hey chriss - how's things? Been thinking a lot about you (and Carolyn and Sabi...)I'm sure you have good days and not so good days with the bedrest. Hang in there -- 30 weeks is great, keep it up! You are really in the home stretch. How often are you going to the doctor now?

Anna is 6 weeks old today and is so worth all we have been through to get her. I am sure you and DH will feel exactly the same with your boys. It is a love you never knew you had and a feeling that you can't believe you lived without this little miracle until now and can hardly remember what life was like before she came around. Relish and enjoy every moment, no matter how challenging. These babies are truly a gift.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing!

Take good care chriss, carolyn, sabi, hopeful, stef, poohgirl, miracle and everyone I have possibly missed, or who is reading along.

xx summer

Chriss, Hi congratulations on passing the 30 week mark. Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you, the boys have been poorly feeling a bit like a zombie at the moment.
Regarding routine, all we really did was introduce a bed time routine at 4 weeks. Around 6 we bath them and dress them, then would give them a bottle and put them down in their crib upstairs around 7pm. We then fed on demand upstairs through the night. We always woke the 2nd baby to feed when the first baby woke. They dropped their 10.30 feed first and by 11 weeks were sleeping 7-7. We put them in their own room at 8 weeks and from that time onward we all slept better. We still do bedtime like this now and boy are they ready for bed by then.By 11 weeks they were on four hourly feeds 7-11-3-7, and taking around 7-8oz bottles. I never bought any books a friend lent me one for singles and i did a lot of following on line.

Jayne - that sounds almost too easy - I had first antenatal class yesterday and came home in a panic - was just so overwhelmed thinking how am I going to cope! - DH was sweet as ever and said we will but he knows what a control and organised person I like to be - think just got to chuck that all out the window!! Hope the boys are feeling better now and that you can get some rest! - got the pushchair - got the out and about one as was lighter than the one you recommended! Think we are just about organised just nee to get it all in one room now instead of scattered all over the house - but that requires some level of energy !!!

Hopeful - congrats on the girls

Chris - when is your next check up ? - will you have section or natural ?

Sabi - hope your ok!

Summer - big hugs to that gorgeous daughter of yours ((()))

love to all xx

Hi Carolyn, Nice to hear from you.
Yes we liked the nipper, however DH is 6ft tall and has a bad back, so we had to rule it out as he stooped to push it. Also it's wider so would not have fit through my front door. There is not a perfect pushchair out there.
OOh must be good if i made it sound easy, we found our ante natal pretty rubbish as most of it they would say it does not count for you having twins (nice). I am also a bit of a control/neat freak, but believe me you do get more relaxed about it, as you just do not have the time or energy.
Regarding our routine, we had very collicky babies who would cry from 5-11pm every night, this was why we started the routine and the results were instant, DH could not cope atfter a full day at work.
I also think we were very lucky as the babies were both good sizes as big as term singletons, so the sleeping longer ang taking bigger feeds was as it would be with a singleton. I think the best thing is to carry them as long as possible (bigger babies)as this makes it easier in the long term at home. The first 3 months are hard with disturbed sleep, then 3-9 months is lovely, 9 months onwards i found hard as they are getting mobile and want more stimulation and you are also weaning them. It's getting easier again now as they are starting to understand what you are saying, although they both want to walk all the time and only get the chance on a weekend when we are both around to take them out.
Is your DH still working away in the week? or is he back locally. Also when do you plan to stop working and will you be going back.
Take care, not long to go now.

Hi Carolyn,
feel better!!
In terms of getting ready -- if time is flying by for you like it did for me, then I would suggest you get as much done as possible now -- who knows what is going to happen at the end -- or really, when the end will really come. You'll be holding those miracles of yours in your arms before you know it.

Hope you are having fun getting the nursery ready! What are you doing in terms of colors?
Do you have any gut feeling about what you are having, or does it keep changing? I really thought I'd be having a girl from the start, and on the morning I delivered, I suddenly thought it was maybe a boy...I should have just trusted my instincts...

Enjoy the few days of pampering with your mom!
Aside from the chest cold, are you feeling good otherwise and enjoying being pregnant?

Take good care and hi and happy thanksgiving!! to everyone else,
xx summer

Hello ladies, sorry to crash your thread, but I see that the awaiting tmt girls are here now! :D:D

Chriss, CONGRATULATIONS girl! :D SO happy for you!!!! Wow, it's amazing that you guys get to be pregnant at the same time and share this thread!

Hi Mir! *HUGS* It's great to read about you too!! How are you dear?

Carolyn, I came here to check on you (didn't post much, but you know I couldn't forget you!) and I read beach's last posts, and her comments about books.

I have mixed feelings about books. I, too, like to be organized, plan ahead, be informed, you know that from the time we spent chatting. What I found is that all that information was both a blessing and my biggest source of worry and anxiety after Jérémie was born. All that information about how things should be, and what I should do, made me create high expectations towards myself, and towards my son. I felt really, really bad when I wasn't able to do things as books said I should, or I felt like a failure and wondered what I did wrong, spent time doing problem-solving to make things better, and so on. Little things that spoil the moment, like "oh shoot, he fell asleep in my arms, this isn't good, must not create a habit" or "geez, he's 5 weeks now and he still feeds every 2-2:30 hours and only for 10 minutes, I don't want to turn him into a snacker!" How about "mmmh, must understand his cries, because if I don't, by the time he's 3 months old his crying will become undifferenciated by my fault!" (yup, all that info was from Secrets of a baby whisperer, a best-seller and a book I alsolutely worshipped... until I delivered and saw what life with a baby is really about!!!!)

Then I realized I had become a slave of those books and didn't rely on the best advice there is: my instinct. Sometimes, relative ignorance is BLISS!!!! I literally took all my books except one (the no-cry sleep solution; the only book I read that treats you and your kids like human beings who are not perfect) and put them in a box downstairs. They're still there.

Because I stopped putting my nose into books, things happen in the right order, I think. Instead of gathering information from books and observing my son to see if it applies so I do the right things as the books suggest... I observe my son, do what feels right, change my approach a little bit when it doesn't work, and when I find the right combination of things, bingo, I have knowledge. It's the best you can find, because it fits to YOUR kid(s). :D

Oh, books like the baby whisperer (my biggest source of guilt) insist that you must observe your kid and find the right way for him/her, but they also drown you in programs, routines, expectations, how-to's, that create standards you can WELL do without.

I did co-sleeping with Jérémie during his first two weeks because I felt he needed a smooth transition. The day I felt it was enough, I bought his pliable bassinette and he slept next to our bed. A few weeks later, I suddenly felt he was ready to sleep in his big bed in his own room. Each time, I was right. No book could teach me that in advance. I started him on solids weeks before my doctor told me to start them, I went against her advice. And I was right; he needed them and still breastfed 5-6 times per 24h. See what I mean? Even now, I am careful with books. I read them to know what foods were really dangerous for him depending on his age. But I don't rely on books to decide when to introduce green beans vs sweet potatoes. I go with the flow and listen to my inner voice. The old me would have felt uneasy with that method; what if I do something wrong? What if I make a mistake because I'm missing some information? When those thoughts sneak into my head, I look at my son, healthy and happy, and they quickly vanish.

Sorry for the editorial my dear, but I just thought I'd share my two cents. Putting those books in that box was an emotional moment of stress, doubt and anguish, and if I can spare you that, good!

Take care luv, and many hugs,

Sophie xxox

Hi,

I hope all of you here in the States had a good Thanksgiving weekend. Well, I had my first visit to the hospital last night. I had cramps that did not feel right, so I called the nurse connection and they sent me in. Turned out I was having mild contractions. They gave me a shot to calm them down and wow what a difference! I've had this full feeling off an on for several weeks and I chalked it up to gas ... now I'm thinking it may be contractions! I just turned 20 weeks, so Chriss, I think I may be following in your foot steps ... I'm glad to see you and the boys are still going strong at 31 weeks!!!

The thought of bedrest for 3-4 months doesn't sound great, but I'm all for being cautious right now, so it will be an interesting conversation with my doctor. I already had an appointment to see the nurse practitioner today, but I put a phone call in to let them know I need to see the doctor. The good news is both babies were doing well and moving all around

I'll update you all later!

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking of all of you. This is going to be a quickie...

Hopeful, your situation does sound very familiar. Hang in there. Let me know what OB says. Try to relax as this is often "normal" when carrying twins. I've learned to live with it. Bed-rest is tough, but I know that I am doing this for my babies.

I'll write more soon, it's just that my back hurts right now and it's hard to type.

Be well!

Thank you Chriss! I hope your back is feeling better.

A quick update as I need to get to bed. My OB did a thorough exam and determined while I may be having contractions they are not premature labor contractions. He said my cervix is still very thick and measuring 4cm. He said if it was thinning out, shortening, or if I was dilated at all he'd be concerned but he said everything looks really good and the girls were again moving all over the place. He gave me some meds to calm the cramping/contractions and said I can take them every 6 hours as needed. If they don't help then he said to give him a call. He said I'm ok to continue working but again if the meds don't calm the cramps/contractions then I need to leave work and go home and lay down. If I have to do that a few times he'll put me on bed rest.

He was very optimistic and said he thinks I'll make it to 37 weeks and have two good weight babies ... I hope he's correct :D

Take care everyone and I'll check back in tomorrow.

Hi Hopeful,
Sorry to read about your hospital visit. Sounds like your doctor is taking good care of you. Listen to your body and take good care of yourself and your little girls!

Hi chriss - you are so very close!! I am sure the time is probably crawling by being on bedrest. Do hope you are otherwise feeling good and are getting excited!! Ready or not, here they come!

Big hello to everyone! Hope all is well.

Anna is already 8 weeks old and growing like a weed. She is such a joy, I couldn't ask for a better way to start the day than with one of her smiles.
On the other hand, I'm getting sad thinking about having to say goodbye to my mom in January. It has been wonderful having her here. I'm so happy she has had the chance to get to know her granddaughter.

Take good care,
xx summer

Hey Ladies,

I have been awful about posting. Occasionally I check-in to see how everyone is doing. And from the looks of it great. I have to go back in a read a little more but wanted to just say Hi, I'm still around and gald to see everyone is doing well.

AFM,I just reached half way. Things have been pretty uneventful until yesterday. I was feeling a lot of pelvic pressure and like my uterous was clinching but not releasing. They had me go in to the clinic. Everything looked fine, baby is moving quite a bit, cervix is 4+, no bleeding or leaking of fluid. They told me to take it easy and drink a lot of fluid and not to come back for 4 wks unless I have problems. I was scared yesterday but feel better today. I am getting bigger and in total fat clothes or maternity clothes. We have told a few people about the pg but not everyone. People at work have not asked which amazes me, they must just think I'm letting it all go since I got married and getting chunky. I have gained 9 pounds. Glad to hear everyone is doing well.
