Hi Debz

Thanks for coming back to me. That is a relief but i agree with you that I will probably need time between cycles b4 embarking on treatment after treatment. You can probably tell that I havent had that appointment yet when the dr. tells you everything - that will happen in August. But can you tell me when you say "cycle" - what do you mean? I keep reading about people trying, failing and then starting a 2nd attempt but is the frozen egg try after try no. 1 not the second attempt? I dont seem to be able to find anyone on this site who mentions it. My understanding so far is that I take all the drugs, they remove my eggs and then, a few days later, insert the fresh, fertilised eggs (2 or 3) and then freeze any healthy ones left - if I have healthy ones left and the first attempt with fresh fails - do I still normally have about 6 months between the next attempt with the frozen ones - is this what you mean by 2nd cycle? Sorry to be so clueless but any help gratefully received as Im panicking abit now - thanks

Hi switzerland,
your not clueless...ok i will try to go through step by step let me know if you dont get any part of it ok....
cycle = a complete IVF start to finish
as for FET =frozen embryo transfere...some people are lucky enough to get some embrios left after a complete cycle to be able to freeze some for another try.....some people dont (i never have any left for FET)
as for the 6 months no you dont have to wait this long... normaly like me i have just had a fresh cycle failer...if i had frozen embies(embroyos) i would wait till i got my AF (aunt flow...period)then on the next period if normal (time and amount)i would start my drugs to produce a good womb lining for a good FET...
i waited 8 months because it was best for me i had to move house and my body hated the drugs so i wanted it fresh i needed to get my mind in the right place but thats all up to how you feel... its hard to know how an IVF cycle will affect you, i thought at first it would be easier than it has been...this time i will wait till september before doing another fresh cycle ...i want to meet with my DR (july)me and hubby are going on holiday first week in august then i will hopefully start my 3rd IVF on the next period end of august/early september

i hope this helps let me know if it doesnt...love and hugs debz

Thanks Debz

This really helps - at least I know now also that I might not produce enough eggs to have frozen ones - we will see - fingers crossed for our treatment and thanks again for your help - you are the only one that answers :D

Hi Switzerland!

I am having IVF in France so not too far from you! :D .
i did my first IVF abroad, had 3 embies put back but it did not work.
i did my 2nd cycle in France, and I was really surprise by the lack of explanation I was given. Thanks to this web site, all my questions are answered here! So my 2nd cycle did not work , as we had no fertilisation, so no embies to transfer.

I should start my 3rd IVF in august/september. I really hope we will have enough embies to transfer and if we can have some extra to freeze, it would be great. It means that if IVF 3 doesnt work, then you dont have to go through all the injections and egg collection. Normally, my clinic like to wait 3 months before cycles, so that your body recovers from all the meds. But some clinics wait only 1 month... So really it depends form one place to the other.

I hope you will get all the details you need when you will have your appointment in August.

Take care
Souris

Thanks Souris for your support and nice to hear from you - where are you in France - anywhere near the Geneva Swiss border ?!
Can you advise me also on what to do about going to the gym and things like caffeine and alcohol - when my period comes in August I have to start taking the Pill in prep. for my first IVF - should I cut out all these things?

Hi!

I am originally from Lyon, so not to far from Geneva, but I am now near Bordeaux, so not quite the same place!

I really think you can go to the gym until your treatment. But then you will have to take it easy while stimming (you might not feel like doing sport anyway) and then once the embies have been transfered, it is as if you are pregnant! So no heavy lifting, no running stretching etc...

Ok so this is MY view on alcohol: I truely believe the odd glass wont hurt you before treatment, I also believe that while stimming, it is also ok if you have a glass of wine or two. Then after the transfer, It is a no no as you have little embies inside you... Some people are a lot more strict than that, I guess it is up to you! SOme stop eating chocolate, which is impossible for me, and I dont really believe that chocolate can affect my fertility! I guess you just have to be reasonable about everything... Not ot drink loads of alcohol, not over do it on the chocolate etc...

IVF is a stressful time, and I do not want to add more stress on myself.
I did stop smoking few months ago. Anyway, i would have to stop if i get pregnant. I still have a cigarette from time to time.

I dont really know about caffeine... I dont drink any, so it is not a problem for me, but as I said, I dont think a coffee a day will harm you. As long as you dont drink 1 litre a day!

You should write down all the questions you want to ask for your appointment, I found that very helpfull.

Take care

Thanks Souris - this is really good to know and I am now going to try and just relax and enjoy the summer before the treatment starts. Its hard being here near Geneva as I live in such a small community it feels like everyone around me is pregnant - when I lived in London you dont notice it so much
