I just thought I'd offer some reassurance. I had spotting about 5 days before my test date and I got a BFP - so I'm sure it's implantation bleeding for you. I was bloated and uncomfortable as well and about 2 days before test date I started to feel normal and fit back into my clothes.
Here in Canada it seems they don't do blood tests to check your HCG levels regularly. I had my test on Thursday and my level was 584 and I won't have my next test until this Thursday....hoping the levels have risen substantially!! Breast tenderness has almost disappeared so of course my anxiety level is sort of rising......
got my hcg results today. it's great! 3235 17 days post transfer. what a relief!! i can really believe it now - i am pregnant!!! ultrasound on february 21.
i also have ohss, which is hard to manage and maintain my busy life. drinking sports drinks all day. so i guess ohss is a good sign!
good luck this week!

Welcome Julie - yes, the 2ww is excrutiating. I'm really struggling with it this time round, I feel like I'm going batty!

Julie: Good luck and God bless you with your dream.
Saraid: Good luck for the 8th, keep positive!
Chellejaya: Wow! 25 eggs!! As my doctor would say:a pregancy in that for sure ( said to me and i had only 9 frosties!)
Gregmbarry: Your numbers will rise for sure!
China:After this IVF, you know and the doctors know what you are like,a good performer with eggs, so maybe you can start your protocol and just visit your clinic for the last bits if you can find a gynoe to do the test to see if you are downregulated and the womb is thin to start the injections.
I went to Australia to remove my tubes and started some medication from the Uk so when I got there I just did the treatment and got back. (It was cheaper to go there and see one of the top infertlity doc in the world, see my friends, have a mini holiday than pay privately in the UK).
In fact, I am paying £5000 for this cycle (drugs will cost more for our age+ blasto), and OZ could be a option for you to fly and have treatment as it is less expensive and easier to get to from China. (Have a look at Sydney IVF website) or even Singapore, a great place and easy to deal with. I certainly would consider OZ if I was in China, but then I love Sydney and know the best doctor there. 2nd IVF becomes easier and harder at the same time, but you feel more in touch with the procedure. Take the advantage to do acupunture and mssage in China to help you cope, it certainly has helped me with feeling better (no headaches etc but I took no herbal medicine). Hope you find the solution but no employer needs to know the IvF thing, could be anything and you have doctors orders!Good luck and it will happen!!
Good luck everyone!

Last year I turned down the promotional opportunity that I had been working towards for the last 6 years. I would have been the highest positioned female ever in our male dominated company of 10,000 employees doing a job that I love....I worked so hard to get the chance and in the same month of the promotion offer I found out I couldn't conceive naturally. It was a really tough decision, but I knew I would not be able to do IVF and take the promotion which meant moving to another foreign country. I believe I have already committed career suicide, so how much more do I have to give up???
I dont regret making the decision, but I sometimes feel sorry for myself to be in this position. DP and I have always had a bit of an alternative relationship in that I am the career one and his jobs have fitted around mine, so he would take most daily responsibility for the childcare, and I would take most of the financial responsibility
IVF in China, results are not very encouraging. To do it in HK or Singapore brings similar problems as doing it in the UK, the only benefit is the flight time.
I may have the opportunity to work back in the UK office doing the same thing I was doing 4 years ago...doesn't really fill me with much enthusiasm, but could give us the time we need to continue with IVF.
On a positive note, I have 7 fertilzed embryo's, so I'm hoping I can persuade the company to give me another 3 or 4 weeks off and have another try in May.
Thanks for listening to me winge, I hope I have a more PMA next time I'm on the board

Julie - just wanted to add my welcome and wish you godd luck for your test.
How did you find out in the end it was OHSS? The reason I ask is that I have been SO uncomfortable and bloated - even up to my ribs - and each time I speak to the clinic they say it is just the progesterone. I'm not convinced it isn't OHSS, but I don't know how to tell for sure as they don't do any more tests. What made it apparant for you? Mine also got worse since EC.

1st IVF Jan 06 - Test date 15 Feb 06!
My dr sent me for blood work to determine that I had OHSS on Friday the 3rd. I believe they did a CBC (cell blood count?) and a protein something or other test. My hematocrit level was 43% and that was the key factor in the diagnosis. I had to stay at the hospital where the blood work is done for them to give me an 1 liter of fluids (an IV). For the next few days, I was pretty intense on drinking V8 juice and chicken broth, per the dr's orders. Luckily I like both of those. They retested me yesterday and I was down to 37% which is a more normal number so they said to just keep going with the juice and broth and let them know if I started to feel worse.
The biggest symptom I had was being extremely uncomfortable from the bloating, especially around my rib cage. Most of the pain was higher up than my belly button. I also had a heck of a time breathing when I would walk up a flight of stairs and it was difficult to get out of bed, get off the couch, etc. When it got to the point that my bra was way to tight and my fat pants didn't fit, I knew something was out of whack.
They didn't discuss it much with me before I started experiencing symptoms because it only happens to 10-20% of people. I would urge your doctor to do the blood test to give you peace of mind.
Julie - thanks for this information. I can see you have had a difficult time of it definitely.
I have the discomfort up to the rib cage as well, so I shall definitely keep an eye on this.
Can you tell me about the V8 juice - I read before that someone recommended it because of the sodium - I drank loads (love it too!) - and then started to worry that this was a bad idea. Isn't sodium bad for you? Why did the doctor recommend it?
Many thanks
Angela

The V8 juice is high in sodium, which in the case of OHSS is actually helpful to relieve the symptoms. Under normal circumstances, that much salt would not be good. But, with the OHSS, you have an electrolyte imbalance (called hyponatremia) which is caused when you have too much water in your system and not enough electrolytes (like salt). Sometimes athletes experience hyponatremia because they drink too much water and not enough sports drink. It is the opposite of being dehydrated.
If you really have OHSS, then the V8 juice will help your body to come back to a normal state. It helps to balance out your electrolytes.
The one symptom I forgot to mention was that I was drinking a lot of water, feeling thirsty, but not needing to use the restroom very often.
I'm by no means a doctor, so hopefully you can talk to yours about your symptoms and get a correct diagnosis, and treatment if necessary.
Again, good luck with your 2ww! ... but don't wait too long if you think you might be experiencing OHSS.
are you sure about this? i have ohss right now, and my doctor was very clear that i am to steer clear of foods with high sodium - kept repeating that over and over, as sodium causes you to retain even more water. they said to drink sports type drinks throughout the day and to eat foods that were high in protein, including protein bars.

I'm only sure on what my doctor told me and my own "opinion" from having a biology/sports medicine background. Drinking sports drink is similar to drinking liquids high in sodium. In both cases, you are replacing electrolytes. (Sodium and potassium are electrolytes).
If your body is low on electrolytes, it will keep "flooding" itself with more water. Hence the bloating. It needs those electrolytes to balance itself. If a "normal" person were to drink a high concentration of sodium, then your body would compensate by retaining some water to lower the sodium concentration.
I have read that electorlyte supplemented drinks, like Gatorade, are preferable, but I really think it depends on the severity. In any event, lets all trust that our doctors are each treating our individual symptoms. Perhaps my OHSS is more severe and needed a more aggressive approach. In any event, your doctor will know better than I will how to treat this, so please listen to her/him. I'm only trying to share what I'm going through and not trying to offer medical advice.
