20 weeks w/t twins & short cervix HELP?????

Post by a mothers love »

Hello.
I read up on this blog daily. I have a problem. I'm 2o weeks with twins. My doc told me my cervix shortened to 2.0 in Tuesday when I went for a u/s. The hosp kept me and I've been in the hospt. since. I then today went and had another u/s and it was 2.6 after complete bed rest, medications, stool softner, Iron, med for an infection, and a pill to stop any contractions. no I have not had any contraction) They tell me the only thing left to do is a stitch. They are not usually done with twins but thats my only option, or really bed rest and try to last for 8 to 10 weeks. I'm so sad because the stitch they say have no real help with twins, and has issues as well, as infections, sack to burst and so much more. My question is what do you think should I stitch or not. If not my cervix may shorten even more in a matter of days and no stitch will help down the line, or bed rest. I'm really interested if somthing like this happened to anyone else with twins. I'm so worried, I just started feeling them move around and I'm feeling negative. PLEASE HELP
Thanks

Well, back from the doctor! Still hanging out at 2cm dilated. Not back in the hospital! He even joked that we may have to end up inducing me later on down the road...haha yeah right. Doubt that. So 32 weeks seems to be in my near future! I am actually wanting them out NOW because I am not the best pregnant person (plus impatient) but I know they do better inside a little longer.

A mother's love~ I hate to give any advice so I'll just say what I may do in your situation. First of all, CONGRATS!!! Twins are amazing and life seems just perfect with a set of screamers around here! :D On to you. . . . I never had this problem but I would opt for the bed rest. The stitch sounds like it has risks and bed rest, although boring ( I did have that) it's doable and passes quickly. Lastly, stay positive! Your mind is super powerful and that's what us other mommies are for! To keep you in smiles! Really, my slogan if you will is "Never entertain the negative!" It's unproductive, sad, useless, and if it is to come you can cope with it then. Stay strong for your babies and know we are all rootin' for ya! Keep us in the know!!!! HUGS!!!!!!!

Sugabeanzs~ Great report!!! I'm glad you are free! Try to make it as long as you can. I know it's uncomfy but even at 32 weeks you are looking at a pretty long NICU stay. There is nothing worse than watching needles being poked into you newborn babies if you can help it. I went to 34 weeks and still had a 16 day stay for each. :( I'm glad it's all well and I hope your girls continue to grow big and strong!

Better run. . .dh thinks dinner is coming!!!!

Hi girls!

I just got back in town from the lake, so I'm trying to catch up.

To all the preggo girls, I'm thinking positive thoughts for ALL of you! Keep resting....and stay positive!

Kholtan---I have two beach lovers over here! They were running on the beach and in the water the whole week--they were beside themselves having so much fun!

Woodcliff--4 months? No way! I have cheap Evenflo chairs, and they've been great. They roll easily, fold easily and clean easily. As for gates, I have this really cool gate that rolls up when not in use. I think it's called Retract-a-gate? I think you can find them on the web. It's really handy.

Wish I could post more. Laundry awaits!

Kim~ Beach lovers!!!! YEAH!!!!!!! Running???? Did you say both were running? Does that mean that Mr. Trump is of the walking and running sorts? Did I miss something? We have been so crazy I don't doubt it but, HURRAY!!!!!!!! Pictures for sure! I really need my Braeden and Ellie Bellie fix! Glad you have happy lake vibes! We are back to the water tomorrow and we have also decided for sure that the 1st Birthday bash is going to be held at the park on the lake so the babies can have their favorite type of fun. It should be fun with the boat and all the older kids getting to try wakeboarding while the little ones float in floaties and play in the grass. We are going with a "beach" theme. We'll see how it turns out! Totally missed ya!

Have a great night everyone!

I am going to PM you with all the details I can but I had a cervical cerclage placed at 14 weeks (im currently 20 weeks preg with twins) and I did a lot of reading and searching on the internet. True, there is some risk with cerclage, but it completly stopped the "funneling" I had which caused me to get the cerclage placed at all. I have had no cervical change in the last 7 weeks and I attribute it all to the cerclage. I believe with twins they consider placing the cerclage if you go below 2.5. I think it is excellent that your medical team did less invasive things to get you back up to 2.6. I was told this is the best time to place the cerclage bc it is not an "emergency" cerclage and the risk of breaking bag of water or any type of infection is much less.
Please feel free to write me with any specific questions you have!
Hang in there!

Kholtan--Oh, yeah, did I forget to mention that Braeden started walking about 2 weeks ago? Silly mommy......I must have forgotten because I've been too busy chasing two kids!   It's been hard to get footage of him, but I'll try this weekend. He walks really funny...too cute!

I love the beach theme for the party! Sounds like a blast! I can't believe your kiddos are going to be one next month! Arrrrgggghhh! How?

Sugarbeanz, congrats on good appointment. It's uncomfortable, especially if you are lying in bed all the time, but hang in there! Everyday you keep your babies in there, they are getting stronger. My kiddos were born at nearly 35 weeks and they stayed in NICU for a week. You are almost there. You must be so excited!

Kim, wow Braeden's walking! Congrats! so, do they run in opposit directions? Glad you had fun at the lake.

Mother's Love, I cannot offer any advice but I've met many women who did the cervix stitching and delivered healthy babies. I understand it's a tough decision, but it has produced many positive outcomes as well. There are lots to worry as a Mom and it is only natural you feel this way.

Kimberley, you are such a busy girl! Annelise has cute dresses! I am a little bummed that the summer here is cool and I cannot put dresses on Alyson as often as I want to. I am looking forward to seeing the photos of the beach birthday bash!

Ok, so my Sean stopped going to the daycare as of TODAY! I was terrified of having all three kids at home, but so far so good. The twins napped well in the mornig, so Sean and I played outside for good two hours. He's napping right now. I am also hooking up with other twin mommies with older toddler sibling, so that should be fun. I just want to book us out to as many outings as possible so that everyone can have something new to do. Noah started to get a lot of eye mucus so I took him to the pedi and we are giving him an antibiotic eye drops. Alyson's feeling better, I think. Sean was just going cazy last night running around in circles at 11pm. He had way too much cake at the daycare as they had a good bye party for him. And then once in bed, he would just scream and would not sleep, so I am thinking he may have an eary infection. I booked an appt this afternoon to check his ears out.

Hope all is well with all of you!!
Hugs,
Kimi

Ladies, thank you, as ever, for your tips and wise words...I'll check out the high chairs...
my son has started 'scooching' himself into a corner of the crib and it freaks him out. I should be annoyed that he does this at odd times of the evening/night, but I'm so proud of his abilities  ...

Quick question: Lately I have just been feeling HORRIBLE. Nauseated a lot of the times, no appetite, it just hurts to move. I know the hurting thing is I am just so big. But feeling sick is not good because I do not want to eat ever. I do force myself to eat little things just so they get food but it is annoying! Did/does anyone else experience this?

Woodcliff, sounds like you and your babies are doing well. We use one of those portable high chairs by Fisher-Price. It reclines and attaches pretty securely to any chair. We like it because we can take it to grandpa's etc and it's less bulky. It also converts to booster seat. For gates, I think those one that you can open with your foot is better than the one that requires your hand. The chances are you are carrying your baby and you need both hands. Glad you had fun at the concert!

Sugabeanz, my memory is getting very fuzzy but I remember my body was just plain maxed out by the time I reached 32 weeks. My feet were swollen, stomach was pushing against my lungs, pounding hearts, being out of breath... the list goes on. I don't remember if I was nauseated, but I was very uncomfortable. Are you drinking enough water? I felt a bit off if I didn't drink enough. Hang in there.

Hi girls- so sorry I have not been posting a whole lot lately!

I actually went to Iowa and just got back in town yesterday. My younger sister gave birth to a lil boy and I wanted to go help her out and more so go see the baby.

baby is so adorable - I cannot wait to have my lil ones so I can hold them. I just wish she wasn't this far away from me but rather close to me so I can see her and the baby more often.

As for me - I'm doing fine and still getting HUGE!! Babies are constantly kicking me now and I can feel them a lot more. I get to go next monday for a regular checkup - ugh, she is gonna check my cervix which stinks cause it hurts.

but I get to find out on Aug 25th to get 100% confirmation on the sex of the babies! so I'm excited and waiting anxiously.

looks like you ladies are all doing well!!

I have a question:

For the past couple of days i have had a sharp shooting pain in my boobs and all these veins are popping up that didn't appeared before?? it looks hideous.

Have you guys experienced anything like this??

Hi Sameera! Congrats on becoming an aunt. Your babies will be so close in age and they will be best of pals.

Oh yes the veins on boobs. I actually grew lots of them all over my body. That's pretty normal according to the doctor. I think I got more when I was carrying the twins than singleton pregnancy. You must be so excited to find out the sex. You can start to imagine what they will be like and make better plans once you find it out. Let us know!

All my kids are napping right now and finally a moment to surf the net and relax a bit. This is when I prepare dinner, too, but I just can't be bothered to day. :P One of those days...
