HI Everyone:

Had my EC yesterday...slept all day long, was up all night! Here is my BIG question. If I had 15 follicles of 10m 2 days before the retrieval, how did the procedure only yield 8 eggs? Could I have ovulated the other ones away?
Anyhow, I phoned today to see what the status was and all 8 fertilized and are growing, which is the best we can ask for. We'll know more tomorrow whether the transfer will be Monday (day 3) or Wed (day 5). Fingers and toes are crossed for Wednesday, as they will only transfer 2 then and you have a little better odds if they've surived that long.
Hope & Dagney: I had absolutely no clue I was PG with my 4 yr old daughter....had absolutely no symptoms, wouldn't have been drinking or riding all of the rides at Disneyworld that said "Expectant Mothers Should Not Ride" The sore bbs and other symptoms started at about 4 weeks, so don't read into much at this point. I wish you all FANTASTIC luck with your tests...how could 2 weeks get to be so long?

Hi Paige

Glad that your EC went well. You got 8 eggs which is great. I had 40 follies and thought I would get a bumper crop of eggs and I only got 14. They do say that it's quality rather than quantity and as you had all fertilise so far it's good news. I hope they continue to progress and you have 2 lovely juicy embies to put back either Mon or Wed.

40 Follies.....that's unbelievable, and I was griping about how uncomfortable I was with 15.

Paige,

Glad the EC went ok. On my last go, I had 17 eggs but only 13 were mature then only 10 fertilized and 9 of those lasted until time of the transfer. Amazing how the numbers can dwindle so one is left with less than half what they thought :( .
Anyway, I think that they can only retrieve mature eggs so I'm guessing you probably had a few which weren't. At any rate, 8 fertilized is certainly nothing to be upset about. It sounds like you might end up with some to freeze as well!

Are you doing a 3 day transfer?

Staci:

I will know tomorrow whether or not it's a day 3 or a day 5...I guess they need to cook a little longer to see which day would be best. Also, I think we did a 50/50 fertilization. 50% ICSI and 50% natural. If I get to choose which ones to transfer...do I lean toward naturally fertilized eggs? Has anyone had to choose?

Paige,

On my first IVF, we did all of ours using ICSI so I'm not sure if the naturally fertilized eggs would be considered better or not. I would think that they would have you decide which are the best to transfer based on the quality of the embryos themselves rather than on the method used to fertilize them but I am no expert!

I'm sure there is someone else on here who has probably had a similar situation though.

Hi Everyone

Had my baseline scan yesterday (endo 4mm), and was ready to start stims ... yipee ! Sonographer did say though that there's a small "simple" cyst on the right ovary (13mm), but not to worry about it as it won't affect treatment. She said it is probably a follicle that's left over from the last cycle in March and will probably disappear by itself..... has anyone else had this ..? what if it doesn't disappear, but in fact gets bigger ? I should have asked her.

How's everyone doing today ....? It's a really miserable morning here in Lancashire... absolutely p**ing it down.

JaneM - how did your EC go on Thursday ? let us know ..

Tracie - hope you're feeling okay re your follies - when's your next scan, today / tomorrow ?

Hope - there are lots of ladies who have symptoms the first few days, then nothing at all... then get BFPs. Only 2 more days of agony for you 'till 27th ... hang on in there.

Paige - 8 fertilized eggs, from 8 eggs collected ... wow ! that's amazing. Well done you ! Hope ET is on Wed for you.

Nickie - Emm... twitches, I mean twinges :) in stomach ... must mean something Nickie, and I would think it can only be good. You're over halfway through now, won't be long before you're top of the test list !

Dagny ... you're next !!! At last eh ? Keep up the PMA today. Keep that hpt in the drawer pls and we're waiting for you to confirm the good news tomorrow.

Lindsey, Sophie-Jane and everyone else on 2ww .... hope you're not going too insane .... We're all expecting lots of good news this week please !

Traci:

My friend who went through a stim phase for IUI had a left over follicle that burst, so make sure the Dr. keeps an eye on it. If it's left over from March, it might not be as big of a deal as hers burst 2-3 weeks after the unsucessful IUI. She said it was like having AF come 2 xs in a month...AF was not welcome.

Dagny: Everything is crossed for you! Best of luck...I just woke up (it's 5:30am in Chicago) so even my hair is crossed for you.

Am currently taking an antibiotic, 80mg baby aspirin, prenatal vitamin, and 4 steriods pills (of the same variety). The steroid is causing some major insomnia...any suggestions?

Will call today to see when ET is....grow you little buggars, grow.

Hiya girls

Traci

Amazingly ....... I have no sore boobs ........ which I'm not sure whether I'm happy about or not really. The reason being is that I always get swollen boobs about 5 days before AF that last until AF arrives - this month AF is due day after tomorrow and they are not ballooning at all. The aren't even the smidgy bit tender. God knows what is going on!

Well, we'll know soon enough! Dagny, you test tomorrow (OH MY GOD)!!

Good luck girlfriend. Will be thinking of you big time.

Dr. called today (probably from the golf course..I could hear the wind, can't blame him), and said he thinks it's going to be a day 3 xfer. It took the wind out of my sails. I was really hoping to go to blastocyst day 5. Some of the 8 fertilized eggs aren't doing that great, so he's going to call tomorrow am and go through what we're working with. I think I have the right to decide which day, don't I?

Hi Paige

I'm sorry to hear that not all the embryos are doing too well... but remember, you only need one for it to work.

I'm not sure whether the decision re the transfer day is made by the doctor, or if you can decide. At my hospital (in UK), I have to go along with the doctor, but it may be different for you ? Sorry, I've been absolutely no help.

Let's see what the options are tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.
