I agree with your nurse - I think if you don't have a treat now and then we would all go mad :?

This treatment is so stressful and takes over your whole life that I think being indulgent now and then is very, very important.

Happy reading :!:

Book Review
Well the book came yesterday, so I sat with a cuppa (decaff of course) and devoured it. One thing to remember is that the book is dedicated to preganacy and conception so the IVF bit is a chapter (rather large) at the end. That said I wish I'd got it 2 1/2 years ago cos it gives some really interesting info - a sperm only swims 2mm an hour (DH was amazed by this one :) ).

Once you get past the cheezy pics theres some really useful info in there and I found it gave me more info on stuff than the hospital did. The relevance of FSH levels, more detail on what the drugs do, what a long and short protocol is etc. The advice is good too but I think if you followed it all without taking a pinch of salt you may get a bit obsessive about the whole thing. I'm on the page of make realistic changes to stuff but don't become totally neurotic about the odd cup of caffeinated coffee
or wine.

The book does link Chinese and western approaches to IVF and again that is very interesting. Especially the stuff about acupuncture - seeing as I have a weekly treament.

Overall I think for just over a tenner its a good purchase and useful for DH as well as me to read - its has some good tips around ec and et.

Hope this helps

Hi ladies,

Sorry I started a new post called "Zita West" without realising this one was already up and running.

Basically I too have ordered the book (from Amazon) which is being delivered tomorrow and whilst books are very useful its never a good as a cunsultation where you can ask questions specific to your case.

Eskavon - Would you consider visiting the clinic in London for the Pre-IVF Consultation? I also notice they do the acupuncture, something I would like to try. Would you recommend this?

Did everyone get enough information from the book to help them prepare for the treatment? GIven that everybody is different I thought I would need information more specific to my health/fitness levels which is why I'm considering a consultation and nutrition review.

Will be great to hear you comments.

Thanks girls LOS xxx

Hi Los
I think the Zita West book is useful but I'm afraid a trip to the clinic in London isn't an option for me (not this time anyway). This is my first time through ivf and I've found the support from my local hospital very useful. Although this may sound naive I'm not sure what the Zita clinic in london could tell me more than the hospital has already. I guess you must live within easy travelling distance of london so maybe its worth a try for you.

As far as acupucture goes, for me it works (relaxing). And this is a person who's very needle phobic (see my posts on March/April buddies !! ). The guy I'm seeing is registered with the British Acupucture Society and is really good. His clientel of ladies undergoing IVF has grown massively over the past year. He recommends starting acupucture a good month before you start treament. But at the end of the day its what works for you and what you feel comfortable with.

Hope this has helped

I have read the Zita West Book and some of it I found quite confusing till I re-read it the 2nd time. Not sure if you found the same thing - once I read it again it all made perfect sense though

Eskavon - I found the info from the hospital really helpful too, am off for my first acunpuncture appt tomorrow (was supposed to be today but had to change it to tomorrow...), I read your earlier post about him saying start a month before tmt so not sure if I am jumping the gun a bit as don't start till till mid May (and that's taking the pill!), anyway will see what he says tomorrow and thanks again for passing on his details!

Hope everyone is ok, just wishing the weather would brighten up a bit!

Hi Joanne
Hope it goes well tomorrow, I started seeing him at begining of March and my ec isn't scheduled till 9th May but I was on the pill ages before starting the injections last week.
I'm there too today for normal appt, its going well and not sure whether its stopping side efefcts from drugs cos so far just have had hot flushes (pleasantly surpised!)
I know what you mean about Zita, I just think read it with a pinch of salt myself, theres some really good advice and some eccentric stuff - at one point it says to surround yourself with the colour orange :? I'm a bit of a sceptic so I can't see that workin for me - but it may do it for others.
Anyway good luck for tonight

Hi

Appointment went really well, he was really good and I came out feeling really positive!

He asked me how I had heard about his clinic so when I told him he said you had been there earlier in the day!!!!

Thanks once again for the number I really appreciate it

RE: Zita West - I honestly think if I did everything in that book I would become totally obsessive about everything, so am just taking on board the most "sensible" things and seeing how that goes. My mum got a book out of the library by Nikki Bradford called Natural Fertility - it's all about vits etc which is good but then it talks about Feng Shui (is that how you spell it?!?! ) and if your house is on a main road it's not good and take out pointed objects of furniture in your bedroom and replace with pink or red flowers!!! My DH just laughed and said that WAS becoming a bit OTT!!!

How is your tmt coming along - when do you start with the injections?

Hi Joanne
So pleased it went well on friday, I did mention to keith that I thougth you were coming in. My session went fine this week - he left me a while and I nearly went to sleep !
I know what you mean about these books, there is some good stuff in but also some really funny stuff.
As far as trmt is going I'm on burselin injections (dh is doing them for me!) and stopped pill on friday so waiting for AF before bloods and scan and starting on purgeon injections.
Am I right in thinking that you start trmt in June?
Hope all is well with you

Hi Eskavon

I was due to start taking the pill in may but cos of my mega late AF this month (after tmt my periods seem to go haywire!) it looks like it will be the beginning of June which means all being well EC will be end June beginning July.

Have already decided to have 2ww off in the hope that the sun is shining and I can spend most of it sat in the garden reading books and relaxing (in between trips to see Keith of course!)

I think I read somewhere your AF has turned up - have you had scan - is all ok to start with your stimms??

Hope you are keeping ok

Joanne :)

Hi Joanne
Yes you read right AF did arrive yersterday (with avengance!) I've got to call on Thursday and see whether they'll scan on Friday or Monday. Hopefully it'll be friday because I'm not the most patient !
Glad to hear you've got some dates to aim for too - I don't blame you taking the 2ww off work - wish I could, I do plan on taking some sick leave but part of me thinks I'll be better off with something to think about at work. Having been through this stuff before what do you think?
Hope the sessions with Keith go well
Take care

Fingers crossed for Friday then

I have some holidays left over from last years entitlement so just decided to take the 2 weeks off - I worked through the last 2ww and ended up having to go across to our office in Preston and then to Leeds the week after ET (when my little embies would have been implanting!), it was quite a stressful time so I decided just to chill out in the garden (DH is going to take 1 of the weeks off with me) and try and relax (yeah right like that will happen!)

Guess it all depends on you and your job - I work from home quite a bit and if I could have done the 2ww while working at home think I would have been ok but being called away was bad timing.

Just see how you go and if it all gets too much call in sick.....

And if you do get scan on Friday, GOOD LUCK with the blood tests - let's hope you don't get our lovely friend all the time
