Merry Christmas everyone!

I have a question...if you don't mind.

Dh has been giving me the Lupron injections. Everytime he pulls the needle out, it itches for a few minutes. Ok, same thing happened when the nurse did it the first time when she was showing us how to do the injections. The other night he gave me my shot in the stomach and afterwards, it itched, I didn't scratch the injection site at all, but it turned into a bump and a few days later I got a nasty bruise on my stomach. Is that normal??

Also I heard the stim injections are intramuscular. I'm a total baby when it comes to needles. Does that hurt?

I would say, it's your bodies way of saying 'hey, whats this needle doing in me!!!, and kinda seeing it as a foreign object, hence the itch.

I wouldnt worry dear, xx

Hi Jenc,

On the first few injections i done i didnt get the angle quite right (told to go in on 45 degree angle) but i didnt so the fluid was gathering just under the surface and caused a raised bump. once i started doing them right the raised bump went. the itching is quite commn though and loads experience it. The bruises seem to be common place too, i rememer when i first started i had a bruise about the size of my palm, which worried me, but from then on i just avoided that same injection spot and had very few. So dont worry, you or dh are doing a grand job.

Take care and all the best

Love

Injections

Post by mbzz »

Hello everyone, We just finished our first IVF/ICSI cycle and will know results this week..(12/28.. on the injections: My hubby and I have found for the intramuscular- (hip), numb the area just a bit with an ice cube before injection and then immediately following, lay on a heating pad for no less than 1/2 hour-- no lumps, no brusing and NO tenderness!! I have also found that giving myself the progesterone (after transfer) injections in my thigh are more easier than the hip, due to the med is quite thicker because it is in sesame oil. Also have found that with the progesterone as well, after getting syringe ready for injection-- run it under hot water just for a few seconds-- helps with the thickness and makes it easier to inject. Giving the shot to myself in the thigh was a piece of cake!! Numb it and then inject-- so much easier, and even without a heating pad on thigh- no bruising and no soreness. Hope this small tips help. Good luck to you all!!!

Hope everyone had a great christmas!!!

JenC - sounds like good advice that everyone is giving you. I too had the itching so I think it must be normal. Even after tens of injections, I occasionally got a raised bump and then a huge bruise. Just give yourself a huge pat on the back for doing so well so far! As for the intramuscular, I haven't had to do them but the ice and heat treatment sounds good to me.
Good luck!

Looks as though I will be joining ya all if that is okay. My results 12/28 BFN... have a consult with RE next week to see about starting #3. If my calculations are correct, I would be starting the pill again at end of January/beginning of february so that would put us at a March retrieval... will keep all posted.. GL to everyone !!!

I WOULD have been but because the fertility center is closed Fri-Mon, I am starting the injections on Saturday instead of yesterday and I go for an ultra sound on Tuesday. That's close enough though....
