Mia- forgive my ignorance but what is Lupron for? Is it like Follistim? I guess I am confused too. He said most likely my first ultra sound would be on my period on the 7th, Monday. But they never said anything about not continuing forward if I don't get my period. You were stimming on Monday and ER about 19th and Et on 24th because of your 5th day transfer? My last period was on early December and I have been on the bcp for two months now... I told the nurse that AF probably takes 2-3 days to start, she said no problem.

10 weeks is very aggressive!!!! :( seems like too long

I am not sure what the aspirin is for but he tells me to take it with the exception of around ER.

Hi everyone!
I haven't written in a while, but I though I'd check in with everyone.
I had my consult today to learn how to do shots. It was scary, but I think I can do it. I am sure all the information will fly out of my head once i get the meds but my husband seemed to understand what needle goes with what medicine, etc.

Here's a helpful website with a great tutorial on how to give yourself meds, mix them, etc. http://www.freedommedteach.com/player/Videos.aspx
This was on my doctor's website (Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine)

Anyway -
I start my Lupron shot a dexamethasone pill on 1/9. I am having trouble finding a pharmacy that is in the BlueCrossBlueShield network because my insurance says they'll cover it. Although they haven't been covering very much :(
I did order Lupron from FreedomPharmacy - I'll pay for this out of pocket because I am runnign out of time to get the meds in time. They're suposed to overnight them and they'lll be here tomorrow. I was happy with Freedom - wish I could stay with them to order the rest of the meds, but i'll need to find another pharmacy.

Stupid question: What's ER and ET? is it transfer and retrieval?? My retrieval should be around 1/30 and my transfer 2/2....the calendar posted earlier showed ET and ER a few days after i start my shots...

Anyone else taking the dexamethasone with the Lupron? It's a pill that's supposed to prevent excess male hormone? It's supposed to make you dizzy and they said to take it at night. How did you guys feel after it?

We decided to transfer 1 embryo - my husband and I are both in our mid-20s so there's a good chance of the single embryo working...but we'll make the final decision with the embryologist before the transfer.

About the progesterone shot...my doc gave the option of the once a day oil shot or the 3/day vaginal suppositories. I am definitely leaning towards the suppositories at this point because the shot scares me - the needle in the meds class today was a big one!! I hear this shot hurts also. Although 3/day vaginally is a hassle and you have to lie down 30mins after each one. I could do it morning and night, but where would I lie down during the day at work??
And the doc said this is someone I could be taking upto 10weeks through the pregnancy...

Katie: How are the shots coming along? Do they hurt? Are you doing them yourself or is your husband doing them? Any side-effects yet (mood swings or anything?)

21 bat: I had bit of a breakdown last night. I was staring at this huge box of meds and didnt know where to begin. I start shots tomorow and I was freakin out that it will be a weekend and what if I do something wrong. I am going to take a look at the websites that you put up. I did have my lupron shot at the doc's office and it wasnt bad at all. It will be fine its just a matter of not getting overwelmed and do one thing at a time.

Thanks Katie - I got my Lupron sent to me today and I am starting my first Lupron shot (and dexamethasone) on Wednesday. Why did you get your Lupron shot at the doctor's? Was it just the first one? They didn't offer me this.

I have a question...I was reading some posts and people are saying that they're waiting for AF after taking the BC pills to start the stim meds. My nurse said that I may or may not get any bleeding after I finish taking the BC pills, but I start the stim meds (Gonal-F and Menopur) abot 5days after. Is this normal, or did your doc tell you to wait for AF before starting the stim meds.
I am so confused! My BCPills and the Lupron shots will overlap for about a week. Is this how you're doing it too?

Katie: Another question for you :)

I see that you're about my age - did your nurse tell you anything about your # of eggs. Mine said that I have abot 30 eggs, which I guess is a lot but normal because i'm so young. She said it's great in one way, but there's a chance of overstimulation and I could get really sick (which i think is why they put me on the BCPills). Did your nurse/doc tell you any of this?

Well my friends, I am THRILLED to report that AF has finally arrived! :D  :D  ! Almost 2 weeks late, but I'll take it. So, by my calculation (and looking at my old calendar), I'll start BCP on Tuesday, lupron start on 1/28 and possible ER 2/18. Later than I had wanted, but I think I can work this into my work travel schedule.

Have a great weekend everyone! The weather here is terrible (well, terrible for us...lots of rain), so I'm making some comfort food for dinner (beef brisket) and sharing a nice bottle of wine with DH tonight to celebrate the arrival of AF. Cheers!

21bat: You can try my specialized pharmacy. They take my insurance....they may take yours. Yours is popular in this area, anyhow. Barrons 1-800-362-7939. They have never charged me for overnight shipping either. Good Luck.

Lupron is to suppress ovulation from spontaneously occurring. Follistim to make extra eggs. I have noticed that there are many many protocols that everyone is on. I was told with my protocol that I will probably not even get a period and that I will start my Lupron 3 days after the last BCP no matter what and then follistim and lupron the next day for around a week. I am taking 2 shots of each every day till trigger. That is 4 shots a day!!! So my protocol is way different than most. There is not one better than another....it is just different is all. I will only be on bcp 18 days total too. So my whole prep from bcp to transfer is only around 33 days total.

TammyS - you are right, I guess we just keep trying to match things up when every RE has a different approach. He also said AF or not we start on the 7th.

Cornybaby- YEAY!!!!!!!! So glad you are staying with us!!! the weeather here sucked yesterday too but we are one of the fews houses with power!

21 bat - ER is egg retrieval, ET is embryo transfer. The calendar I posted was from an old post of yours and things change every day for us so I was just trying to guesstimate everyone's dates based on mine, which of course I will be off. But as we get closer just give me the right dates and I will repost and include any newcomers. With so many girls it is hard to keep track of everyone and what is going on with each one so I thought the calendar would help everyone keep track without having to go back to old posts. I got the idea from Esperanza in the Dec board.

21Bat----I started my BC the 4th dac of my december period. Then 18 days after that I had my lupron shot-- I am not sure why I did lupron in the office they didnt give me the option. It was a one time shot to keep me from ovulating and thats all they said. I hear people that take lupron more then once I'm not sure what the difference is. Then my Jan period arrived yesterday they said it would come 5-10 days after my lupron shot. They did say the shot may affect my period. (it maylighten it but im normally not super heavy to begin with) Now i start my shots tomorow day 3 of my period. I am doing follistim and repromex for the 10 days and then afterwords the progesterone of course. I did have my baseline BW and US he said lots of eggs but didnt say a number. I go back wednesday I will ask about how many. They didnt mention the overstimulation but I will ask next week. Hope this helps!!! everyones a bit different but its good to compare notes.
