Welcome SHELLIE

Good to see another on board - it appears we are all newbies as such so we are a bit in the dark - with my last treatment (which was cancelled) I didn't have any symptons with my sniffing but then all bodies react differently - if you have any concerns then my advice would be to ask the pro's - that's what they are there for  Now looks you may be first of us for e/t.

BRONAGH - not another week - you poor love - you shall definitely deserve a break (mind you - it brings us all closer together for our e/t) HOPEFULLY

LOTTI - I have a scan to check my body is regulated by the contraceptive pill before starting to sniff so you may be different as no pill for you.

Well girls, off to hospital in the morning to see if I can start sniffing - wish me luck!!

Love to all - have to go as very busy at work

Nickie

Hi girls,

I have a scan tomorrow morning to see whether I am ready for the stim injections. I am a bit confused though, Bron, you mentioned having a blood test. Is there two different ways to see if your ready for stim? They didn't mention anything about a blood test to me. The discomfort seems to have passed now so I am not sure what it was, although I still have slight headaches. A friend of mine said she gets headaches when she has her AF. As I did have AF last week for the first time in over 9 months I am gathering that is what the symptoms were from and I just couldn't remember what it was like.

Nikkie, did you have your scan today? Have you started sniffing?

Welcome Shellie
You will be fine honey, it is very daunting first time around, and I think because of the drugs you are more sensitive to any slight change that your body throws at you, I would imagine the uncomfortable feeling in your tummy is just the drugs doing their thing, and your ovaries reacting.

You ask about what you can do to help your body during the lead in to EC, well as Bron says acupuncture has a good write up, although quite expensive mine is £25 a session. Drinks loads and loads of water, you are off the booze so that is good, drink herbal tea, and cut coffee out (including decaf) altogether. I also take vitamins and minerals. Good luck for the scan tomorrow!

Nickie - good luck for tomorrow as well, let us know how the scan goes and if you can start sniffing!

Bron - can't believe you have to go another week, let's hope this time next week you are sniffing too!!!

Well girls, looks like we are all going to cycling around the same now, as I start to inject on Monday 3 May - huRRAH!

How did you go at the hospital today Nickie, can you start sniffing yet?
I hope everything went well for you.

I had my scan this morning and the lining was 1.7mm thick so I started my injections today. I can't believe it. My dh and I walked out to the car park and thought 'oh my god it is really happening now!'

Lotti if you start your injections on Monday when do they anticipate doing the egg retrieval? I think they said around 12 days, is it the same for you?

I am going away for the weekend and a lot of walking is on the cards. I've read some posts saying you shouldn't exercise. Is this true?

Hello Girls :D

Well, I am now on my sniffing - scan was fine on Wednesday - have to sniff till next Wednesday and then start my Menopaur (sp)! - fortunately for some reason this time round I don't have to have a scan to see if I have down regged enough, I just go straight onto injections on Wednesday 5th May - one less trip to London (Hoorah)!!

Anyway, I have decided to leave work for a few weeks after 9th May as I should be working nights and I can't cope with scans and appointments during the day as well as working nights - too much for me.

So as it stands at the mo, SHELLIE will be first for e/t and then myself, Lotti and Bron should all be very close together - a matter of days in fact.

Hi Ya girls

Well things are happening for us all now (well, apart from poor Bronagh who is still sniffing, but let's hope not for long now!)

Nickie - glad you are sniffing now, and hey on the stims on Wednesday - that's great! Was work okay with you "taking time out for a while" or have you just put in holiday? It's good of them if they have okay'd it for you - what do you do?

Bronagh - when do you go back to the doc's for a blood test, it must be soon?

Shellie - I did my first injection today (I chose injections instead of sniffing) and my first scan is in 15 days time, then I start the stims (puregon) the next day. Strange really, as last time I down reg'd for 24 days then started stims on 25th day, this time I down reg for 15 days, then start stims on 16th day, think i may check this out at the unit tomorrow, just to be sure they have all the dates correct. My EC is 1 June, when is yours again? With regards to walking (although it will be over with now!) I am sure this is fine, I think they just say that best avoid annything too strenuous (ie circuit training, bungey jumping, rock climbing!!).

PS - our thread is getting long, shall we creat a new one soon?

Hi girls, I hope you all had a good weekend.
I did do a lot of walking but nothing to strenuous.

Lotti, I am on track for EC on Monday 10th. I scan tomorrow to see how many follicles have started growing and I scan again on friday to measure the difference in follicle size. On Friday they make the decision as to whether the EC will be Monday.

Nikkie, I am taking 2 weeks off work as well. I start leave on EC day. My job is quite stressful and I didn't want to be able to use that as an excuse if I get a -ve. I will be taking it easy at home. Thankfully my employer recognizes IVF and gives special leave so I don't have to use annual leave for some of the time off.

I bought the Zita West book on friday. It makes for interesting reading. I think it is too late for me to start having acupuncture now but I wonder if I should start taking the vitamins or continue on as I am. One half of me thinks I should continue life as normal but the other half says to give anything a try. At the moment I have just given up alcohol, coffee, tea, baths and chocolate! God I miss chocolate. What is a good substitute!!!!!?!

I'm nervous that I will be the first to test but I'll try and start the MCB off to a good -ve start.

Hiya girls

Shellie
- I hope you meant a good +ve start otherwise we are all in trouble   . I am in the same boat as you with regard to stress in the workplace and I cannot bear to use that as an excuse either!

Lotti - I work for the police force in the control room so basically run the jobs on the radios - therefore a lot of stress and shiftwork - not good for ICSI treatment  They are very understanding and I managed ( for the most part) to go through my last treatment without taking too much time off but this time my scans are on nights so I can't manager to stay awake all day and night (a physical impossibility for me anyway)!

Bron - Hiya, what's your news - when can you start stimms?? Hopefully soon.

Well, last day of down regging today - looking forward to injections tomorrow (NOT).

Well, look forward to your updates,

Love

OH MY GOSH - BRON

Can't get my head around how long you have had to sniff? I only have to sniff for 7 days and then go straight onto stimms without them even checking me (why are our clinics SOOOOOOO different)???

I really cannot understand the different protocols and I'm wondering whether your clinic have actually got you on the right drug? I expect you have asked them all these questions, what have they answered? Do you have to sniff 3 times a day like the one I'm on? I'm on Supercur.

Take care and lets get you off this sniffer as soon as bloomin possible

Big hugs to you and your nostrils

I'm past obcessing..................for now.

Oops yes Nickie I meant off too a positive start!!
These drugs must be playing with my mind.

I feel for you Bron, I was on the sniffer for only 7 days before starting injections. A lot of that had to do with me being on the pill continuously for 8 months. I was pretty down regulated to start with - no AF for 8 months. Nickie were you on the pill before starting treatment. That maybe why you don't have to sniff for long.

Chin up Bron I hope you start stims soon.

I went for a scan this morning. I have been injecting 150 of Gonal-f for 5 days now. The scan showed I had 2 bigish follicles and 6 small follicles in my left overy and 6 very small follicles in my right ovary. They have up'd the injection dose to 225 because they say the follicles haven't grown enough. I thought that at this stage they just checked for the number of follicles and measured the size on friday for EC at the start of the next week. Can anyone confirm this? I am worried now that they won't grow to be of size to extract. What size should they be after 5 days stim? What dose is the norm? The nurse did say I was on a lower dose because I was young and they didn't want to overstimulate me.

I am worried now. I have tried not get my hopes up because I don't want to be heart broken but I think it is too late.

keep it up

Shellie, I cant help you with regards size but what i do know from reading these boards is that anything can happen in a week you still have time for them to grow , your just on the roller coaster. No matter what anyone says you cannot help but get your hopes up otherwise why would you start the treatment in the first place???

Try to visualise a positive out come you are doing all you can to make this work, we just have to trust the RE is doing the same.

Hi Girls!

Would you mind if I join the May Cycle Buddies?

I had my down reg injection yesterday so am on the road now! I don't have to go back until 2nd June though for scan and check if ready for stims.. This seems like quite a while to me for a standard check? I thought down reg scan check was about 2-3 weeks, and was supposed to go back on the 31st, but think am unlucky as my dates fell on both May bank hols - typical!!

Anyway - loads of luck to you May Cyclers!!
Hope you don't mind me joining in!
