Sabi,

Good to hear from you too. Any morning sickness?

I am already prepped for the question of twins...if that blessing was bestowed on us. I'm going to say I did get a little extra help with my hormones that increases my chances in conceiving twins. Actually 3 of my friends got pregnant with twins using clomid. I won't be lying because I won't say clomid but it is true that fertility assistance was utilized and I will leave it at that. It's up to you obviously on what to say but I figure at my age my chances of having twins isn't high and I did tell folks I used IVF with my last pregnancy so they will speculate. It's not anyone's business but I'm such an open book that I will probably blab it to folks before they have a chance to ask. Good for you for saying no though. It's personal and I think obnoxious to ask. I would NEVER ask someone that question. Interested in hearing what others have to say about this topic.

Glad you are keeping us posted. Very exciting.

I'm not really sure what I would say if someone asked me ... I think I would either ignore them or simply say, "Excuse Me?" Although to be honest, almost everybody we know is aware we are doing IVF. If there is one thing I realized going through this is that people do not know how to keep a secret. I told two friends at work and the entire staff now knows. Same with our family. For this cycle I only told one of my brothers and he isn't allowed to tell my parents as the last time they may as well of broadcast it on the 5 o'clock news.

We aren't even sure when we want to tell our families. We will definitely wait until at least we see the heartbeat, but even that seems to early. I would like to hear what you are all doing.

Sabi, I also have to tell my principal, but I'm going to wait until we hear the heartbeat. Has your doctor said anything about how long you should be working carrying twins?

I'll check back later

Hi Carolyn,
Congratulations on twins! Wow! Glad to hear all is well!

gigi & poohgirl - welcome back and all the best with your upcoming cycles!!

Hopeful, when is your next scan?

chriss, JDC, JenB, kelly - hope all is well!

sabi - hope you are having a wonderful time away!
I think you have to go with your gut feeling about what to say if someone should ask, did you use IVF - and it sounds like you did just that.
Our doctor encouraged us to have something to say, should we find ourselves in that situation. Here in Germany, no one has outright asked and we haven't offered any information other than to say we were very surprised to find out we were pregnant (which we of course were, after so many disappointments!).
My mother, on the other hand, fully expected people (friends, family acquaintances) to ask if we had had IVF, because she said so many of her friends children have gone through it there (in the US) -- We told her, if they asked, then it was fine to say that we did get pregnant through IVF - if they don't ask, she doesn't have to say anything --
I think I would also be totally taken aback if someone asked me outright if we used IVF and would have probably answered just as you did!! So far, none of my friends in the US have even asked, just friends of my mother -- funny, isn't it? Then again, no one even knew we were trying, and then we announced that we were pregnant -- Actually, we only said we were expanding our house by 2 feet in October, but everyone got the idea...

Take good care, everyone! :D
xx summer

Sorry for jumping in on your thread -- I actually might be joining in a few months. Just depends on how my next cycle goes.

Carolyn- Congrats on your twins. I am so happy 4 U.

JDC - I have been checking the board to see if there is anything new with you. How is you and your sister doing? Good Luck, this has to be your time for a BFP.

Carolyn--would this be identical twins?? Since you only had one at your last scan or was one hidding??? Either way congradulations!!!!!!

Sabi--My plan should the need arise--is to say twins run in my family (we do have a couple of sets). Of course my urge will be to ask them in what position they concieved any of their children since the IVF question is just as rude. But I don't suppose I would have the guts--well maybe with some hormones I might but I doubt it

Wow--gosh--we have a run on twins this is making me so excited!!!

Carolyn - Congratulations on the twins! I had to go back and read through again to see when your last scan was. I have the question as Poohgirl, are they identical?

Summer- my first scan is on Monday. I'm nervous but I keep reminding myself I have really good beta numbers, so all is well in there :D

Poohgirl, Gigi, and JDC - you must be getting excited for your cycles.

Sabi- I'm jealous you are actually taking a vacation on your summer vacation. My DH wouldn't let me go anywhere. Last year at the same time I found out I was pregnant and we went to my Dad's 80th bday party. I tried to "take it easy" but my niece and nephew cling to me when I'm with them and want me to do everything with them. We then found out there was no heartbeat. Sooo, this week as they celebrate my Dad's 81st bday out of state my DH said NO GO! I called today to wish my Dad a happy bday and my nephew got on the phone and kept saying, "when are you going to come visit?" I wanted to cry.

Welcome To-have-fun! As you can see from all the BFP's this is a great place to be!

I just got back from acupuncture ... ahhhh. I slept so soundly I actually was dreaming. I'll check back in later!

hiya

Pooh/hopeful - when had first scan they saw 2 sacs but only one hearbeat - so we assumed that other had stopped growing like lots of initial twin pregnancies do - but no yesterday in all there glory were 2 separate sacs    Am still in shock !!

Hopeful - good luck for monday - how far along will you be then ?? I was 7w3d for mine - so it shows that heartbeat still not always visible then !!

Hows everyone else doing ????

Congratulations Carolyn - another twin mommy!!! Twins are a lot of fun!!! And honestly, not as hard as I thought they were going to be. I love that your little fighter hung in.

It is interested to see the changes in the two babies - actually it goes back before that. Their personalities mirror the way they were in the womb - my fierce kicker inside is my VERY active little guy, while my calm miracle inside is my mellow girl who continues to have hiccups as often as she did while inside. It is fun!

As for the IVF question... I don't get a ton of people me directly, but they ask 'if twins run in your family' which I think is there indirect way of asking. I just say 'no' and change the subject. A few people have been direct but they are the exception.

Hopeful, hope you are feeling okay! Are you excited for Monday? I'll be excited to hear how it goes.

Sabi, enjoy your vacation and the wedding. I think we told most people at around 10 weeks. Once we saw the heartbeats we were pretty confidant that it would work.

Summerbaby, not long now. It is nice that the summer hasn't been too hot for you! I was due on Oct 15th (but gave birth on Sept 18) so I had similar timing last summer. It wasn't too hot then either which was nice. Although i still had the ankles feet (yuck).

Gigi and Poohgirl, hope you are both doing well!!!

We are off to Ottawa for a weekend away today and I can't wait! A hotel with the pool that the twins are going to love!

Thinking of you guys!

Hey Girls,

We just got back in last night. I've been reading the thread but with travelling it makes it more difficult to respond. The 3 embies they were watching and would have frozen didn't make it. So out of 8 DE only the 2 they put back made it. I broke down and took a hpt this am 7p3dt, it was neg but I also know it is very early. I have a lot of symptoms, but of course it could be all the meds. I was surprised to step on the scale and see I lost 2 lbs while on vacation. My clothes don't fit right with all the bloat.

Glad to hear you are all doing well and hope to continue the lucky streak!

Welcome back Steph! I think 7dp3dt is to early to do an HPT. In fact, I think Ghost said it is early even for a 5dt. The hardest part of the 2ww is having symptoms and not knowing if they are due to the meds or being pregnant. Ugh!!! When do you go in for your beta?

Kelly enjoy your vacation with the twins!

Carolyn - Has it sunk in that you are having twins? I'll be 5 weeks and 3 days. My nurse said they are just checking to see how many are in there and if the yolk and sac are there. I'm nervous as I'm still having spotting, but only when I have a bowel movement, sorry for the TMI. I'm trying to think of my high betas and keep a PMA

My DH had some drama at work today so I've got to get going ... I'll check back in later!

Well Ladies, at 8dp3dt two lines showed up on the hpt+++. I am super excited and just woke DH up at 4:00am to tell him. I now need to email OB and have her order my first beta & p4 test. I am with Kaiser and they offer no infertility treatments, so until I can call and confirm a + hpt it is hard to get them to order anything. I have been gets boughts of naseau, bb's are sore at times and the meds seem to make me have constipation or loose bowels- Go Figure! My sense of smell is in overdrive; In Prague with all the public transportation and people so close, I about gagged with them smelling so heavily of BO.

Hopeful, good luck on Monday's U/S; you are lucky they have you coming in so early to see what is in there, most of us go crazy waiting until 7 wks. I am glad the spotting doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. How much progesterone are you on? Doc told me to take 5 Utrogestan's 2-1-2, 3 Estrodials, and 2.5mg of prednisone daily until 7wks. I am a little worried since I had low p4 levels last cycle.

Carolyn, congrats on the twins! Twins seem to run abundenth on this thread. How are you feeling?

Kelly, you are going to be the wise Mom of advise with twins that everyone turns to with questions. Have fun on your vacation. You seem so happy with them and to take parenting them in stride, I hope if I am blessed with twins that I can sound as sane as you!

Sabi, Have fun on your vacation and hopefully you are feeling well. My DH & I can honestly say twins run in our family, and only closer family members and friends know that we did IVF before, we didn't tell anyone this cycle, so I am sure they will suspect.

tohavefun, Welcome, this is a great group of ladies and a fun thread to join. I am a newbie as well and they have been great.

Hope you all have a fun weekend. We pick up my DD today from summer camp. I am excited to see her, she has been there for 2 weeks.

Congratulations, Steph!!! I think the nausea is from the meds, as I was told the nausea from the actual pregnancy usually doesn't kick in until the end of the 5th week ... although I'm not sure how much truth there is to this??? Maybe someone else can confirm/deny. Either way, symptoms with a +HPT are AWESOME! Congrats!

Steph, I am on on 2cc's of PIO and 5 estrogen patches. I've emailed my nurse every couple of days to let her know about the spotting and every time she reminds me it is common to bleed during the first trimester. Thankfully it is not very much, but I still hate it!!! My clinic usually only does one beta (I ended up paying extra for the 2nd one this past week) and then they do an early u/s.

I'll check back in later ... hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
