Thanks all for the great tips! I am excited, anxious and scared to start the cereal. We went to docs yesterday and he said just don't stress if she doesn't like it and it just takes time. He was very relaxed about the whole thing and even said I can start with rice cereal or potatoes (although I read potatoes are bad) and mentioned to add some olive oil to the cereal

We are driving back to Munich tonight - my sis and her family (2 boys) are coming for a visit. They are taking the train to Venice - big adventure. But I am also relieved she is coming because she can watch Isabella a little while I get a much needed break. DH is getting better and better but I think he thinks I just sit around the house all day - and we all know this is not true and how stressful it can be with a little one at home. Isabella is laughing and giggling all the time now but I still get stressed if I can't keep her entertained.

I hope everyone has a great weekend...with guests in the house I probably won't have time to login but will the following week.

Hi Tracii,

Goodluck with the cereal. Don't worry about it because Isabella will probably surprise you and love it, shouting for more  The other girls in my village and i (7 of us with babies the same age!) had the health visitor give us a talk on weaning. her advice was to start slow and let the baby lead you. The first time they may only have one mouthful and that will be all they can cope with. I suppose we just have to remember that so far they have only had to deal with milk which goes straight to the back of the throat and is easy to swollow whilst with solids they nedd to work out how ot move the food to the back of the throat to swallow. once they have this pegged they love it. I ahve just started Arabella on carrot. The first time she had as much as would fit on your little fingernail and decided that it was foul and where was her baby rice and she wanted that now! Lots of shouting :o The next day i tried again and mixed a bit with her baby rice, this went down much better and the day after that she decided that axctually carrot was yummy. So it is not instant and they definately let you know how they feel.

YOu say you are also stressing about entertaining her all day. One trick my neighbour does is popos her daughter in hte baby bjorn(sling) and carries her around whilst doing the chores. Hard work but they do find it quite interesting getting a different view on the world. I do leave Arabella to entertain herself for bits of the day. She can keep herself happy for about 15 - 20 mins which means you can tidy up or do a bit of gardening with her in the same room or near me. My mum helped me with this as she was quite right when she said we as adults are happy on our own for a while and you see small toddlers playing on their own fao a while quite happily so why should a baby be any different. So now i don't feel guilty.

Hello to everyone else and a big GOODLUCK to Jomae for her wait to testing.

Love Saraid

Hello Saraid
thanks for the luck i think i'm going to need it the thawing process didn't go so well. We had 4 left the first two thawed died the 3rd thawed lost 4 out of 6 cells and the fourth a 5 cell didn't change. So i'm not to optimistic and telling myself its very unlikely to work to save the disappointment. Thanks again for thinking of me. It sounds like you and Arrabella are doing really well aren't those faces they pull when trying something new to eat priceless.

Hope everyone else is well goodluck with the feeding

Jomae, so sorry to hear the thawing didn't go as good as you hoped. You never know though...so let's hope for the best!! Congrats on moving forward with everything though....it's exciting and would be so fun for you if it works again!

As far as the topic of entertaining the little ones, I've had that challenge lately. And aren't the babies getting harder to keep up with as they get older? I just hired a 13 yr old girl to help me a couple days a week after her school. She's so good with the boys and she likes to play with & entertain them, which is just what they need! And since she's young and doesn't babysit yet, I don't have to pay her much. It was a great idea and will give me a bit of help.

Tracii...correct, we definately don't sit around the house all day long. Gosh, I can't remember the last time I actually just sat around the house. Well, yes I can, 5 months ago!!!!

Hi all!

Jomae - sorry to hear it didnt go as planned. But it really does only take one and you never know. Best of luck!

Great to hear all your stories! It makes me feel normal!!! Sometimes I fell like I'm the only one who has to deal with enteretaining, feeding probs, sleep probs etc. etc. Nice to hear I'm not alone!!

RE: entertaining - I used to run around like a lunatic during Charlie's morning snooze getting myself ready. Now I don't bother. He loves being in the bathroom and watching the water whilst I'm in the shower and it gives me something to "entertain" him with! I also try to do one thing different for each session - so for instance after morning nap it's a shower. After lunch nap it's a bounce in his door bouncer. After afternoon nap it's a play on our bed. It certainly doesnt entertain him the whole time but I know there's something different during each session. Oh - and music is my saviour. Doesnt matter what as long as it's loud! He loves it!! We also have a swing park nearby but so sometimes I walk him up there and have a play on the swings. He doesnt appreciate it like older kids do but it gives us something different to do!!!

Right - must dash! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Hello, nice to hear and get ideas from y'all for entertaining the little ones. Colin loves to watch me dance and sing, he just giggles continuously. I gives me some excersice in the mornings.

Question about feedings. I was at Babies-R-Us the other day and they had stage 2 nipples for his bottles. They were not tri-cut for cereal to mixed in. Since he is older do I switch to stage 2 for his milk? Also the doctor told me to have him on 2 fruits by 6 months. When to start introducing Apple sauce with his food? I have been only doing Rice cereal. Oh Oh gotta go sing and dance lol. Will talk later.

Hi All -

Jomae - still keeping everthing crossed for you. I just have a feeling you are going to get a BFP, despite the thawing challenges.

Well, Hendricks is now rolling over. He finally figured out that his arms could do more than just reach for things. He is now loving being on his tummy as he can lift his head really high doing a baby pushup. And then he just flips to his back. He is also rolling from back to tummy. Strange... 4 days ago he couldn't do either and now he is doing like it is 2nd nature. Once again, I said "stop changing!"

We also introduced his first veggie - peas! I snuck it in with his cereal. He didn't even flinch, although towards the end I got the one eye closed half gag look. Figured we'd better start with veggies so that he doesn't love the sweetness of fruits and spit the veggies out (like his mom does)

Are your babes sitting yet? Sometimes H can make it 10-15 seconds on his own before he topples over. I think he likes it, but we have to wait until at least an hour after he eats or he just squirms the whole time.

As for entertaining, one thing DH does to keep him busy during the day is to play in the mirror. We just started puting him in his baby einstein exersaucer. He LOVES it! His eyes get as big as saucers and he jumps up and down excitedly.

Time to get the wee one up from his nap... we're off to church.

--Julie

P.S. please post more pics if you have the chance :D

Madiva, the stage nipples have been a big thing on my mind lately too and I finally think I figured it out. We're still on Stage 1/newborn nipples. I figured they should be in Stage 2 by now but I've tried it and they can't keep up. I have now talked to a few different mom's and found out that their babies never made it out of stage 1 nipples the whole time they were in bottles. Then I just found today on a website that Stage 1 nipples are recommended for babies of all ages if they are also breastfed. So that solved it for it and now I feel right about leaving them in Stage 1 nipples.

KristiA, I also tried the the stage 2 and Colin has the same problem, that is why I was confused. Thank you now I know it is O.K. to keep him with stage 1. It makes him happy as well as I so therefore he will stay with it lol. Thanks again.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice Kristia. I was looking at teats the other day and wondering if i sould be getting hte 6+months ones for Arabella but won't bother if it is not necessary.

Peas! You are brave Julie. I am only just now about to try sweet potatoe with Bella boo. I thought i would work my way through the orange veg and then go onto the green and then the white! Sounds like a traffic light doesnt it! Clever Hendricks! Arabella can only roll onto her tummy when she has no nappy on, still waiting the reverse to happen.

Good tips Cla for entertaining. I am so pleased the weather is better as i am now introducing Arabella to the garden. Fun!

How has the room transition been Madiva? Sounds like you are all sorted and Colin is a happy bunny.

Looking forward to hearing your news Jomae.

I had great news from my friend yesterday. She had her first baby at home and all went well. A little boy but no name yet. It brought it all back to me, the same excited, exhilirated and knackered feelings when Arabella was born. Isn't birth a miracle :P

Love to all

Oh my! I just booked a plane ticket for next week to go for 3 nights, 4 days on vacation with my mom. I've never been away from the boys for more than a few hours. Will I survive that long away from them? Will they survive without me? Will DH survive with them alone? Will they remember how to BF when I get back?

Has anyone else been away from their little one like that?

KristiA - You deserve the break away..and don't feel guilty..DH will be fine with the boys. What could go wrong? I am seriously jealous. The most time I have been away is 2 hours!..more because I don't have a great support system (i.e. DH works all the time and my in-laws don't even want a grandchild so they would NEVER take care of Isabella). I am looking forward to my vericose vein surgery! Scary! My sis and family are here and they have been great with Isabella. Look forward to your time away - I think it is healthy for everyone :D

hi guys
thanks everyone who posted The PMA i appreciate your thoughts. Just to add my bit about entertainment each part of the day for us has a different activity which we do as a routine this way he's not left in one spot becoming board or grumpy so through out the day he spends time in his walker in differnt parts of the house we have an electric swing he loves his activity ring he loves to roll and thrash about in and of course the floor toys that get alternated. i also make sure he has time playing with me on the floor and on my lap, we have music playing and always make silly noises which seems to be the most entertaining and finally in the afternoons we go for a walk after we feed the horse and chooks he loves me putting his feet on ruby's head (the horse) ticklish feet. i also think it's necessary to give them time on their own i think it's important that they can entertain themselves to a degree otherwise they think the worlds ending when you do need to get up and do something else. so goodluck and have fun.
