Hi Nicki, well done to your DH. Just had to pop in and add my words of encouragement having been in a similar situation. DH was told that he had 0 sperm after submitting a sample to the GP, he had a biopsy and the urologist said that he had sertoli cell only syndrome and our only hope was to use a donor - he referred us to an IVF clinic who said that reading the results the sertoli cell affected 50% of one testicle and 95% of the other so there was some hope. They took a further sample and the outcome was 0. The did a pesa and the outcome was 0. Then a further sample revealed 3 little swimmers (oh how we cried). DH had another biopsy and the cells were frozen but he continued to attend at the clinic regularly to give samples, sometimes result was 0, sometimes 2 or 3 little swimmers which were frozen down. Went on to have our ICSI with donor on standby on the day but there were enough fresh swimmers to attempt to fertilise 9 eggs which gave us 2 really good embryos. Sorry to babble. I imagine you are feeling really confused at the moment and I wish you all the luck in the world with whatever you decide.

Nicola .. That's great news !!

I'm gonna quote from the Care literature in front of me :

The MERC Test

Many men supposedly with "no" sperm do have small numbers of sperm in the ejaculate after a special sperm preparation technique (the MERC test). A separate detailed info sheet is available from Care.

Overall, provided that a single motile sperm can be found, the chances of achieving fertilisation and pregnancy in cases of male-factor infertility are now the same as that of men with normal sperm.

JUDY'S DH: Hi! thanks for your message, this is my point it only takes one, so surely icsi could work for us, this has put a whole new view up.

donor or icsi??

i mean, we have just decided to go for 3rd DIUI, in NOV and now this.... my dh is happy to still go with donor but what if they failed for a reason, the last 2 Donor IUI'd failed because GOD does intend we have own babe!

OH I hate choice!

Carinaboo! Hi there!!! I think i will re-speak to my Doctor as i am confused too, I mean i did wonder this myself after i left the doctors.

1 sperm in the whole lot of sample produced? or 1 per unit of measure??

Also I am wondering why nil before, and now one?? where the prevous tests wrong?? Maybe some times he does produce more than 1?

So much on my mind right now??
