Hi everyone! I was wondering if I could join your company on this thread...!
It's been a while since I last posted anything... not much to report, anyway: I recently did 2 cycles with clomiphen, both of them 0 follies and we also discovered my LH rises too early (so the eggs don't have enough time to mature before ovulation)... so that could very well be an infertility reason for all these years we've been trying! (as you can guess none of my previous doctors ever asked me to test my hormones before...)
In any case, doc now says we're done with natural cycles so we're back to good old ivf that has "worked" for us so far. At least we can finish the cycle!
Chances are I will be starting around the 28th March (depends on AF arrival!)
So good luck to everyone and hang on in there!

Daly,

Congrats on the ER - you must be so excited! Rest up for the transfer and I am sure you will have great fertilzation results! I can't wait til I am at that point - it's so exciting!

Sammylou - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I totally understand the down spirits - it comes on me out of nowhere and anything can set it off! Just know with each day we get to begin new and hopefully in better spirits!

By DH has really been getting on my nerves lately...trying to remind myself I am EXTRA sensitive these days and to just ignore it!

I am trying to plan activities to make the time go by faster. My weekends are booked now. Going horseback riding with my sister-in-law this Saturday, getting a pedicure and massage Sunday, having a garage sale next Sat., bought tickets to go see The Phantom of the Opera 1st weekend of April - then before you know it I should be ready to transfer. Then I will take days off and really rest this time. So that's my plans - we'll see if it all works out! So far though, my stress level is really down and I am feeling mentally and physically ready!

Have a great everyone!!

I just found this article on Yahoo.

BOSTON (Reuters) - What a difference two days makes -- at least for test-tube babies. Once a fertilized egg is implanted in the womb, the chance of delivering a child is about 48 percent higher if that egg is five days old instead of three, doctors in Brussels have discovered.

The research published in this week's New England Journal of Medicine found that 32 percent of the 175 women who received the more mature eggs ultimately delivered a baby, compared with 22 percent for the 176 who received the younger eggs.

In a journal editorial, Laura Schieve called the results "encouraging" but said the fact that the study was done in women under age 36 means the findings only apply to less than half the U.S. women receiving fertility treatments.

The new results come as fertility doctors are trying to improve the success rate for creating test-tube babies without implanting more than one embryo.

Although using multiple embryos improves the odds of success, it also increases the risk of multiple births, many of which produce children with developmental problems that can be expensive to treat.

In the United States in 2002, 35 percent of the deliveries using test-tube technology produced twins, triplets, or more. In Europe, the rate is about 25 percent because doctors are more likely to implant just one embryo at a time. The normal rate for multiple births is just 2 percent.

The Belgian study was an attempt to improve the success rate for an individual embryo by giving it two extra days to mature. The delay also allowed doctors to better gauge its quality.

Schieve, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, told Reuters that doctors have considered that implanting the embryos at a later stage might be better because, in natural conception, the embryo usually does not attach itself to the uterus until the fifth day. By the third day, the egg is usually still traveling down the Fallopian tube.

Until 1998, most centers did not have the right tools to grow embryos for more than three days.

"If you think of in-vitro fertilization in stages, from stimulating egg production, to retrieving eggs, to fertilizing them and transferring them, they're really good at stimulating and retrieving them, and fertilization rates are high. The rate-limiting step is implantation into the uterus. This is one mechanism where you might improve that," Schieve said.

Interesting - my clinic will only transfer 5 day old blastocysts. Hope it works this time!

Just updating - welcome to Mafalda & Jamato253, have added you to the list.

Allison, I found your article interesting - I am attending the Bourn Hall Clinic which was established by Mr Patrick Steptoe & Proffessor Robert Edwards who achieved the worlds first "test tube" baby, the clinic is still doing both types of transfer - they usually do Blastocyst when you've had/got problems with them implanting, but not until you've had so many tries - plus this costs more!!!

At the risk of sounding stupid - i have to ask. What does EC mean? I know ER is egg retrieval and ET is embryo transfer, but I get confused by EC. I checked abbreviations thread and didn't see it. And DR is Down-regging? Is that another term for suppression?

Thanks everyone - I'm still a newbie!

EC and ER are one in the same (egg Collection - egg retrieval)

My cycle started on the 14th - I am doing doing stims til saturday - then blood on sunday - but either way my EC/ER fall approx 12-14 days into my cycle - so the 14th is actually the 27th - I have been around the block a few times here and I work like a clock

Hopefully it will all stay on track!

Good luck to you all..

Although my Mother in Law told me I was jinxing myself (I call it bringing positive energy to the experiance) I found a very cute mini Pooh Bear at Walmart.. I bought it.. And here it sits on my desk.. Either a very early Tummy present.. Or a nice Stuffed animal for my 6 month old neice!

fulloffaith - interesting article. Does anyone know when the embryos actually implant? When you achieve pregnancy naturally - I think it happens 10 days after ovulation. It seems that if you wait for a day 5 transfer - it shortens the time between transfer and implantantion - giving the embryos less of a chance to "disappear". Not sure of the benefit of a day 3 transfer. I am scheduled for a day 5 transfer on Sunday.
