Day 3 of Detox...I made it through the weekend :D Eating the healthy stuff is no problem...but it is really hard to eat out at all...Yesterday we went for a train ride/small hike in the austrian alps...and along the way there were all sorts of goodies. I thought to myself - oh that looks good, I will go buy one...but then I came back to reality and realized I wasn't allowed to eat it.

No huge symptoms...headache yesterday and today I am feeling very sluggish....oh and grouchy . Day 4 and 5 will be toughest - most restricted.

Off to eat musli and rice milk.

Well done Tracii I am impressed :D Keep up the good work - it is soo hard to be heathly out and about snacks and alcohol seem much easier to get hold of :!:

I have taken advice from people on here and tried to worry a bit less about my weight and had sausage and chips from the chippy saturday yum yum and chocolate and it was lovely.

Off to London today for two days so no chance of being good - just have to eat what I am given - plus it means I can not weigh myself tomorrow - which is a good thing - just try to be sensible

good luck to all - it is freezing here - hope it is warmer in London

Traci, you're doing really, really well. The days are zipping by (for us at least).

Just decided next round will be fresh so am looking at my red wine with misgivings. I can't help but feel if I give it up I'll be bad tempered and feel deprived, esp. with DF on 6 night weeks for a month....

1 glass a night it is, for heart-health reasons. Done.

The rest of my healthy eating is going well. I nibble on fresh dates if I must nibble on anything. Ate a HUGE dinner of dry wholemeal toast with baked beans....still feeling full a hour later. Off to look at my ashtanga dvd in slo-mo shortly but it does warn against trying within 2hrs of a meal so I'm free to pootle around until then.

We're doing well ladies...

Hello ladies!!!

Traci, that is great about your detox...I know I could never do it, so way to go!!!!!

Thanks Debra for starting this wonderful thread!

I have seen your picture on the IVF group board, so I know you needed this thread less than me. But let me tell you just how this thread has motivated me.

I have lost 30 lbs since we began this thread. Yes, that is a lot but I was FAT!
I have been doing at least 30 minutes of cardio a day (some days more), and
I have just started Pilates. I am not thrilled with the workout but hopefully I will need the low impact workout when I become pregnant next month---PMA PMA PMA.

As far as the healthy mind part I am just as crazy as every. I guesss you can't have it all.

Good job to everyone and stay motivated!!!

Mia.....that's fantastic, well done. Makes my warblings about red wine seem so trite. You've inspired me to at least go look at my gets-you-sweaty-yoga dvd....more later...

Mia...I've read that Pilates is great but with one major drawback. You need to do it with a teacher to help constantly, do you go to classes? I love the sound of it - and it's results..tell me more please :)

Debra,

I was doing great on the health scale on my recent trip to California (I was there the first half of July)--was following Zita's diet (where eating fresh beets taught me for the first time that they turn your stools red--weird experience!!), nuts, whole grains, no wheat, no sodas, lots of water, vitamin/mineral supplements she recommends, walking/jogging, still my customary cup of jo in the a.m., though (decided I couldn't give that up until the start of a treatment cycle, I just take too much pleasure in it).

So, aside from my dumb idea of taking the DHEA (which I believe is the reason for my having a second period this month), I was really on the program.

But now, having gotten totally disheartened by the delay now due to having to have surgery in Sept., I've pretty much put it on hold. But maybe I should be on that diet for months, I don't know...

Julie- I hope you are having a great time in London. And your colleagues are right..you need to enjoy life as well and sometimes we all need to indulge ourselves :D

Debra - I am in your thinking as well with the wine :D ..one glass of red is healthy. (when my sister was preggers with number 2 - here doc recommended a glass of red a couple of time a week). I am trying to see if I can get into a yoga class this month...being summer holiday not much going on in Vienna so I may have to wait until September.

Emily - Keep up the good work...even if your cycle has been delayed by remaining to eat healthy your body will heal better after the op. (glad to see you back on the board :D )

Day 4 - toughest day...only fruits and veggies...no nuts or dried fruits. I am feeling pretty good..somehow cleaner...but I am still grouchy - could be lack of sugar. Surprisingly I haven't lost any weight but I am not doing this to loose weight. It will be interesting if my acu doc notices anything on Friday.

Let's keep up the good work 8) 8) 8)

Hi Everyone,

You are all doign so well. Mia 30lbs thats fantastic. Well I have been tring to eat healthier foods, really cut down on meat eating more fish and salad and nuts and seeds. One cup of decaf tea in a morning then hot water all day and fresh orange on an evening. Trying to cut down on the wheat but that isn't going too well all the time and take in more protein. Wine once a week and i haven't drunk fizzy drinks for over 12 months, how sad am I?

My Acu had me do a weekly diet sheet and then got a Nutrtionslist to review it hence the healthier eating, but i cannot cut out the suger I'm still eating thins i shouldn't at work like cream cakes and biscuits but don't at home so not too bad. The exercise i am failing misserably on but I will get back to the gym.

Thanks Tracii for the details of the Randine Lewis book just got it and it is very interesting.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Love,

Jane

Debra,
I know very little about Pilates but here is my take on the workout. I have only been once.
During the workout I didn't really feel like I was doing that much. I was a bit disappointed and thought to myself "how could this be working?". The next day however I really felt it! My muscles were sore, but not the "really sore" like you sometimes get. The soreness felt like it was deep in muscles, especially in my abdomen. If that makes sense.

It has been two days and I can still feel that I have worked out. I am going again tonight. The work out is slow but it is a nice change of pace from cardio. I will let you know when I start seeing results.

thanks Mia for the pilates feedback. I did my ashtanga yoga dvd last night and whilst it was tough, I expected to sweat but was clearly splashing around in the shallow end as I could only do the most basic stage of each move. I can feel it today, like you, a deep muscular ache, not screaming in agony-over-done-it kind of way. I'll rest tonight then do it again tomorrow.

I didn't weigh myself today and just as well. We read about a proper French bakery opening in town and went there today....oh cakes and bread to die for. I indulged but modestly eg. no cream, chocolate or nuts. To counter the butter content, I went for a 45min bike ride, I borrowed MIL's bike and realised I'm a total bike-wuss. I'm useless downhill, think I'm going to slip on all loose stones, scared of dogs....jeez!! Still, I'll try to go somewhere everyday for the next month.

How's everyone else doing?
Debra. (p*ssed off that her local pool is closed for staff holidays for the next 3 weeks - HELLO! it's the school holidays = busiest time of the year)

Debra - way to go on the bike! I would also not be happy with the pool closing...I would say something when they are open. mmmm...French bakery sounds awesome!

I have not exercised except for big walks with the dogs...recommended not stressful exercise during the detox. I am feeling really good...I think the grouchiness is gone and no more headaches. To be honest I can't believe how well I am doing with not wanting to indulge. I even went to the grocery store yesterday ..passed all this great yummy (processed) food....went straight to the bio veggies and fruit. Last night I had a huge plate of stir-fry (with garlic and ginger). Strangely I still have not lost weight..maybe my body saying I don't need to lose any :?: :?:

It is going to be a scorcher here today 8) 8) 8)

Mia & Debra - I read that before EC not to do the pilate stomache/abdominal exercises...causes blockage of blood to the lower abdominal organs (where we want blood flowing for our follies/eggs).

Hi Traci, the end is in sight for you :) I'll be very interested in your feedback as I might give it a whirl next week. How do you feel? physically and emotionally? what have been the toughest parts of the detox? and the best? re. the pool. Norway is extremely egalitarian, everyone is equal, so the pool workers will be deemed absolutely entitled to their 3 weeks off like everyone else. I just think it a farce.

Just had a reasonably active morning, gardening but just pruning which is standing still really  + cleaned my (MIL will never ask for it back I know) bike for tomorrow's jaunt. I made sure to cycle past her office and wave like a lunatic until she saw me! Am going to buy a bike computer so I can monitor speed, distance and time. I just pootle about so am not really training as such.

That's all, weight is back to pre-holiday lvels by some stroke of luck.

Hi Debra - Pruning is alot of exercise...I am sure you will feel it in your triceps :D We have 2 nice bikes but haven't been used in a while...except for me tooling around on them...if I go with DH, he wants to do a mini-Tour de Munich...up and down hills and out all day...so needless to say my rear is killing me the next day and then I just don't enjoy it as much as cruising the neighborhood :D ...mmm ...need to go to Post Office so a bike ride is in order 8)

As far as the detox..Debra you will not have a problem because you eat health anyway..I think it would be a struggle for some which do not normally eat healthy. The biggest symptom physically was headaches..this occurred on day 2 (end of day) and 3 and then disappeared. I was a little grouchy  and snappy on and off
(to Dh)..which I believe was caused by low processed sugar and carbs.

But overall I really feel great...somehow cleaner and 'crispier'...sounds strange I know but I feel like my body somehow moves better and I have more real energy..energy not made by caffeine or sugar.

The hardest part was wanting to eat pasta which I made for DH...I love pasta but I didn't even test-taste it ...instead I ate alot of beans which filled me up and got rid of the carbo-craves.

Off for my leisurly bike ride and sunshine 8)
