Tara - I don't think it is too uncommon for babies to get fussy about eating. My pediatrician said that at this age babies should still be getting most of their protein and other nutrients from formula so I don't think you should worry about her losing weight. It could be that she's teething and that sucking on the bottle is more comfortable for her. Sean is also in a phase where often times when I first try to feed him he gets WICKED pissed off for the first couple of minutes and absolutely refuses to even contemplate eating. He clamps his mouth shut and makes this angry "MMMEHHHHHH" sound until his whole head turns red, shaking his head back and forth and flailing his hands around to avoid the spoon, and throwing himself around in the high chair. I will have to hold his hands down and act quickly to cram that first bite into his mouth once he opens it up to wail at how cruel I am being to him. Very messy. He gulps it down, then you see this look come over his face like, "Oh, hey, yeah... Food. I LIKE food!" at which point he will wolf down an enormous bowl of cereal, a container of fruit, and a baby yogurt. Seems like this happens most often when he gets too hungry, which makes sense since I get cranky then too. He's probably also testing me - if so he's finding out that Mama doesn't take a lot of guff!! (And seriously, he does pull that crap more often with my husband - he's not stupid!) So I try to give him at least a snack every 2 hours. I also find it helps to give him sips of something to drink every few bites - the same way we would eat and drink during a meal - instead of just one or the other at a time.
I would say keep giving her plenty of formula but continue trying to feed her solids at every meal. As long as she's getting plenty of formula she should get enough nutrients. You can also get nipples for the bottle that allow larger foods to pass through so you could add some cereal or fruit to the formula to augment it nutritionally. I'm sure this is just a phase and if you keep trying with the solids she will start up eating them again.

Thanks a lot for your input. I was amused by your description of Sean's behavior when you try to feed him. That is exactly how Faith behaves too!! Anyway, I will keep trying to feed her solids. Yesterday she ate some yogurt and carrots. So let's see how it goes.
Tara, it must be common because wondercat's description is EXACTLY what Chaz does!! From the begining he's always got into the worst mood as soon as he sees the bowl and spoon comming. He stares at me with the meanest look as if to say "how dare you treat me like a baby and spoon feed me". I always have to MAKE him taste a bite either with the spoon or my finger and then his whole mood changes and he begins to eat. However, lately with both my twins they seem to have lost their appetite for solids. Joslyn use to ALWAYS finish her bowl. Now they both take about 3 - 4 bites and are done. They LOVE to feed themselves though so we give them puffs, crackers, biscuits, muffins, carrots, etc....anything they can hold onto and feed themselves.

lol - GREAT to know somebody else out there is feeling the same frustration! Honestly, I shouldn't complain because overall he has been a very good eater. Even my Nana said so, followed by a reminiscent glare and "...not like your father!" I need to get Sean more into eating finger foods. He does OK with the teething biscuits, except they tend to get dropped after only a couple nibbles. Which my dogs love, at least... I'm hoping he will get more into finger foods once he has some teeth on top, too.

We were getting frustrated with the twins because it seemed they would eat nothing unless it's completely pureed. So then we tried handing them a cracker and they at least "tried" to get it to their mouths. Over the weeks they've gotten better and better and crumbs still get all in their laps, the chair, the floor and their hair! lol Our dogs also love to hang out beneath the high chairs. Joslyn has actually started to use her pincer grasp...I just noticed it the other day when she picked up a puff with her thumb and forefinger. So I think the practice is helping although messy. We usually give them the finger snacks just before we bath them so that we can just peel their clothes off and put them straight in the tub
Speaking of teeth, the twins still don't have any . Gums look swollen but they've looked like that for awhile but nothing's coming through. I know they say it can take more than a year for some babies. Anyone else still without teeth?

Oh yeah, Sean makes this elaborate show of gagging on anything less than a puree. For finger foods he also likes little pieces of Laughing Cow spreadable cheese. He is great with the pincer grasp and loves to deliberately rotate spinning things. Too bad he won't always be this easily amused!!

I've been MIA for a little been busy. I always want to write as I wirte on the ivf board and always forget. I was cycling in the summer group and got my BFP yesterday! Beta was 236, pretty happy with that, hopefully will rise nice and high tomorrow.
Wondercat I have seen that you are going for your FET soon to right? I'm so excited for you!!!!
No teeth for my DD too urghh although you can see the bottom two below her gums and feel them to so i hope she will get them. She wakes up in the middle of the night screaming so i have to give her orajel and she goes back to sleep.
cant relate to the food issue. My DD is a monster and will eat anything and everything. The only thing she hates in mac and cheese lol she gaged on it once and i didnt try it again. She isnt crawling yet, she sits up and will stand supported for couple of minutes. She just started to sit up on her own from the laying down position. I cant wait for her to crawl or scoot because she gets so frustrated when she cant get to wherever she wants to go.

Their increasing mobility is exciting yet terrifying. This weekend Sean crawled across my Nana's living room, straight for the stairs, and... UP THEM! Yes, that's right. He can climb stairs - one knee up, second knee up, hold on to the next step, stand up - repeat. I don't think I have recovered from that one yet!

Wondercat - wow! Sean is too fast. Have you installed gates on the bottom of the stairs?
Faith is is trying to stand up holding on to something like Wall or sofa, but she is no where near to climbing stairs.
And yes, one of her bottom toothe has come out. I miss the toothless smiles, but this one is too cute too!!
Tara - Sean isn't that fast. Remember he was only *supposed* to be a November baby but showed up 3 weeks early! So he's already 10 months old. He has been cruising for a while though. Kid just loves to stand. It's funny, I got all sad too thinking about his toothless grin but now think he he looks even cuter with the little teeth! We live in a raised ranch, so in our case it's a matter of a gate at the TOP of the stairs. Downstairs there is a door I can lock to keep him from crawling out of there. The most difficult thing is going to be figuring out how to baby-proof the litter boxes -though he already grabbed a cat with both hands and stuck his face directly in the butt. Thank heavens my cats are exceedingly easygoing!!! (And clean...)

My DD is nowhere near crawling she does love to stand so I've been putting her in her walker and she likes it. I'm so excited for you to start again! Yes sometimes i feel like i'm crazy for wanting #2 but we always wanted to start quickly since my pregnancy was complicated. So did you get your AF? which board are you on? I will be stocking you and will be cheering you on! lol
dys24 - Yes, I got AF but the timing is so that I have to wait another month anyway. I have an appointment Sept 22 to get things rolling along and hope to start with my next cycle after that, which *if I am on time* should be the following week. I am on the Fall 2010 Cycle board now. We finally just told our families that we are going to be trying in the fall, and I'm relieved that they are all pretty good with it. Obviously we are going to make our own decisions on this, but it's nice to know you have that support. Right now I'm just trying to remember what the FET process is like. It's been 3 years since I've done one!

I had a FET before this fresh cycle and i was on BCP for a month with overlapping lupron of 10ius and when i got my period on day 3 i had a u/s and then started vivielle patches couple of days later and the # of patches increased as the time went on i think it was like two weeks of all that before i had my transfer, and i started progesterone like 2 or 3 days before transfer, it was way easier than a fresh cycle but it did seem like it was a loooong wait because you dont go to the clinic often so the time dragged on.
I go in for my 3rd beta tomorrow I'm kind of scared because my initial betas were on the high side I'm scared of twins but of course will feel blessed if there is two and i will take it and figure it out in time I guess we will see in two weeks.
