Hi Ladies and Rebecca

How clever of you Rebecca to know the sex of your embie already - 'she' has spend her inheritance getting conceived'!!!! Can you tell me what sex mine is please? You coulc make a fortune!!!

I have my u/s on Monday and am getting very nervous. I haven't had my beta done as I am 100 miles from the clinic and thought I would wait. I am now worried I might have an ectopic as I have had some nasty stabbing pains in my lower pelvic area. They have got worse today so this is my current paranoia! Guess I need at least one!

I don't feel as sick either so I'm sure that's a bad sign too. I am no fun to live with at the moment.

Hope everyone else is doing OK

Fiona-
Try and relax. Weird things are going on in your uterus at the moment, and the 'activity' could be pushing on a nerve. Just think, there is more likely a chance that all is just fine. I go in for my third beta tomorrow. Good luck to you and me!

Rebecca-
Glad to hear you are doing fine. Good luck with your upcoming ultrasound.

Good luck to all you pregnant ladies, and to those in the 2ww, may you all get your BFPs soon!

Fiona,
I'm hoping you get good news tomorrow. I think you'd be much sicker now with pain if it's an ectopic.
My sister has 2 girls, and I guess I just picture all babies in my mind as girls. But I'll go out on a limb and say that you're having either a little boy, or a little girl.

Help!!
Okay, my third beta came out fine, thank G-d - 5,418. However, my progesterone dropped from 55 to 48. I'm scared, since my sister had 2 miscarriages which they later discovered was because of hypothyroid triggered by pregnancy. The doctor says that he doubts I have anything to worry about. I'm so scared. I feel I'm on my own. Help!

Hi Shari,
I don't think you have anything to worry about either. Here's a link to a website with all kinds of lab values: http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormon ... ogesterone
Your progesterone seems to be right smack in the middle of normal and it only fell a few points. I've always heard that the suppositories go directly to the uterus and it's hard to get accurate labs -that's why some MD's prefer the shots. But success rates are about the same with both suppositories & shots. Remember, your body is also producing progesterone so you are getting double dosed right now. Your sister probably had levels that were half of yours.
As far as the hypothyroid, have they tested your thyroid level? If not just call your MD office & see if you can come in for a thyroid panel. I have hypothyroid too & it's very easily corrected.
Hang in there. I think you're probably better than fine & it sounds like your MD does too.

Thanks Rebecca,
First of all, thanks so much for your reassuring words.

I didn't really explain myself regarding the connection between thyroid and progesterone. The hypothyroid was undetected, and it threw her progesterone out of wack. Yes, her values were much lower than mine, even in her successful pregnancies. But, she wasn't taking suppositories. I nudged my IVF center, and they actually ended up conferring with the docs, and they're starting me on the shots as well, beginning tonight. You gotta be your own doc sometimes! Also, they have nooo time to talk to me. I understand they have lots of work, but I think when I'm on the phone, that is my time with them. They always sound in such a rush, and that makes me forget everything I want to ask. I hate being a nudge, but this is my little baby we're talking about!

Thanks so much again! How are you today? Hope you're well and taking it easy.

Shari,
not to pry,but have you had your thyroid checked? If not, it's really easy to get it checked & start on medicine if you need it.

Hi Shari

I am afraid I don't know anything about the condition you are describing but I can sympathise with you abot being so concerned at this point in your pregnancy. I think the first 12 weeks are as abad as the 2ww.

Good for you on nudging your clinic. A little bit of assertion is a good thing. No-one is going to be as concerned as you about your little one.

Hope you feel more relaxed soon.

Thanks, guys, for your support and concern.

Rebecca-
My thyroid was checked before I began IVF, and it was fine. My sis's thyroid problem was triggered by pregnancy, and I haven't had it checked since I became pregnant. I asked my doc for a prescription to check it (blood test), and he said there's no need. I wanted to anyway, but his 'no need' comment caused me not to push it. I am gonna talk to him tomorrow and insist a bit more assertively.

Later,
Shari

Shari,
With hypothyroid, your need for the replacement thyroid medicine increases with pregnancy. So for example if you take 100mcg of medicine not pregnant, your MD may increase your dose to 150mcg once you get pregnant. Some women are so borderline that they don't need medicine at all when they are not pregnant, but may need an extremely low dose when they are pregnant. Doesn't necessarily mean they aren't hypothyroid when they aren't pregnant, just a very mild case.
It sounds like with your family history you are very smart to ask for a thyroid panel, but I wouldn't worry too much because with the IVF and all the testing before hand most MD's will put you on a very small dose if there's even a question that you could be low. But again, if I were you I would want to be tested too and here why.
I found out that I have hypothyroid because my identical twin sister had a very thorough physical about 10 years ago where they tested her. She found out that even though she had virtually no symptoms her thyroid was barely working. The symptoms are usually cold sensitivity, weight gain, & lethargy. We are both thin, and at the time she was in training for a marathon, so it was very surprising. I knew if she had it, then I probably did too, so I got tested too. Sure enough, my thyroid wasn't working either. I can't tell any difference in how I feel before/after starting medication.
Anyway, good for you for being so proactive with your health care. That's how you have to be.

Rebecca-
Boy, today has been quite crazy! I came straight home, and my husband took the car keys and ran all over the country (disobeying traffic laws MAJORLY) so I could get my shot tonight. He made it, and I had my first gestan shot tonight, so feeling calmer. Also, my husband wrote a question re: my situation to an 'ask the expert' IVF website, and the doc wrote back that the numbers seem fine. My doc just called back, and I explained my concern again. He said "no problem" and so going to get a blood test prescription tomorrow morning. Phew!

Thanks so much for sharing your own story and for your advice. Sis and I are not identical twins, but I feel quite connected to her genetically, and didn't feel right not having it checked. Bless you!

Fiona,
Thanks for empathizing with me. I know you are going through your own 1st trimester stress. Hope you're feeling well and relaxed. I keep repeating to myself that is the most important thing. Be well.

Hey ladies,
Since I have all this extra progesterone in my system, I have pretty uncomfortable cramping. Is that a normal reaction to an increase in progesterone dosage? I'm thinking 'yes', but it's a bit unnerving. Also, quite nauseous and dizzy.

Hope all is well with you 2wwers and pregnant ladies :)

Don't these ads on this site really bug you!

I am feeling the same way Shari so I am sure it is normal - not just reserved for stressy, paranoid women in the first trimester!!!!

Have been up half the night with Tilly who has an ear infection so feeling fab!

Fiona-
Hope your daughter feels better soon! When you say "you are feeling the same" were you referring to the cramping? It's gotten much better actually, but friday was rough and scary.

Rebecca-
Hey, how're you? Doing well today. Had a nice, relaxing weekend with my husband's family. Going for my thyroid test tomorrow, and my 4th beta on monday. Keeping a PMA, and sending positive vibes your way as well.

Later all!
