just so frustrating because Alex isn't himself and not drinking his 6oz bottles.
Does anyone know how much milk approx a baby should be drinking a day? He is 7wks old today?
Zoe - How you doing? How is Sam? I am so glad that he passed his hearing test, everything is a worry and I guess the worry just never stops. Did you have a nice Mother's Day?
Anyway I am back off to bed for a couple of hours, he is next due is feed at 08:45 speak to you all soon.

So she suggested that I make up bottles of both second and first milk and alternate his feeds. The first milk is designed to be like breast milk so thats why they are able to poo easily while on that, but the balance in the second milk is different and so can cause constipation. Anyway it worked for us, and then when they're a little older their bowel becomes more able to cope with the second milk alone.
I can't think how many ounces Dan was on at 7 weeks, but don't get too hung up on other babies, as they're all so different. There's a guide on the formula box, but Dan always varied slightly from it, so again don't worry too much.
You'll probably have this again once you're weaning him too!
